I am a friend or relative of a current/past resident

Both my parents have been at this facility and they both thought the care was good. They really liked their therapist. Would recommend this place if you need a nursing home.

I visited this facility

My aunt has lived here for two years and love the way she is treated. Lots of positive things seem to be happening and have gotten to recently know the manager. Good people. My aunt loves the food. I have tasted it and it was ok but better than what I expected. Not everyone loves being in a nursing home but this one seems to be good.

Staff were amazing. Clean but older building. My mom loved her physical therapist and CNA.

Started off ok, relieved that family member would receive good care. Wrong...ended up with pneumonia, bleeding, bladder infection, dehydration, wrong meds, & worst discharge ever. Only changed when I advocated for family member. A month of rehab turned into 3 months of horrible care. Getting better care at home with home health people. Were there a few CNA's that went out of their way, yes. Original social worker, great, but only there a week & gone. Seemed to be a lot of staff turnover & changes, not for the better.

Beware, U.P. had changed. The care is not there. High turn over, what they post as fact for daily staffing is a joke. I can't understand how they get away with it. Room lights stay on for long perikds,of time and no one responses to aid a resident. The employees just go about their business. It's just a job attitude. Lack of upper management standards and presents in the facility. Hot dogSprings are a main meal 3 to 4 times a,week. No diet restrictions for people who have dietary issues. The employee's park in the handicap spots leaving no parking spaces for family. I actually captures a video where there wasn't a staff member to be seen. Anywhere. Oh you could find a few outside on cell phones or in the break room but NO ONE on the floor to provide care. WA state watch dogs really need to address the lack of care in nursing homes. U.P is not alone. Trust me after 5 different locations I have ever come to understand nusing homes are making money and are not in the business to provide love ones a safe caring ho.e away from home. It breaks my heart.

I am a friend or relative of resident

My 91 year old father was placed at UPCC after a fall that broke his ankle. After a week in the facility we were called into a meeting and told that he was just so weak and that he needed to try harder. He kept saying he was just to tired to even eat. two days later he was rushed to the hospital with a severe UTI and a high fever. He ended up with surgery to place a Foley bag for urination. No one ever took his temperature or looked at his soiled bed cloths to see he had blood in his urine. He very easily could have died. When I called and asked for an explanation I was told the nurse would call me back. No one ever did.

I visited this facility

Looks can be very deceiving in this world, this facility is a great example of that. I recently visited University place care center in hopes to find placement for my family member. I was impressed with the looks of the outside, and was even more so being inside. It actually smelt clean and looked cared for. As I proceeded to see if I could get a tour, I noticed no receptionist. I proceeded to walk around and tour myself as it appeared the staff was not interested or willing. I didn't see much that really made this facility stand out. The rehab room was tiny. The nurses station was a mess. I could see that confidentiality was not important as charts were open, appointment paperwork laying out on counter, snacks that were from morning still on counter, paperwork everywhere. I managed to find the medicare hallway after asking staff. The hallway appeared messy, cluttered and uninviting! There was a slight odor, rooms were not fixed or picked up. The residents all looked unkempt and unhappy. I don't think I saw a smiling resident or staff member. The nurses didn't say hello to me and other staff didn't bother either. On my way out I overheard staff talking about being so burned out, that they were short once again. They proceeded to say that the DNS is worthless and stupid and administrator being mean and not friendly. I also heard them talk about a resident being annoying and that they were going to keep her call light going for another staff to answer. I got to my car feeling discusted and thinking this place is horrible. It's a nice building but bottom line residents not getting good care. Staff not happy. And in general there was no professionalism. Again, looks are deceiving. Think twice about this place. My family member isn't coming here.

I am a friend or relative of a resident

I found the work ethics of the staff at University Place Care Center to be diligent, preserving, professional, and caring at all times; it was exemplary. The rooms were very accommodating and came with curtains. The dining room and the patient did not need a room to participate in the dining room activities, but I visited the dining room several times. I found it to be very energetic and refreshing experience. The patients all seemed to be enjoying various social activities at the time of my visit. Numerous activities provided to invigorate and energize the patients. As for the food, the patient is a very particular eater, but she had no complaints about the food either on the portion size, the quality, or variety. I am very positive about the experience and have no complaints.
