How do I find a psychiatrist in the Medicare pages?

A fellow caregiver asked...

I could not find psychiatrists listed on the medicare pages. Are they all under MD and how do I tell them apart???

Expert Answer

Barbara Steinberg is the CEO and founder of BLS Eldercare Financial Solutions, which specializes in helping families pay for long-term care for their loved ones. A registered financial gerontologist, she speaks regularly on the topic of paying for long-term care and is a financial expert for Caring.com.

To find a psychiatrist on the Medicare site, go to http://www.medicare.gov/find-a-doctor/(X(1)S(vrwfryzkpm5rbhn4cfhl3g55))/provider-search.aspx

You can put in your zip code and select psychiatrist. You will get a listing that you can narrow down by factors like distance or gender. You should interview several doctors. It is important that you feel that they understand your needs and that you agree with the treatment plan. I can tell you from personal experience, the right doctor makes all the difference in the world.
