I toured Gibson Gardens. It smelled bad. It was not as nice as the other places I went to. It was kind of shabby. The staff was very informative. They need a better lobby, and attention to other residents.

Gibson Gardens is right across from the school, so that wasn't ideal because we were just getting there when school was getting out, so it was a little bit intense. On the other side, it had a lovely neighborhood and it's a gated community. It had beautiful gardens. The layout was nice. It's kind of a U-shape and had flowers everywhere. They had very well-kept gardens. We loved the interior design. They were very organized for that tour. The gal took us around to a lot of the spaces and that's why I'm kind of leaning towards that one because I just really liked it a lot. I love the hallways and the way they were decorated. The apartments were smaller, but they had a nice outdoor space, a nice balcony, and good-sized kitchens with all the amenities. We met with some of the residents who all seemed very happy there, drinking their coffee. They had nice community rooms. They had really good amenities like the shuttle that takes you to the shopping and things like that. They were close to all the services that my mother would need, like the hospitals and shopping. They had a plan that you could pay extra for the meals. They basically buy a meal ticket of five meals and then you could get them every night or you could get them now and then. I liked that because it was not in the rent, so you had the choice. They had a beautiful dining room with a solarium. For an active senior, it's an ideal place. It seemed like a pretty safe neighborhood. Access was nice, but it is in the busier part of Tacoma, so for some people, it might be too much, like with the school traffic and all of that. The parking was good. It was a nice complex. I liked that it was gated. It felt safe and very well taken care of by the groundskeepers.

I had an in-person tour of Gibson Gardens. I liked the property. The property was really clean. The staff was able to show me the one-bedroom apartments that they had. I was impressed that there was a fireplace. It was just a really clean unit. I liked the covered space they had in the kitchen. They have a stove, a refrigerator, and a dishwasher. The staff member was informative and encouraging. She knew her options well.

I have toured Gibson Gardens. It's a nice place. I liked them. It's perfect for somebody that would like to buy some meals occasionally but also could cook themselves. It's just very friendly, clean, safe, and secure. You don't have to worry about people getting in off the street or anything like that. They had small apartments. They have a bus that goes and does all kinds of stuff. The staff was nice.

I toured Gibson Gardens. It was very nice. Food-wise, they have a complimentary continental breakfast and then an evening meal for $15 a meal, which is quite reasonable. I thought each room was very spacious. They did not have studios, but they have one-bedrooms and two-bedrooms. Each two-bedroom has a bath and a half, and one bathroom is ADA-compliant. In the single bedroom, the bath is what they call a half bath, a step-in bath, like a cut-out bath. Every room has its own screened-in balcony and every apartment has a fireplace. Beautifully appointed. Gibson Gardens is very friendly and very accomplished. Lots of people were on maintenance everywhere, and when I was at other locations, I could not find a single person anywhere. So it's rather interesting that way but it was great. The downside was that you had to pay for your own electricity, and they did not have air conditioning. The outdoors is magnificent. It's like, I told my daughters, that would be a great place to go have a picnic in the front yard. It's beautifully landscaped, gorgeously kind of private. But because the building is built in a U-shape, like a horseshoe, and so it was really beautiful that way. The building's layout was kind of on a hill. So the hallway, every so often you really have a slope going up, and then you go around the corner, and then the other side of the building slopes down. The hallways are quite wide, very spacious, and very, very clean. The only thing I have against Gibson Gardens is the price. They're just too high and all the nickel and dime things that you have thrown in. The staff was very friendly, and very accommodating as long as they thought they could get you hooked in. Once they figured out that you were not going to be there, they became very cold, like, we don't have time for this. And she then freely admitted to me at one point that if they get frustrated, they get Nerf guns and shoot other staff members. I thought that's interesting for them to say that.

My tour of Gibson Gardens was good. It was only four stories high; personally, I didn't like that. The unit that I saw was nice. It just seemed kind of impersonal. It was the actual physical structure of the place that didn't appeal to me. What I liked about it was it was close to a high school where they said people walk on the grounds. I wanted something where I could get out, walk, and be outside. I didn't see that many opportunities in that particular place. It was a nice neighborhood up the hill because I drove round, and it would have been an OK neighborhood to walk around. There was a senior center about a block away. I had visited there a few years ago for a gathering for seniors. It was nice it was there. The unit that the staff showed me was big, and I liked it. I thought it was spacious. I liked that the balcony had a screen around it. If I did bring my cats, there would be no chance of them falling off the balcony or anything. The courtyard was beautiful. It was really nicely put together. The staff was OK, but they didn't have masks on. It was definitely a turnoff for me. There were other people in there who were older, and they were obviously vulnerable to Covid. I felt like that was not a good thing. They seemed friendly.
