Assited living residents get little care or services. Housekeeping staff are very kind and do the best they can, but are not allowed sufficient time to do a complete job. Staff turnover is a severe problem. Communication from Executive Director was rare, and only happened after numerous calls and messages were left. Food quality is poor, and residents are kept waiting far too long for dining room services because they are so understaffed. There were issues with medication dispensing, and an unreported injury my loved one suffered. It is a beautiful facility, but is severely understaffed and are not doing as well as they should be for the amount they charge.

We visited Bonaventure of Salmon Creek. It looked like a nice community. It was spacious. The people there (both residents and staff) were friendly. It was a little more upscale. It was a little bit more expensive, but it also seemed worth it. The layout of the room was very spacious. There was one big kitchenette, dining room, and living area. The bedroom was separate. They had big bathrooms and walk-in shower rooms. It was set up for it to be convenient for the elderly. I got to go through the dining area. They had a couple. They had a big cafeteria area, and they also had a coffee bar section. It was nice. They had good options for people. They did doctor's appointments on Tuesdays and Thursdays. They did grocery shopping and the library on Mondays and Wednesdays. They also seemed to have a full calendar of events that included trips to different places. They seemed to have a lot of on-site activities, like luaus and stuff like that.

My dad is in Bonaventure of Salmon Creek. It is very inviting, very homey, and very comfortable. The apartment is great. He is on the third floor, and he has a beautiful view of the woods. Everything was beautifully clean, and the maid service is amazing. The staff is amazing. They have a front desk clerk, I don't know her name, but she has been very personable and great with my dad helping him out with lots of stuff. He is doing a painting class, he is also doing a gardening class, and he's participating in the newsletter. He writes a little column for the newsletter. He has two meals a day. It's usually breakfast and dinner, and he loves the food. I have had lunch with him there, and the food was amazing, surprisingly.

My tour at Bonaventure of Salmon Creek was great. They were very caring and they did a lot of following up. They were even willing to reach out to the hospital where my mom was staying, to coordinate. Everything was nice, but for the type of person, my mom is, their place seemed a little too busy and too resort-like. It wouldn't have been her style. For me when I get older, I would love to go there, but it wasn't going to be the right fit for my mom. The staff who gave the tour was great. Very knowledgeable and also upfront on costs and everything, and they gave me a full tour of the facilities. The apartments were very nice but I don't think it would have accommodated my mom's dog. They were almost too nice where I don't think she would feel comfortable like it wouldn't feel like a home for her. The staff is excellent and the place is very nice and very clean. There's just so much going on. It was like you would never have needed to leave the facility. They have everything inside, which is cool, but it's not quite for my mom. Plus, they have all the different levels like independent living and needs living. But I think my mom would feel like she'd get lost in their facility.

Bonaventure of Salmon Creek is a beautiful place. The rooms were a little smaller than anything else we'd look at and then the older places. If you're looking at a studio, it's pretty tiny. The director who gave the tour was very good, and she gave us a box of chocolates for visiting. Overall it's impressive, it's decorated beautifully and it's very modern. I thought it looked very well-kept and very clean. It was a good location, the only downside for us is that this is a private care center. And once you run out of your money, you're just sort of on your own.

I toured Bonaventure of Salmon Creek in-person. We didn't do the whole facility, just a little apartment, a studio or 1-bedroom. It looked good. The tour was informative, but I doubt that my mom would move in. The woman that we met with was wonderful, very informative, and helpful. It would cost more than what I'll probably be able to do.

After visiting with a family member and hearing (more than one) story regarding the paid for, yet not received benefits of staying in an assisted living home, I feel compelled to write a review for this facility on behalf of the people that live there, many of them who cannot speak for themselves. First, I notice this facility seems to have a very hard time keeping housekeeping staff. They are overworked and spread very thin. We recently found out that my family has gone weeks without housekeeping services, which they pay for, handsomely in their rent. This additional housekeeping cost is not a small amount. When confronted with the "oversight" management sent someone from maintenance to clean the rooms. You can only imagine how that turned out. It appears as though the staff is friendly (including the maintenance person) and well liked, however they are understaffed. The real problem seems to be in management and their unwillingness to actually provide the staff that can produce the service the residents pay for. I'm placing this review on behalf of my family members that are staying here. When choosing a home that provides services for loved ones unable to care for themselves, it goes without saying you hold the management of these facilities to a much higher standard than you would for a normal housing complex. Bonaventure management does not meet these high expectations

They only provide 2 caregivers from 6am to 10pm for 56 residents. Considering caregivers need required breaks and that 9 hours man-hours are wasted having the caregivers work during the dining hours in the restaurants. Yes, the only two caregivers also work in the restaurants rather than providing care. That leaves us 19 man-hours during the day. The current demand is 28 hours if everyone is on the lowest possible level system. There are 5 levels of care and it’s hard to believe everyone is level one as stated last week by the Executive Director. They state they have a “proprietary algorithm” and that “Our system is proprietary and allows us more flexibility when it comes to taking care of residents than the a la carte types of systems do. Assisted Living is regulated closely by the state, and our system itself is not changeable or negotiable.” Understand this to mean its proprietary so we cant talk about it and an algorithm so we cant explain how we justify how we charge you for the level of care we say you should be on. I would find a place that can explain exactly what you are getting for what you are paying and that staff accordingly to be able to provide it. We end up paying hundreds of dollars per hours for our care here as I believe most do at any Bonaventure.

