The thing that I noticed first off at Brookdale Newberg was how beautiful the dining room was. I imagine that the residents feel like they're eating in a five-star restaurant. There's white tablecloths and there was a two story set of windows with a beautiful view of the courtyard. It was just very elegant. They had ice cream socials, games, and a jukebox. There was a little 50s diner upstairs, and one of the residents, an elderly gentleman, was the disc jockey, and he was up there getting ready for the afternoon's entertainment. So, that was fun to see. It's a beautiful facility.

I toured Brookdale Newberg. It's small. They showed us a couple of the activity rooms. They showed us a one-bedroom and a studio, but I thought they were too small. It's close to shopping and close to the hospital, so those are two good things.

We toured Brookdale Newberg. It's very good. They have a very friendly staff. Everything is very clean. The outdoors, the indoors and the dining room, everything is nice. The staff were very helpful. We didn't eat there, but the dining room was very nice. The waitresses and servers were smiling all the time and looked very friendly. They had bingo and an ice cream parlor. Everybody looked really happy.

Brookdale Newberg was a little bit older facility. Everybody was nice, and the room seemed to be clean. It was more expensive than the other place across the street (which was a little newer as well). We saw lots of seniors enjoying their lunch. The staff was very nice. The gal showing us around was new to the business, but it was OK. The room had a small kitchen, a small living area, a bedroom and a bathroom. Everything was tiny, but adequate. Their dining area wasn't very big. We would not have chosen that place because of the age of the building. It just seemed more organized across the street.

Brookdale Newberg looked great and very welcoming. The rooms looked great. We found a room that we thought would work well for my mother-in-law. It was a studio, and it was very adequate. The people that lived there seemed happy. I didn't find anything I didn't like about it. They had a lot of common space and a place where people would get together.

I toured Brookdale Newberg, I was not impressed with it. It wasn't clean, there were cigarette butts all around the front door. I know that a lot of those facilities are complaining that they don't have enough employees and that people don't show up. I get that one person can't take care of everything. But considering how much it costs to stay there, it's not very impressive that right when you're going in, there's, in my opinion, garbage all around the front door. The staff was wonderful. Everybody was wearing masks. I used their bathroom, there was brown something on the toilet seat, and on where the toilet paper holder was. And when you're in a bathroom and you see brown, you think of something that's not very clean. The garbage can was full and there were about 30 fruit flies in there, and fruit flies don't appear in five minutes. And when that's a public bathroom, somebody should take a little more notice and a little more care. But they said, "We had four people that didn't show up today." They showed me their little houses that you can rent and that would be an independent living, and that place had several flies. They hadn't had a chance to clean it yet, there was a very bad smell in there and they probably just shouldn't have shown it to me.

I went to Brookdale Newberg. The staffing was a little less with it, it seemed like they were kind of changing or updating the facility and the staffing. When I went in, there always seemed to be a little bit of confusion as to where the sales manager was and when they were touring. They were nice, they were friendly, but they just didn't seem to have everything as well coordinated as the other place. It's right over there by the hospital. It was a good location, right around the corner from Big Fred Meyer Shopping Center, so that was one of the appeals that it had for me. The one disadvantage that the Brookdale in Newburgh had was, the independent living apartments were in cottages that were separated from the main facility, and I didn't want that for my brother. We had some pizza there. They were keeping the dining facility separate from the visitors due to the COVID. They did offer some pizza slices that we could have, and that was fine. The food was okay.

Brookdale Newberg wasn't as friendly as the other place I saw. The apartments looked good; some were very small, and the others were bigger. They had an exercise class around the dining table, they had a couple exercise bikes in the hall, and a billiard table. The staff wasn't friendly, but the dining area looked good. The activities didn't look that interesting to me. Maybe it's what the residents wanted, but it's not for me.

My husband and I chose Brookdale Newberg because it's close to our son and family and because of convenience of the three meals and snacks. We wanted the 2-bedroom cottage, but there was a waiting list. We're both moving into a 1-bedroom, which is going to be a challenge. The staff was very friendly and personal. The dining room was adequate and pleasant.

We toured Brookdale Newberg, it's good. The place was clean and neat, the colors were very nice and it's warmly decorated. Everyone seems to be pleased and not cranky. The staff was fine, they were very hospitable. I have had the experience of having some of their food, it was okay, but it was kind of high in sodium for an elderly.

Brookdale Newberg is a nice community and the people are nice as well. My father seems to like the food, although not all of it. They let me take him out to eat sometimes. They have an ice cream bar, bingo, and so on. I also really like the layout of the place.

My mom went to Brookdale Newberg. It was closer. It was fine in every way. My mom stayed there for 2 months. The residents were busy. She did not take part in much, but they had activities going on.

I like Brookdale Newberg because I have an independent cottage that I love. They have the usual bingo, bus trips, and day trips to the casino, to the doctor, Fred Meyer, and Walmart. They have card games, exercises, and swimming. They serve three meals a day and snacks are included in our rent. In my cottage, I have a washer and dryer, and we have housekeeping once a week. The only thing I pay in-house is my phone and Wi-Fi. Garbage pick-up and lawn care are included in my rent. I don't need a bunch of help, but the staff is very friendly and nice. I am very comfortable here, and my cottage is very homey.

Brookdale Newberg’s price is reasonable. It’s a cottage and it has a garage. They gave us three meals a day, seven days a week and the food is mediocre. A lot of times service is a lot longer than it should be. It takes an hour to get a meal. Very little activities; bingo, jewelry making. They need to have a new bathroom that’s handicapped acceptable. They need to have an automatic slide door so that we can get in to the building. They need to have two meals a day instead of three. Live here for almost three years.

We moved to Brookdale Newberg last June. The services that they have here are pretty good. Sometimes the food is not too great, but that is typical. They have all kinds of activities here like bingo, card games, pool, walks, and bus trips. The room is very nice and spacious for us two. They have a big courtyard where you could spend all your times in the summer. They have a medtech over here that manages all of my wife's medicine since she has type 1 diabetes.

Generally, Emeritus looked like a very beautiful site. I found nothing outwardly wrong with it at all. It looked very nice, clean, well taken care of. The rooms seemed nice, and the staff was very friendly.

My in-laws will be moving into Emeritus at Chehalem next week. We chose it because it is just right across the street, so it is convenient for us, and they like it. We like the aspect of the assisted living, where they will have good quality care. The staff is good. The room is small, and it could use more closet space.
