Did not receive walker shortly after arriving, nor the entire first day, as required. Did not receive required antibiotic for ongoing infection the first day . Other person in room is young woman disabled and unable to do any self care. Pushed call button for help. After an hour of waiting started loudly calling out for help please....many times. I got up withoutassistive device and went to hall to find someone to help. Found one down the hall and explained. The said they were very busy with many lights and to tell her to just go in the bed and they'd change her bed later. Another 15 minutes I started banging on the wall as heard a group of women laughing and talking outside the door. On finally came in and yelled at me, saying I was scaring people. More conversation that was extremely rude on her part. Another person came in and yelled at me . A totally horrid first day experience!! Now to get out of here tomorrow. Not sure how I'll obtain needed rehab. Run fast and far if ever recommended to one here!!

There was a nursing home where my dad's wife was in at Newberg and it is called Chehalem Health & Rehabilitation. The physical building was okay. It was just a nursing home. The building was a little bit older and I would say that it needed more updating. With regards to sanitation though, it seemed very good. It didn't smell. It seemed pretty well kept. The staff was very friendly and very compassionate. My dad's wife was more in a hospice sort of situation and she ended up passing away there. The hospice people were in very close communication with the nurses that were working with us. They had good communication and made it easier for us. They were just very compassionate. As far as care, I would recommend this facility.

This facility offers rehab and memory care, as well as some intermediate nursing care. It is located a couple minutes off the main highway, in a residential area, nestled among backyards. Parking is adequate. It's an older building that hasn't been updated, making it feel drab and dull"”with a "˜40s or "˜50s feel. The only special touches seem to be seasonal flowers on the outside porch. There is a common area with a large fish tank and large screen TV, but most of the residents don't seem to interact with one another or the staff much. There is also a back dining area, well lit by natural light from a window. All meals are served there"”in addition to minimal activities such as bingo and ice cream socials. The food served is average, with the look of cafeteria food. The caregiving staff in the dining area does seem well attuned to residents' likes and dislikes, and to engage with them. As for housing, there are two residents to each compact room, which feel more like dorm rooms"”about the width of four twin beds, without much space for more than a small dresser. The bathrooms are adequate, but basic. Storage space is minimal. There are often residents sitting in the hallway, parked in wheelchairs. The hallways have a hectic feel"”and there, staff does not seem to engage with them much, or to engage in conversation with outsiders. In the memory care unit, there are also two residents in each room. There is a very small common area, with only a couple chairs"”and a small patio area. But the caregiving staff there is attentive, and seems to do a good job engaging with residents"”striving to make more meaningful connections to them than in the other parts of the facility. They are very patient with the residents who have challenging behavioral issues. The majority of the residents in this facility are on Medicaid.
