My husband will be moving into Spring Haven Retirement. It was pleasant. They're in the process of enlarging and renovating the place. Everything is going to be repainted and new and fresh looking, so that's a positive. I like the fact that they have options for meals. They have three options for lunch and dinner, which is nice. The rooms are larger than other places. The staff was very helpful. They have activities.

Spring Haven seemed to be too large of a facility for us. It's not that cozy of an atmosphere. It's more costly also, so that was another deciding factor. They had an outdoor secure area. It seemed to be not as homey. It was a little bit too big. The staff who took me around was friendly, personable, and informative. No issues with the staff.

Spring Haven Retirement had the smell of urine and the quality of care just did not seem to be there. My sister and I were very, very turned off by the place and it was supposedly one of the better ones. The staff there seemed very nice, but there was one lady sitting in a wheelchair by a door and from the whole time I walked in trying to get through that door, nobody even acknowledged her. They completely ignored her. I'm sure there are times when people are busy, but I just felt like at least somebody should have acknowledged her and tried to help her in some way. It was just not a very happy environment. The rooms were not that bad. They're simple and clean. They only showed me the empty ones, so I didn't see any that had residents in them. They didn't have a lot of amenities, which I'm sure from memory care they wouldn't, but as far as the rooms went, they looked OK. The building was pretty rundown. The paint on the walls was really bad. It just looked horrible. The trim and everything was rough-looking and the floors were even really old. If people were putting that kind of money into a place like that, you're talking about $2300 a month and I understand a lot of that is for staffing, you would think some of that money would go into the care of the building and the structure and all of that. They have one activity going on in a very small area with some of the residents and it was like a snack time or something like that and they seemed to be doing OK. Nobody looked like they were in distress or anything. So, I had no complaints about that part.

We toured Spring Haven Retirement. They gave us a tour of the whole thing. The independent living looked like it's going to fit my mom's needs for now. One of the things is that they can go from independent to the assisted fairly easily from there. It was great. It was above expectations. The staff who assisted us was great. The person that we originally were supposed to do the tour with, I had to change the time, so she wasn't able to do it. But this person did, and she was very pleasant. We really enjoyed her being the one that gave us the tour, even though there were some things she had to look up, and didn't know all the answers to. It was fine; it was good. We were there around lunchtime, so some of the activities were not going on. What was really nice I thought was they have an activity pool there for people to get in. I don't know if my mom will utilize it, I hope she would; I think that would be good for her. But they have game nights, and they have exercise rooms, things like that. It looked like she would not have a problem finding things to do there. The rooms were clean. One room we were in was being renovated, so obviously it's in a little bit different condition, but it was the only one that they had vacant. It was one of the efficiencies. My sister really liked the layout of the bathroom. My mom sometimes has some issues falling, and it seemed like it would be a lot safer than her current house. They've got plenty of handrails and built-in sit-down thing for the tub and all that, so we really like the efficiencies a lot. They were clean, they were good. I like the layout. Another positive is the fact that they allow pets. My mom has a cat, and so that was a very much a plus.
