This facility is located near downtown Novato. It’s not a high-rise, but spread-out on a level lot. It’s has easy access to local shopping and the freeway.
The facility has pleasant grounds. It’s in a level area, so is better for walking than many other homes.. There are cute little paths around it, and it’s easy to walk from the facility to local parks or shopping if you’re mobile.
The common areas are nice, but not as fancy as some of the other places. It’s a little more homey – rattan and upholstery instead of the fancier appointments – but it’s pleasant and clean. They have lots of gathering areas, indoors and outdoors. There’s a pretty patio area with comfortable furniture outside, and a workout room that is fully equipped – that’s unusual around here. They have a TV room and computer room, with their own barbershop and salon.
The residents’ rooms are a little simpler and smaller than at some of the other facilities in the area. They don’t have a lot of amenities in the room.Still, residents seem comfortable.
The staff is pleasant and clean. They seem to be well trained. They have 24-hour staff and an event director, in addition to staff who provide medication management.
They also have a “memory care neighborhood”, so they do provide some memory care support – names on residents’ doors, lots of gentle reminders, mental stimulation and other techniques to support people with mild to moderate dementia. Beyond that level, they usually recommend residents with dementia move to a more skilled facility.
The food is okay. It’s relatively nutritious, though tending a little more toward American cheese and canned fruit the last time I visited. This might have improved since Atria took over.
I know they were talking about going green there too, but I don’t know what they’ve done toward that end. I know that was part of the philosophy that was intended there.
They have a spa where you can get a massage. They also have snacks around the clock, which is especially good for night owls. At some of the other places with strictly set kitchen schedules and no food allowed in rooms, that can be a problem for some.
