Caring for my mom Member since May 16, 2010We are a Christian homeschool family who have been caring for my sweet 84-year-old Lewy Body Dementia diabetic Christian mom in our home since September of 2006. Lewy-Body Dementia is a combination of Alzheimer's and Parkinson's. We have help; we have the Lord! My dad has been married to my mom for 61 years and moved in with us in September of 2009. He brought my Down Syndrome 53-year-old Christian brother who also lives with us. They are both healthy. My Christian husband and two sons, ages 20 and 17, also help with my mom. Having a big family is fun! We really want to glorify the Lord in how we care for my mom. We are entering the hospice phase where she is bedridden and can't move. The Lord helped us learn about alternating air pressure pads, Boost nutritional drinks, and Glucerna for diabetics. Friends have loaned/given us all kinds of helpful things like an inflatable hair-washing swimming pool, hosopital gowns, a bedside commode, wheelchair, etc. Our newest question is how to prevent bedsores by padding certain body parts with little booties, etc. We also need general advice on how to care for her as her life ebbs away. Thanks for caring!
