Caring for my dad Member since April 22, 2009Widow of a wonderful man that had a severe Rt Medial Cerebral Artery stroke with the complication of being ambidextrous, that was medically retired from a life of being a Peace Officer (combined over 45 years). He survived 3 years after having the stroke.
I work full-time, and now care for my Father (92) who has dementia and is in denial. Had moved Mom/Dad to Independent Living in March 2009, in May of 2011 moved them into Assisted Living. Mom passed away in Jan 2012, now just caring for Dad, who is quite lonely after being married to Mom for 2 months shy of 62 years. He is slowly fading away - what the medical community calls failure to thrive, although you won't see it on any paperwork.
For Dad, I am the Medical Advocate, Care Manager, and co-Trustee of his Estate, as is my Sister.
For stroke.org, I will be the September 2013 Face of Stroke Ambassador. Look for my interview in the September 2013 edition of Stroke Smart available on their website.