Bonaventure of Salmon Creek was resort-like, it was very nice. I've been to a few resorts and that's what it felt like, and I didn't like them. I wouldn't move in there. I can't tell you anything negative about it, it's a beautiful place. If it's like going to Maui and going to stay for a couple of weeks and spend time out on a beach and such, it's a lovely place to be. I just don't want to live there, and I wouldn't be comfortable there. They have everything. The have a barber shop, a beauty shop, and happy hour. I didn't meet any of the staff except the person who showed us around who's a perfectly nice guy, but he was making a pitch. In fact, I've heard from him several times since we visited through follow-up calls.

We chose Bonaventure of Salmon Creek for my aunt. There had been a few glitches though. My aunt is back in the hospital, so she basically has stayed there for a few weeks. I don't like the way they do some of their procedures as far as medications, but all in all, it is a nice place. The rooms are really nice. They are big one-bedroom rooms. They have kitchenettes but they don't have stoves. They have a lot of activities, but my aunt has not been able to join in anything because she has been sick and back in the hospital. They have a library, a movie theater, and a family area where you can have your family.

Provider Response

Thank you for choosing our Salmon creek community. We certainly hope your aunt feels better soon! Please send me a note if there is anything we can do in the meanwhile: Gashby@livebsl.com.

We tried the food at Bonaventure of Salmon Creek, and it was not very good and overcooked. The marketing person seemed to know what he was talking about. The rooms were small, and one of them was not clean. The residents that we saw seemed happy.

Thank you so much for visiting our Salman Creek Community. We do try and make the atmosphere as happy and fun for our amazing senior residents as possible. Please send me a note with more details on the food and I will be sure to make sure we discuss with our cook and housekeeping at that community and we can continue to improve: Gashby@livebsl.com.

The rooms at Bonaventure of Salmon Creek were great. They showed me all the floor plans I wanted to see. The smallest room we looked at was too small for a couple but for one person, it would be fine. The people were fantastic. The community was definitely clean and orderly. The dining area looked nice. It was a nice place.

I liked Bonaventure, but my in-laws didn't like it as much. The buildings didn't have much personality, but it was very clean. It didn't seem too upscale and was expensive. The rooms were OK and had balconies which was nice. The green space around the area was nice as well. I thought it was less confusing than the other places I'd visited.

Bonaventure of Salmon Creek was very clean. I looked at the activity room -- I looked at all through it -- and they showed me all through some outside stuff. I worried about my animals, and you can have a little dog. I just thought it was outstanding. There was a sewing place, a craft place, card games, a movie room, and a snack bar. I was amazed that there was so much. There was an exercise room, and outside there was even a little place where you could help with the plants. I’m like that here in the farm, and that was good too. It had a lot of things. They have a hair place and a laundry room. Of course my friends had their own washer and dryer in their unit, and there was a library. The staff was really friendly, and my friends knew a lot of them to call by name. They remembered them, so I thought that was pretty nice.

Bonaventure is a really nice place, but it's really expensive. I don’t think it’s any nicer than the other community though. They were pretty uppity that the place is very nice. I didn’t really deal with the staff, but it seemed like they were taking care of the residents. I would give it a 4 because the person touring me around couldn’t keep track of the fact that I was looking for a man, and she kept referring to my mother as "it," and she wasn’t paying too much attention to what it was since she was very uppity about the facility. Well, there is a $5000 fee to get in there to start with, whereas others are $750 to $1500. It was too upper class.

I have a good impression of Bonaventure. It’s a fairly new facility, so they were pre-modern looking. The rooms were of the right sizes and have a bathroom for handicapped. They had an exercise room, a recreation room, a movie theatre, and a craft room. It also had a good size dining room area -- one for the assisted side and independent living people. The food was OK with good portions. My mom was there for respite care for a few weeks.

My husband is at Bonaventure of Salmon Creek. He's improving, so I'm going to leave him there for now. He's been there since July of 2015. It's a beautiful place and it has nice people. When we first came, they were pretty much understaffed and we're just concerned about the amount of care that he was getting because he's in the memory care unit, but he likes it a lot. It's new just a year ago. Their work ethics are fine. It's just sometimes they hire kids that are younger and they haven't had the experience they need and they put them right into memory care and that I think is a little too quick. They need to learn a little bit more about the traits of dementia and other diseases that the people are dealing with. The rooms are high ceilings and they have studios with large bathrooms. There are some one-bedroom units and that's what my husband has. It has a big living room, a good sized bedroom and a large bathroom with a walk-in shower. It's really nice.

Bonaventure was a great facility. I think it’s brand new. I find it would be really comfortable for my dad because the rooms were very nice. We were able to eat there in their open dining area, and the food was very good. However, my dad wants to be somewhere closer to his kids.

