I have visited this place many times in my field and I cannot recommend it enough. Quality care mixed with quality surroundings. Excellent and safe location with views of the water and gated walkways. Also the best bang for your buck on Staten Island-skip the name brands-or it will cost you $$$.
Island Shores is a great independent living community right on the beach - it's perfect for those who are still very independent but are just not able or do not want to any longer live on their own. I love that the community is so active - every time I visit, there are residents here and there - everywhere - residents just scattered all over the place doing all different types of activities. I love the hustle and bustle and they love it to, but what I really love is when the sun goes down and after dinner, when everyone is starting to settle down and prepare for bed, that is favorite time in the facility - because that is when everyone just stops and slows down, when many of them are engaged in conversations in the common areas, when everything is just laid-back and relaxed. That's my favorite time in the community - at the end of a busy day.
There are so many wonderful programs and opportunities for the residents to join and participate in. The activity and event schedule is packed full of exciting and creative and very fun options for the residents to choose from. They really love group activities and being social and spending time with one another. The residents choose their lifestyles, their own daily routines so their days can be as busy or relaxed as they like. They choose. Lots of the residents love to take walks on the beach (who doesn't) so many of them do so in groups of 2 or more which makes it much safer for the residents. I really love that the residents have so many options and opportunities and so many fun things to do everyday with so many wonderful friends to join them. The residents always seem so happy, so satisfied with the community - with their lives. I am always so thrilled to hear them tell me about all of their fun "adventures" and all of their stories, they are all very interesting and great people - I could listen to them talk all day - they are just so full of life - it's really inspiring.
Island Shores is in the perfect location, it's a beautiful community - It's 5 stories so the residents have plenty of space to move around and breathe in. I like that there is enough space for them to be able to also enjoy some alone time out in the facility and not just in their apartments. There are SO many sitting areas and sitting nooks throughout the community so it is so easy to sneak away and enjoy a good book or just relax in the peace and quiet. They may be some of the most active residents I have seen - but even they need a little peace and quiet now and again and everyone needs a little time to themselves - this community allows them both, which is awesome.
I highly, highly encourage those searching for senior living in the Staten Island area to take the time to visit Island Shores.
