I am a friend or relative of a current/past resident

Appleton Retirement Community was recommended through a friend who had their mother staying there. We have chosen this community for my mom because they have the most activities compared to the other places. The staff are always there to help whenever my mom presses her button. They're very helpful. They have a couple movie nights a week. They have bus trips to local parks. They have community bands that come and play at the center. They have multiple different areas for cards, bingo, and virtual bowling. They have amenities like a salon, a theater, game rooms, and card rooms.

My Aunt was a resident at Appleton Retirement Center, I and other nephews looked at many places, after speaking with Sara what Appleton Retirement had to offer and visiting the facilities, we decided to put our Aunt after her hospital stay in ARC. Our decision was based on meeting the care givers & touring the facility. The moving in was very easy, rooms were very clean, bright and very spacious. After dealing with management & staff during her stay, we have picked the right place. Amie ( Director of Operations at ARC) was always accessable & hands on to help in any way for my Aunt. Some day down the road, I will have to find a place when needed. Appleton Retirement Center will be my choice!! Don Treichel

My mom was at Appleton Retirement Community. We were very happy with them. It was a very nice place, but she just had a series of health problems, and they didn't have the large number of staff to resident ratio to stay on top of her needs, but they're very helpful and they were very nice to my mom. As a matter of fact, one of the staff even asked me when we were moving her stuff out of her apartment if she could come and visit my mom at her new place. They genuinely liked her, which was nice. Recently, they have been changing over the flooring and the carpeting on the second floor, and the glue fumes were really not good. I could smell the glue from my mom's apartment on the third floor. I hope that they come up with something about the air quality before they replace the carpeting on another floor. Other that that, I've attended several activities with my mom, and the activities were excellent. They have been somewhat reduced during COVID, but they still have a lot. The lady who was the head of their life enrichment did a fantastic job. Their food was good. They had a good cook, and they frequently offered either fresh salads or homemade soups.

Terrible place! Intimidates residents to not speak up about anything for fear they will be kicked out by management. Knocking noise blown off as a resident ‘losing it’ was actually plumbing that needed repair! More expensive than most other places I’ve researched, and non-refundable pet deposit is ridiculous at $750 per pet plus an additional regular $1500 non-refundable deposit! Winter, it’s hotter than blazes, summer, the A/C is so loud, but does not even reach the bedroom. Food was a fast downhill and is now including undercooked chicken. Management is inexcusably rude! What staff they do have is very good, but they don’t stay long.

I am/was a resident of this facility

Appleton Retirement Community is a wonderful place. There's a lot of activities and the staff is excellent. I just enjoy every day. The food is very adequate. We have a library, a beauty salon, services for Protestants and Catholics, access to taxi cabs, and we have nurses on duty at all times. Everything that I need is here. We play Bridge twice a week, Bingo, and we go shopping every week.

I visited this facility

Appleton was very pleasant. Their units were smaller than what we were looking for, but they were very nice. At that time, they only had 1 unit available with 2 bedrooms, otherwise everything else was very nice. The staff was very nice and the food was very good. It happened to be a birthday lunch. They also served cocktails.

My mother moved into Appleton 4 days ago. It was close to her original home. It was clean and neat, and they offered a lot of activities, including religious activities. They have a dining room that was beautiful; it's like a restaurant. The staff was very friendly.

I visited this facility

The only thing I didn't like about Appleton Retirement Community was that my mother would've had to do a lot more for herself. They couldn't offer as many things as the others could for her physical abilities. The staff was very nice and called me a couple of times to see how things were going and what we thought. They were very friendly and very nice. They went on a lot of trips and had activities going on all of the time. It was bigger and older than the other two we visited, but my mother would've been in a newer wing. It was well kept up, and you couldn't tell that it's going to be at least 10 years old if not more.

I visited this facility

My mother-in-law is in the Appleton Retirement Center right now trying to decide if she feels up to going home or if she wants to find a permanent facility. I think it is nicer than where she was before. It seems well-kept, the staff seems friendly, and they do have a lot of activities for the residents. They have little apartments for them because it is not really meant to be so much for medical services as it is an assisted living place. They have their full living space -- they have sinks, refrigerators, and microwaves -- and they are self-contained.

Appleton Retirement Community is bright and cheery, and the apartments are larger than most. The staff is very nice and my mother has been pleased with all those she has come into contact with. They have activities all the time; there are Bingo, cards, and bus trips quite often. She has been on just about one bus trip every week. Yesterday, they went to a state park and had a picnic. She has gone to a casino, a concert in the park, Wal-mart, and other places. The facility is located right downtown and the food is very good. We are very happy with the place.

My father is already placed at Appleton Retirement Community. They have a secure building. I liked that they were knowledgeable, how nice everyone was and their employees tend to stay quite a while. I also liked the size of the apartment. The parking was fine. The people that have cars parked them underground and when we go to visit we just park in the parking lot. He gets 20 meals a week because he’s considered independent living. He gets breakfast and lunch or dinner or whatever he chooses. Breakfasts don’t count, lunch charges in the 20 meals. They have a whole day of things they choose to do. They have trips; they take them to Walmart, to concerts and to lunch. They also have Bible study and exercises.

We mainly chose Appleton Retirement Community because my mother knew some people who were there, so she was comfortable with the place. Then it also came down to the price. At Appleton, you could choose the amount of care for your loved one. They have four different levels of care. We can go with the care that caters to my mom's specific needs, and we like that, too. Mom was grumpy when we moved her in, but she seems to like it now, and she seems to be thriving there. The rooms are fairly large. They have a studio apartment, where the living room and the dining room are in one area, and then a small bedroom and a small bathroom. Or you can get a one-bedroom, where the bedroom is really big and separate from everything else. Or you can have a two-bedroom. So they have pretty good variety of prices and sizes of rooms at Appleton. The staff is very kind and very helpful. I think that they have a lot of people on staff. There is always somebody to help, somebody to talk to, and somebody to ask about stuff. There is always somebody to help my mom. They have all kinds of activities going on. They have movie nights and bingo nights. They have shopping trips and trips to local baseball teams and games. Regarding the food, they give everyone a choice of two or three entrees for each meal. Overall, the only complaint I have is that they are really overambitious with their sales tactics. They are really in your face and a little overbearing.
