I am a friend or relative of a current/past resident

My mother is at The Heritage at Lowman. They're overly expensive. Skilled nursing usually runs about $7000 for a good place, but they're charging me $10,000 a month. I understand she's in hospice, but her water cup is on her dresser and she can't get out of bed. This has happened about four times now and I understand it's not a perfect system and everybody has their issues. My mom became very sick under their care and they called 911 and sent her to the hospital. They didn't notify me so the emergency room treated her and admitted her to the floor. I'm her power of attorney. I make all her medical decisions for her because she has dementia. She became unresponsive and the hospital called me because they didn't think that she was going to make it much longer. That's the only reason I found out she was even in the hospital. Because I wasn't notified when she was transported, they gave her high-dose antibiotics in the ER to treat the pneumonia. She was a DNR, but she also didn't want extra measures like antibiotics. She just wanted to be made comfortable and that was it, but because I couldn't advocate for her, by law, they have to do what's best for the patient. The Heritage said, "We called your cellphone." My cellphone works fine and I have a call log. Nobody called. Nobody left me a message. I didn't appreciate being lied to either. They're a big facility and a lot of people recommend it. There are just issues that need to be addressed.

We liked the Heritage at Lowman very much. They were having a new building that should be available in January, and we are mulling that one over. They had a pool, and they showed a schedule of events that my mother-in-law was happy with. She's interested in the apartment that was going to be available in January.

Mom was at the Heritage at Lowman for rehab. The occupational therapy and physical therapy was great, but I didn't like that they held off giving PT for four or five days and not getting her out of bed. I also didn't see the staff that much when I went to visit. Seemed like they were short staffed. Upkeep was good though.

Do NOT put your loved one here. Apparently this place has severely declined in the last few years. There is NO plan for care, no communications with family, NO ONE will return calls. Medicine changes are made with no notification to family. Mom sat in soiled briefs for hours. Need more help. Staff all overworked. And supposed to be. Christian non-for-profit. Where is all that money going? Paying high priced administrators and building new fancy independent living. Nursing home is terrible.

The Heritage at Lowman is structured differently than my mother's current community, but it's very nice. I only met one staff member when I was there. The apartments I was looking at were under construction.

The one I liked the most was The Heritage at Lowman. The community was excellent. The staff member who assisted me was outstanding. She might have been the best. They have independent living, which was more like individual houses or duplexes, and assisted living, which was more like apartment living. They have a very nice swimming pool and workout center that can be used by everyone. In their workout center, they had people in there who were trained assistants to assist the people on different machines. Their machines seemed to be very friendly for those of us that are older. The indoor swimming pool was outstanding, too. They were not serving food while we were there, but they did have coffee out. The dining area looked very good. I was very impressed with it.

Heritage was the worst place I visited. The rooms were dark, small, and there weren't any caregivers on the floor when we visited. It was two-stories, and they wanted to put my mom upstairs, but there was no way she would have been able to get downstairs.

I found Heritage at Lowman for my husband. He is going to the Bethany (building), which is for memory impaired. Regarding the staff, I feel that they're going to be very good. I talked with a gentleman whose wife has been there for two years, and he has been very pleased with their care. The staff was very friendly and very willing to answer any questions I had. I had been there three times, and each time they had been very helpful. I felt like they were very concerned about their residents. I've looked at their menus, and it looked good. Heritage at Lowman is quite a large campus. It has skilled care, independent living, a wellness center, and a rehab center. It looked like they have quite a variety of activities. The day I was there, they were doing bingo, they had people helping the residents, and they seemed to be enjoying themselves. I saw the room that my husband will be going into. It is very nice. It has a nice double window, so it is very bright. I think it is spacious enough.

Lowman Home is a retirement facility run by the Lutheran church. They have a good reputation. I had an uncle that was there. It’s well thought of. They have cottages or houses that are for independent-living as well as apartments. They have the full facility with long term, assisted living, and independent. I saw the room my uncle was in and it was very nice. They have a big campus. It’s a lot of green space.

We visited the Lowman home, but you need to buy a unit and that was really expensive. You could go from independent living to assisted living to nursing care. They do all the up-keep on there. They were not close together, and if you live in one of the homes like that instead of the main building, you could be mobile. We liked the person that we met and she showed us around. We looked at the outbound homes and we did tour a little bit of the facility. They have a swimming pool and activity rooms. The homes were older, but they were adequate -- two bedrooms, two baths and a patio; they were nice. There were people doing exercises in the swimming pool, guest, and card rooms. I don’t remember a lot about it because we didn’t like it; we didn’t feel that the homes were in a community because it was very spread out. The main building with assisted living was more secured.

I am experienced most all the levels of services they offer. My mom has been a resident there for many years and it is the best decision we have ever made. The Adminiatration is very kind and visable and always available. The staff can't do enough for you

While I was a caregiver for my mother-in-law, her declining heath required a short-term stay at the Lowman Home. As a part of the family, I expected the highest quality treatment of her by the staff. Upon arrival, I was impressed by the landscape, which included walking areas, a pond, and comfortable benches. The interior of the facility was also quite inviting and had a home-style feel. Not only does the facility offer traditional caretaking, but they also offer plenty of recreational activities designed to improve physical and mental well-being. The patient rooms were nice as well, each with a large window for viewing the landscape. In addition, the staff was very attentive and friendly. Upon each visit, there was always a nurse or other staff member within visible distance. In summary, I was impressed with the facility as well as the care received. I would recommend the Lowman Home for both long-term and short-term stays.

About 10 years ago I had to put my father into an assisted living center. He quickly went from assisted living to a nursing home and passed away quickly. So, when a friend asked me to stop in and see her elderly mother when she moved into an assisted living facility, I was reluctant, but went anyway. Much to my suprise I saw men and women who were pretty active. When I arrived they were all doing the hokey pokey! This wasn't anything like what went on where my father was years ago. Before I knew what happened, I was doing the hokey pokey too. After asking many questions I found out that they employ somebody to have fun activities for the residents. They go to the grocery store, and the mall, and to doctor appointments. It's all very well orchastrated. I was VERY impressed.
