Carolyn has passed away. Member since April 14, 2010I am CSB KeAla Waiola BSN RN, PSU 76. Speciality, rehabilitation, geriatics, long term care, RN nurse supervisor. The elder abuse article is excellent. November 2011, my DON, put all my Residents at risk, by laying me off, for no other reason than needing to cut the nursing budget. Anyone who has information on a RN Supervisor, evening shift positions in a 50 mile radius of York PA. Contact me at waiola@comcast.net. The worse case of elder abuse I ever encountered, was a mentally challenged, gentleman with stage 4 pressure sores. (the tissue was destroyed through muscle and bone.) In a long term care facility, we take any sign of elder abuse very seriously. Actual abuse of a Resident, does not occur very often. Why?, potential employees are screened, and as a RN with 30+ years of geriatic nursing experience, there is not very much I miss. It never is pleasant to have to put a loved one in a nursing home. Please remember 99% of the staff are there becasue we love our Residents, and yes we grieve when they die.
