I have been in the medical field for most of my working history. I worked mostly in the nursing homes. I think that caring.com is an excellent source for the elderly. I don't believe in Nursing Homes. To be taken out of your home into an unfamiliar environment is mind debilitating. The saddest part of working in a nursing home are those that are put in a facility and forgotten. For years I volunteered and visited at the local nursing homes for those that had no visitors. I went to the low-income housing projects for the elderly doing errands and just being company for them. I done a lot of health. I finish my work very quickly. I think the most important part of the job was just being there to listen, and gain wisdom from the patients....Try everything that you can to make your love ones living environment be joyous. Most of all don't put them in a nursing home and forget about them. Meditate on 1Timothy 5:8

Homeshare International is a UK based charity which promotes the concept of homesharing around the world. We have a Facebook page, and a website www.homeshare.org and we run the biennial World Homeshare Congress - the next will be held on 4/5 July 2013 in Oxford, England. So I hope that we are doing our bit to encourage the spread of homesharing for all who want and need the companionship and support a homeshare match can provide

I am interested in sharing my home with an senior female who needs a place to live rather than a senior care facility. How do I go about doing this in Jacksonville, Florida. My husband and I live alone and have a two bedroom very nice apartment and desire the additional companionship. I am a 65 year ol retired legal secretary and my husband is an almost 81 gentleman who loves to chat talk about things and is a very good person. We have been married 30 years and have two children in Jacksonville and a grandaughter and a daughter with a baby on the way. My children are both college graduates and were raised in a loving safe home. I would like to offer our loving home to another adult. Thank you. Mary Meyer

I think that homeshare is a great idea that must be expanded around the world!

Interesting idea. There are those seniors who value their independence and are accustomed to having things their own way; however, there are just as many who would love to share space.

Thank you for this article! I had never thought of this as an option, but there's definitely a seed planted now.
