You will need unlimited funds to get adequate care in the memory care unit. While the facility is lovely, the memory care unit is not equipped to care for patients that wander. The halls are not monitored by staff, so residents can wander into other residents rooms. If your loved one needs any care beyond meals and medications you will be asked to get outside care with an additional cost. These costs can be very high. Also their care point system is based on minutes to perform a particular task, they also will not allow you to see the internal document that determines the care point costs. It appears that laundry, cleaning, and medications are included in the base price given, but they use up the allotted points for those quickly and then add more points for basic needs. Be careful of medications given on Watermark's schedule not what the patient needs.

Diana was the one we worked with at The Watermark at Napa Valley and she was phenomenal and so helpful. She gave great insights on how to help mom in the best way. Their amenities were outstanding. They had two 5-star restaurants and then another nice restaurant. They had snacks out that people could come and get at any time. So it wasn't just three routine meals. They were open all the time with snacks and if you wanted something extra, you could get it. You could either have the food taken to your room, like room service, or you could go to the restaurant. They had a happy hour in their general area so it was just phenomenal. It was luxury resort living. Diana showed us two studios and a one-bedroom. The studios were very nice with had very different layouts that would work well for anybody. On the first one that we walked down, I noticed that the kitchenette was a little bit further from the bedroom and the living area, which in our instance was a little bit of a walk, but for a regular person, it was just right there. The next studio was more of an all-inclusive. It was very clean. They had one that looked onto the courtyard in the center with all of its fountains and flowers, while the other one was secluded, like a parking lot kind of view that looked over the tennis courts and things like that. The one-bedroom was very spacious and very nice. They had very short hallways, so there was not a ton of walking and it's soundproof. You could be in the hallway and not hear any of the other residents' televisions or anything. It was well done.

We like that The Watermark at Napa Valley is set up kind of like a resort. It's very open and has friendly people. It doesn't feel like the kind of place that my mom wouldn't like. It looked like the people living there were very active. Even their memory care seemed to have a lot of programs. I think that it's a place that my family will like going to see my mother. The accommodations, the room, and everything looked really good. The staff is professional and friendly too. I tried the food on the day we went to tour it and it was good.

I moved dad into The Watermark at Napa Valley last February. He has dementia. They are unable to care for him, they just don't have the staff, and they don't have the experience because they're very new. He needs more attention than they are able to give him. The Watermark itself is excellent and beautiful and the food is delicious, everyone loves it. And the caregivers are very sweet, caring, and attentive. There's just not enough of them. It's gorgeous, absolutely beautiful. It's like a resort. I had a tasting before I brought him there and it was excellent. It looks really good. My sister ate there, and she said it was really good. I ate some grilled fish, a little lamb chop, and something else that was really good, but this was in the independent part. They have a beautiful workout room. On Wednesday afternoons, they have a very fun, happy hour for all the residents. They have bocce ball, they have a garden, and they have a little putting green. It's very well done.
