As a professional in the area, I have informed clients of University Place, an independent living retirement community. This community is for seniors and the handicapped, & does offer HUD assistance, if needed, making it more affordable for those on limited income.
This community, which is multi-leveled, has inside-based apartments with long hallways. It has a first floor living room-type general gathering area & managing staff is present some of the time.
From client's comments and my own involvement & observations, this community has many problems: poor apt. condition, poor maintenance, little or no security, and uninvolved & unresponsive staff.
One client told me: "They (staff) just don't care.". Another client said: "There is always something happening, police are always her checking it out. I'm moving as soon as I can."
I would recommend avoiding this community, if at all possible.
