I'm worried sick about my 65 yr old Mom, who is alcoholic, has memory loss and has been hospitalized. My brother has POA and I'm not sure what to do.
My miom is a sereve alcoholic and is now been in hospital care as of sat 2 weeks,her memory is no better,not eating,has a bad urinary tract infection,weights 72 pounds and was in hospital over thanksgiving too.This meomory loss is dailyt events as well aas stories she making up.Tney said she was walks with a irregular gait too.She has been disnosed with Encephalopathy? Not sure what to do IU live in MN and she lives in FL?They said if her memory doesn't clear she cannot ever live alone aGAin?My brother the one taking care of her when they found er unresposive 2 sats ago.he also is power of attonrey over her sand her things?help need advice asap.

This, however, is not a question initially concerning care, or Alzheimer's, it's truly a medical question, and a situation bordering on a life-threatening emergency based on her weight and apparent failure to thrive.
Your family, for your mother's sake needs immediate medical intervention. Contact her primary care physician and ask him to have her admitted to the hospital for treatment of her UTI, and a complete medical evaluation. This is just minutes away from a severe medical emergency.
