Caring for my mom Member since October 04, 2010Mom will be 92 this month, and has been in a nursing home since August 2012. She's no longer able to take advantage of what the dementia unit offers, nor does she need it. So is in a regular resident room.
Thankfully, she's beyond all the agitation, paranoia, and anger issues. She can still get a tad feisty to the aids, but they don't mind, because she also can be sweet and thankful. She regained the weight lost, plus five and looks very good. She's sadly totally dependant now, even for eating. She no longer calls our names, but is comfortable with us.
My husband and I still try to see her almost everyday, usually at a mealtime. We like to be part of that routine, and hold her hand. I love her so much, and miss the "old" mom for sure, but so glad she seems to be at peace now.
