New Study Highlights Hawaii, Montana, and Vermont Among Top 10 Best Places for Seniors to Live During the Pandemic

Charlotte, NC; May 27, 2020: Caring.com, a highly-regarded senior care referral service and the nation’s leading site for senior care reviews, has published a new research study on the safest states for seniors during COVID-19. All 50 states were evaluated based on how well they implemented aggressive social distancing measures as well as their prevention and preparedness procedures. States that ranked among the top 10 safest places for seniors to live include Hawaii at number one followed by Montana, Vermont, Maine, and California.

The study highlights lower mortality and infection rates as well as mobility trends as key factors for states that scored the highest. Researchers at Caring.com used a total of 11 metrics across two categories to determine places with the most successful safety measures. Examples of metrics used to examine social distancing practices include workplace, retail and recreational travel, as well as grocery or pharmacy trips. The preventative and preparedness category assessed hospitals per capita, death and infection rates, and more.

According to the Centers for Disease Control (CDC), adults age 65 years and older are at a higher risk for severe illness due to COVID-19 infection. Caring.com developed this study to help educate our senior population and their loved ones about safety measures in various states.
