Tudor Oaks Senior Living Community was very nice. They had very nice facilities. It was upgraded and secured with modern amenities. They had a swimming pool, a fitness room, a theater, an outdoor area, a barbecue area, and grills. The staff members were very well informed and took the time with us. They had adequate things to do.

We are on a waiting list at Tudor Oaks Senior Living Community. Some of the retirement homes do not have advanced care and they're not certified for advanced care, but Tudor Oaks has all levels of care. I liked the layout of the rooms and the services provided. The social services, and physical therapy services, all of that was very helpful. They would provide church services. I saw the library, the eating area, the restaurant area, and the entertainment area where they have movies and speakers come in. There was an outside gazebo area where they had live music in the summer. They had outdoor patios, which were very, very nice. The place was kept very, very clean. The staff was cheerful, and helpful, and wanted to express how happy they were.

The grounds of the facility are beautiful. The exercise facility and pool are great features. However, these are a poor substitute for insufficient skilled staff. Assisted living and memory care residents don't use the exercise facility and pool, but they do deserve skilled care provided by licensed/credentialed employees. Lots of pool staff and employee turnover. Little communication among staff. Nearly impossible to receive information from staff. Phone calls and written requests go unanswered. Less landscaping and more emphasis on providing care for residents inside the buildings is essential.

My in-laws have been placed in Tudor Oaks. It's a really, really nice place. They have great outdoor areas. The staff is very caring and very attentive. They check on them every mealtime to see whether they're going, and they check on them at night. They're just very caring. They reported that the food there is excellent. They're very happy there. They have a one-bedroom, one-bathroom apartment. It's a decent size and very nice. They have a variety of rooms; some are bigger than others. They have a swimming pool and a therapy gym. They have activities like crossword puzzles, bingo, and happy hour every Friday. It's nice because it has all levels of care there. They've got skilled nursing, assisted living, independent living, and memory care. No matter what you need, it's there. One of my in-laws is in skilled nursing and one is level 1 (assisted living). It's a big advantage because there's very few that offer the full continuum of care. The care there has been impeccable. The most important thing is the care that they're getting and the meals. Every time we go there, they say. "We love the food." I'd recommend it to anybody. It's a good place.

Tudor Oaks Senior Living Community just felt like a facility. It's a large one compared to other places, and it's just not a good place for Mom. I don't think they have enough staffing. They don't have enough staffing, and people need help, and they're not getting it. The residents seemed good and OK, they seemed kind of happy. It was the overall feeling that I didn't care for, but the facility is nice. It feels more like a facility and not like a home. They have activities.

My mother was in rehab at Tudor Oaks Senior Living. She loved it. She said the food was really good, and that's one of the important things to my mother. They brought her snacks, and the therapy was there every day working with her. I was there when they did an evaluation, when they thought she could go home, and they were very thorough with that. They did very well there.

About Tudor Oaks Senior Living Community in Muskego, Wisconsin
Assisted Living Concerns
Often adult children are suddenly required to make living arrangements for their parents that include moving to safer surroundings. Helping loved ones make good decisions about their future can often be stressful and at times even overwhelming. At Tudor Oaks we understand and have gathered the following information to help you make the best decision and assist you through the process. We offer information and answer several key questions that are often asked, and are confident this will help you create a plan that makes sense for you and your loved one.
What is Assisted Living?
Tudor Oaks newly redeveloped assisted living wings combine housing and personal care in a beautiful, residential setting. Trained staff is available 24 hours a day to provide support for those who need assistance with daily activities such as bathing, dressing and medications, but do not yet require complex medical services. Residents enjoy 3 delicious meals each day and a variety of snacks. The private assisted living apartments feature a living room, bedroom, tea kitchen and private bathroom with a walk in shower. Each assisted living wing has a spacious common area that includes a living room, dining room, activity space plus a lovely balcony. Assisted Living residents also enjoy the campus amenities such as theater, green house, art gallery, warm water aquatic pools and Bistro just to name a few.
How do you know when it's time for Assisted Living?
Safety first! If the home or current living situation is cause for concern, it's time to consider a change and assisted living may be the answer. Signs one should watch for that indicate a change is needed are:
- Personal hygiene changes
- Clothes worn repeatedly or not laundered
- Confusion with medications
- Poor nutrition
- Recurring falls
- Isolation and/or forgetfulness.
If you have noticed any of these symptoms, consider touring Tudor Oaks. Here they can receive assisted living services and the benefits of specialized care, while you are provided peace of mind knowing they are safe. Before moving to assisted living, residents are given a full comprehensive nursing assessment to determine the level of care needed, this will also provide pertinent information to help guide needed decisions.
As a continuing care retirement community (CCRC), Tudor Oaks features several levels of care and living options. Residents in our rehabilitation area have the convenience of moving from their rehab stay directly to our assisted living, should they require that level of care before returning home. The transition is quick, easy and relaxed because residents and family are in familiar surroundings and much of the paperwork is already in place.
For seniors with memory concerns, Tudor Oaks offers assisted living memory care. This area of the community serves those with Alzheimer's or other cognitive impairments. They have private apartments with their own private bathroom.
How do I approach my loved one about moving to Assisted Living?
Often when adult children contact Tudor Oaks it's after, or during, a healthcare crisis, hospital stay, during a rehab stay or a drastic change in health. In this situation you can rely on healthcare professionals to recommend the best setting for your family member. They have the ability to determine what the needs really are. The decision for the health and safety of your loved one should, of course, take precedence over the desire to return to the home of 50 years despite all the memories The recommendation and the expression of your own concern for their safety and well-being will set your family on the right course. After a decision is made, family members find a sense of relief and can return to being the son or the daughter, rather than being the caretaker who is often overwhelmed. Assisted living offers residents opportunity to remain as independent as possible while enjoying the security of 24 hour assistance if needed.
However, it’s important to know you don't need to wait for a crisis to consider a move to assisted living. Many residents and families tour our community and learn about the program and see apartments long before any kind of health issue arises. Once they see our newly redeveloped assisted living wing and meet the happy residents, their concerns are put aside and they welcome the change. Making the transition under these conditions is more desirable and less stressful than having to react to an emergency situation.
I want peace of mind knowing my loved one is safe and secure.
At Tudor Oaks we provide around-the-clock services and observation. This means you can be assured our staff is there to support your loved one and keep you informed. For each new resident we create an individualized care plan that monitors their well-being, and if changes do occur we are able to adapt and make certain they are attended to immediately and appropriately.
Personal care in assisted living typically includes:
- Staff available to respond to both scheduled and unscheduled needs
- Assistance with meals, bathing, dressing and toileting
- Emergency call systems for each resident's apartment plus a personal pendant
- Medication management
- Care for residents with cognitive impairment
- Social and Pastoral care
- All 3 meals plus snacks
- Structured activities
- Access to health and medical services, such as physical therapy and hospice
