What's the prognosis with a liver cancer diagnosis?
When someone you know has been diagnosed with liver cancer, he or she needs to find out several things about the cancer:
- The type (primary vs. secondary)
- Extent (spread within the liver and outside the liver)
- Presence of any other significant liver disease, like cirrhosis.
With this information, your doctor should be able to estimate what to expect if the disease follows its normal course, that is the prognosis and what symptoms you may need to manage.
No good answer. My Colon Cancer has spread to my Liver (2nd time) and some Limph notes . I feel good still work everyday, take Chemo every other week have very positive outlook
As Ms. Daneker pointed out it depends on a number of factors. My father was diagnosed in December of 2009 and passed away in August 2010 after two different rounds of transarterial chemoembolization. The cancer never metastasized outside of his liver. He had been a type II diabetic for about six years which contributed to him getting NASH disease(non-alcoholic cirrhosis). In turn, NASH can result in cancerous tumors in the liver.
For my dad, it was this combination of factors that resulted in a continuing downward spiral.
God Bless.
