I am a friend or relative of a current/past resident

Although they have a five star review. The lack of follow through of communication is horrible. The nurse manager takes notes of care and the floor nurses have no clue what the care procedures are. Meds are hours late When you ring a bell for a nurse it takes them over an hour to respond. Not acceptable. Nice place. Lousy care

My father moved into Cedar Community. They've done a terrific job watching him. They have done an outstanding job changing what they do for him in order to match where the disease is. I'm just very, very pleased with how he's doing there. His room is spacious. It holds all of the family heirlooms and things that he took with him from his home, and there's plenty of room. They have a garden that his room looks out to and he would be able to get out there come summertime and wander around the gardens that they have going. The common areas are nice, especially the restaurant that he uses. They have several larger group areas where they can do programs like bingo or different religious activities like praying the rosary. He goes down to the activities himself. They announce them when they're going to start, and he makes the effort to get down there. If it's something that is an exercise program that he should be attending, they go and actually search him out so that he takes advantage of it. The food is excellent. It's designed for the assisted living residents where they'll have a generous breakfast and a generous lunch, and then a little bit less for supper. People go to bed early and that keeps things like reflux at bay. It's not cheap, but I think he does very well there. And it's that kind of idea that it's worth the money if he's doing well.

My mother was at Cedar Community. They could easily accommodate lots of people and provide lots of personal attention to my mother. The thing I liked least was the administration had a lot of problems keeping things straight, so she would miss doctors' appointments because they didn't get the transportation correct. She was in assisted living during the whole COVID period, which was hard because of their lockdown procedures. They seemed like they were more stringent than the place she's in now. It was hard on her. It was a nice place. It was tough, but everybody had a learning curve there. The problem that makes it average is that they've had a lot of turnover, which I think is also normal here with COVID that people are not staying in their jobs, and that's very hard for the service industry. They had very few activities. The place was plenty big. They had a salon, a gift shop, a snack shop, a beautiful courtyard, and an outside park. They had a nice room that was used as a chapel. The building is a little bit older and could use some upkeep. It was pretty expensive.

Provider Response

Hello Paula, Thank you for taking time to share your thoughts. And thank you for the privilege of caring for your mother! Serving our residents lovingly—and safely—during COVID-19 has presented enormous challenges both for our residents and our team members. Heightened (and changing) regulations from the Center for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS) required many adjustments (sometimes daily and hourly!) to procedures, protocols, and the availability of some activities and services. We regret any inconveniences that you and your family may have experienced during the pandemic. We care deeply about every one of our Cedar Community family members and aim to provide five-star care and compassion. We wish you the best and a happy and healthy 2022!

I visited this facility

We toured Cedar Community in West Bend. They showed us everything very nicely. The apartment we saw looked good. It's a very big community, and we thought it's nice. The staff we met was very friendly and helpful. I would say it's probably one of the best places that we looked at. I like its location. It was not in a crowded area of a city, but it was also just outside of town and that was something that appealed to us. They had a small library and some activities too. They had people come in and talk about things or entertain.

Cedar Community is fine, but I chose a different facility because of the floor plan and amenities. For me Cedar was a little bit too remote, the actual place was out in the country. I didn't want to do that. The layout of the facility was fine. The staff was friendly but she was a little bit late getting to us. They did a lot of protocols for Covid which is fine. Nothing special but it was a tour. The apartments were small than the ones from the facility we have chosen. They also had fewer places to store things so that was also a concern. They also didn't have a full kitchen, I didn't like that they only have a microwave in them. There weren't as many social gathering places as other place that I've seen. They had outdoor spaces though. They mentioned that they have a lot of activities but of course they don't do most of them at the moment. It's been a few weeks since I was there so I can't remember what they did. I think it's still a good place, it's a nice rural settings if you like to be in a more rural setting.

Provider Response

Cindy, thank you so much for taking the time to post a review of Cedar Community. We always encourage people to tour multiple options for assisted living, because just as you said, there are many different types of places, and finding the right fit for you is incredibly important. Many of our larger apartments do offer a full kitchen, but the smaller units have a kitchenette, as our program already includes three restaurant-style meals per day, and most of our residents don’t do any major cooking. We are also very proud of our more than 500 acres of beautiful campuses, woods, and lakefront, but we also recognize that we are not always going to be exactly what folks are looking for, and we are so pleased that you did find the right fit for you! We wish you all of the best in your future. Thank you!!

I visited this facility

Cedar Community was very nice, but a little pricier than what my mother wanted to spend. It was clean and there seemed to be nice amenities. The dining room and rooms were nice and clean. Some rooms were nicer than others for the same price, which was a turn off, and was kind of uncomfortable.

Cedar Bay Assisted Living is a nice place, so we ended up choosing it. They have a lot to offer like bingo and other things. The food is good, too.

The service at Cedar Bay was very good, and the staff was very friendly. The facility was very clean. The room I had was very bright and cheerful; it overlooked their pond and garden. The food was good.

Cedar Community was an excellent community with good staff. We had a tour of the place and saw the menu and dining facility. The rooms were very nice. They had puzzles, visiting choral groups, games, movies, and shopping.

The staff at Cedar Bay West Assisted Living facility is very caring. There is a 24 hour nursing staff. The meals served there are excellent. Each resident gets to order what they want to eat each meal from a choice of two or three entrees, two vegetables or fruits, and two deserts. The rooms are studio apartments, but there are different sizes. My mother loves living there. She is well cared for. A plan of care for each resident is preformed every 6 months, with a family member notified as to when that review will take place and invited to attend. There are activities planned every day, with games or programs each weekday morning and afternoon.

My grandmother moved there at age 93, and her immediate review was that she said she wished she had moved there long before. She made good friends there, and the staff were excellent. When she was dying, they kept her in hospice there, rather than sending her to a nursing home, and they took excellent care of her.

The community impressed me upon arrival, it was clean, well kept, and the staff was quite helpful. The room the patient was staying is was also clean and organized. The resided said she could get help anytime she wanted and never felt like she was being forced to do something. Mealtimes where at the discretion of the resident and were not forced at a specific time. The residents are encouraged to participate in group activities like Wii bowling teams. There is also a large outdoor area that can be used by the residents anytime they wish.