A very nice facility with a great staff. The problem is that they over-charge for be so understaffed. There are not enough care givers to go around. With the amount of money one pays, they should have a lot more care givers on hand. The few staff I have spoke to agree, they don't have enough help. They really are doing Saints work as their pay is ridiculously low for the work they do. Bonaventure, people make more money working at McDonalds. Think about it!

Bonaventure had good food, nice staff, and nice residents. I talked to one of the residents and highly recommended this place. The rooms were more spacious than others, but the price was still out of sight. The dining room was modern with tables made up of stone. They had an exercise room and a theatre. They had washers and dryers, TVs, a billiard room, and several other areas where you can sit down and relax. They have an independent, assisted living, and Alzheimer’s.

We looked at Bonaventure of Salmon Creek. It is a new facility. It is retirement on one side and assisted living on the other side. It was a very nice facility, and it was brand new, but the biggest problem for us was that it was quite expensive. The rooms were nice. They actually gave me a tour, and I just dropped in without an appointment. I only saw two or three staff, but obviously they were very helpful. I saw the dining room; it was very nice. The facility was brand new, and it was very bright. I did see a couple of the residents, and they were very friendly with the gentleman who was giving me the tour. They did have a lot of activities. They have bingo. They have a Wii bowling room and a little area where they would bring people in and do concert. Also, they have activities like shopping trips.

From what I saw, there was something lacking in Bonaventure of Salmon Creek. It was staged very nicely, but I didn't know if what was staged would be workable with dementia people. What really drew my attention to it was that it was brand new so everything was clean and nice. The price is down right now, so that would make it extremely appealing too. They didn't really have any patients in there yet, and they did invite me back to come see it with people actually using the facility. I would really like to see people in there because they really had everybody isolated, and it sounded like the doors would be closed in the evening to each person's unit. I just didn't know how somebody like mom would operate in that type of environment because she really needs to have things open and not enclosed all the time. They set up the rooms so people could sit in their rooms and enjoy looking outside, so it was kind of like they were going to be encouraging people to stay more in their rooms, but they are welcome to go to the sitting area and stuff. It was kind of like they didn't really know what they were doing yet. I think once they get opened and operating and all of their personnel are in place and such, I would like to go see it again. If I were to rate if for mom, at this point, I wouldn't go more for a three, and this is mainly for the care -- not necessarily the facility itself -- but the level of care that I saw that would be given. Everybody was really energetic and everything because it was so new. I just felt like they needed more security cameras and stuff within the facility, at least, if the nurses were going to be in their office so that they have some surveillance of what is going on within the main unit. They don't have anything in place to let them know if somebody has gotten out of bed and stuff like that. For us, this is very important because she does fall occasionally because she doesn't remember to use her walker. I need that for her care, and they didn't have anything like that in place.

Bonaventure is a brand new facility with nice rooms and a nice dining room. The only thing that was difficult was it took them a couple of months longer to get their certification than I was told initially. It was supposed to be done in January, but they only got certification a week ago. That’s the only downside, but that’s not really their problem; it’s more of the State District. My parents have only been there for a few days, but they seemed to be settling OK. The staff seems friendly and knowledgeable. It's a lot better than the last place my folks were in. I’m very happy that they manage to do things that I wanted. I only had to mention something once, and it was done. They’re attentive and professional. The place is secure. They have trips outside, a media room, and a coffee bar. Half the building is retired, and the other half is assisted living. They still need more staff because they’re still so new, but the staff is very accommodating and nice. The surroundings are nice too.

Bonaventure is a brand new facility, and I met their chef. They have their exercise classes and gardening. They do pottery, financial seminars, and book clubs. They also have a fireplace; it was nice and quieter. The people I saw were friendly. I would recommend this place. Their independent living is a little different than the others because you could get one meal a day, and I think with the others, you didn’t pay for meals.

I visited this facility

I went to Bonaventure, which was the newest and had the best location for us. It was for my mother. However, the one thing that we didn't like about it was for the memory unit; it was locked. There were different stages, of course, as you know and reasons why there were memory problems. Her memory problem stemmed from a stroke. She didn't have Alzheimer's, and her memory sometimes was excellent. However, I decided it wasn't for my mother. It might be for me in a few years. However, it was worth going. The food was good, and it was a nice facility. From what I saw, it wasn't as nice as some of them had. I knew they were building a unit next to that, so it was a mess. I didn't see any really good outdoor space for the people. The street in front of the building was very busy, and they had no fence up or anything. For a normal elderly like me, it would be fine, but not with people with memory problems. However, the rooms were very nice. One apartment had a living room, a bare kitchen, and huge closets. The one had almost a triple closet as you came in, and they had another closet -- which was a big double closet -- in the bathroom. I didn't have too much mingling with the actual staff per se basically, but I met a couple of the residents. They sat and had lunch with us. I was basically with the sales person, and she was very nice and good at her job. She is definitely not pushy; she just basically showed me what they had. They even had a two bench where the men or women could go and woodwork or fix something that needed to be fixed. The tools were up on a pegboard. They also had the garden section where they had places where you could plant things. They had some very nice features like a nice library. They had snacks available at any time. They also have an espresso machine, which was one of my favorites. That was for family, friends, and residents, which were very different.
