We had my mother-in-law in Northgate Retirement Community, but she was not happy there so we brought her back home. It was too expensive. At first, because of the virus, they checked on her every two hours, but after that she had to take care of herself. I could tell it was an older building, but they're doing a bunch of remodeling right now. The rooms were OK. The way it was set up in the bathroom made it more of a handicapped room.
When we were there, we took her up to her apartment and that was the only time I had a chance to take a look at it. In my opinion, her apartment is an older style apartment, but they're remodeling those units right now. They had nice appliances, but my mother-in-law doesn't use a stove. She uses a microwave to cook, but they didn't have one of those. The staff members were nice and very courteous.

I visited this facility
I almost moved to Brookdale Northgate. The rooms were not that nice, and they did not have showers in all the rooms. They were also not kept up that well. They said they are going to do some remodeling, but I don't know how long that would take.

Many staff members are kind, but billing practices are confusing at best, and errors are difficult to correct. Supervising nursing staff also do not seem well trained in working with people with dementia.

I visited this facility
Brookdale Northgate was even older than the other place. I wasn't impressed with the units at all because everything had been painted over and over, they had old baseboards, and the wirings for the cable were messy. The managing director was excellent. She was very helpful and very friendly. I am not that familiar with their location, but I know it is not far from Northgate Mall either. They had transportation, once a week laundry, and a lot of different activities. They had shopping trips for groceries, the drugstore, and things like that. The grounds were well-kept. The one thing they did do was they paid for my taxi to get there. The functionality was poor because of the baseboard heat. There was no smell, and I think they had just replaced their carpet and drapes about three years ago or something like that.

I visited this facility
I visited Emeritus at Northgate. The staff's work attitude was very good. They seemed to be very nice. The rooms and apartments were nice and clean. The dining room was very nice. The food looked good. As far as activities, at the time of the visit, they were getting ready to have some sort of an outing. The residents seemed to be happy.

My visit with Emeritus was fine. It was homey and clean. I didn't try the food, but I saw the menu. It seemed more than adequate. The dining room wasn't crowded. I thought the rooms were okay. The staff was very kind and open. They had group activities that seemed to be appealing, and the price was good.

Emeritus at Northgate is a nice place. They have a nice staff. They are very friendly. They really took good care of my mom. It’s a very clean place. They are very conscientious and friendly. I would recommend this facility.

I visited this facility
Emeritus is kind of old and it looked like it needed a little bit of updating. The rooms were small and the parking was a bit of a challenge for people to come and visit. Those were some of the things that were a problem. We ate there, the food was good. The people were really nice, it was clean. I wouldn't move there if I was looking for a place.
