I am a friend or relative of a current/past resident

My husband was at Astral at Auburn for a respite care stay. The place was two years old. It was very nice and very clean. The staff was very good. They went above and beyond. The activities director was phenomenal. My husband saw her in the hall and said he had to hang a nail, and she was right there taking care of it. I had a meal there, and the food was good. They had activities. My husband was there just before Christmas, and they had Christmas music going. They brought music people in who would give little concerts. One young high school gal came in and played the violin beautifully in the dining room for about 40 minutes. They had a movie night, they had bingo and church services were offered. They had a library and a game room that had puzzles in it. There was always something to do. They had happy hour every Friday night, and they had snacks with that, like a charcuterie board or cookies. It was upper class. It was good. They had beer, they had wine, and they had Whiskey, and pop soda was offered as well. It was a very good experience.

I visited this facility

Astral at Auburn was a modern facility. The staff was very nice. The residents that we talked to seemed to love it. I liked all the different activities. I loved the open terrace idea on the top. Independent living would be perfect for my parents at this point and I liked how they have different levels of care if someone gets sick, but their goal seems to be to get them back to the independent lifestyle. So, I was just impressed with the whole facility. They had a lady that had just come back from a bicycle ride when we were there. I didn't see anyone in the activity center, but they had a very large and well-stocked facility. They had a nice church for services and I loved all the different available activities. It's posted right there for all the residents to follow if they want to participate in bingo or cards. I think it's a new facility and there are not really that many people out there right now. We looked at all the different rooms, but the one that I liked was the one-bedroom with the den because the den was right off the living room. So that's more of like a daybed where my mom would like to sleep during the day so she could still be part of the household and wake up easily if someone comes over to visit versus being back in a separate bedroom. The two bedrooms were also nice. They all have outdoor balconies. They have a very generous visitor and guest policy. Plus, the residents are not treated like prisoners. If they wanted to come up and spend the night with me, we just let them know or if they will be on vacation, or if they have extra people. So, they still could have their own lives and I think that's wonderful. They have a pool, and a workout facility with trainers and physical therapists there. Their medicine system was very easy to understand and very secure. They've got it going on and the staff was just amazing. They were very, very friendly. We haven't tried any meal there but they invited us to come and bring my parents out any time for a meal.
