Memory Care Reviews for Orchard Point

I am a friend or relative of a current/past resident
My husband was at Orchard Point, and then they had to have him sent to the hospital because he was being too combative and was hitting other residents. The staff seemed nice, but it turned out they were not very honest or upfront with us. When he went to the hospital, I asked if we should come and get his things and take them home, and they said, "No, just leave them here because he'll be coming back." Then we came to find out a couple of weeks later that they had told the hospital they didn't want him back and that we had to go and get his things. They didn't clue us in to any of these, and they just did it behind our back, so none of our family was happy about it. Also, every time we tried to contact them by phone or email, they would not respond.
We were not allowed inside, and we weren't able to see activities, but they said they did. The grounds and the lobby area looked nice enough, and they had a little pond there with some shrubberies and things around it, but that's about all that I can remember. We saw a small lobby and a small garden area in front of the building. They looked OK, but that's all we saw.
One thing that really irritated me was that we didn't know about the increased amount it would cost for the level of care until we actually got in there with them. They didn't mention it at all when they came to our home for the assessment, so we were kind of shocked that it was an extra $2,000. We didn't think that they really communicated as well as they should have with us. They also led us to believe that they could handle any situation and that we shouldn't worry. We had told them my husband could be combative, and they said, "Don't worry. We're used to that. We can handle anything," but it turns out they couldn't.

I got my mom placed in Orchard Pointe. When I got their paperwork they said that they were private pay for three years and I kind of moved on. Then all of a sudden they called me to say that they were sending a nurse to evaluate my mom. Then they came and told me they would take her in, and now she's in transition. I also already talked to them in the past, and they were very informative and very upfront with me. They said that they didn't have any Medicaid at the moment, but they would put my mom on a list and keep her in mind. Out of the blue, once they got a bed, they stepped up and told us that they'd take her. They were wonderful, they were fast, they did an assessment, and they loved her. They've just been wonderful to my mom. Right now how they're doing things is just awesome. They're all over it in helping us and answering our questions. I would rate them a five right now, because even just during the preliminary meetings, the information, and every visit, they always let me know everything. I appreciate that there are no surprises. They tell me what they're going to do, the care they're going to give her, what I should provide and do, and so on. It's been great. On her first day she was going through some aggressive behavior, and they handled it. They let her do what she needed to do. They were wonderful with her, and they have been fabulous. When I called to get an update the chief nurse was there. She told me that mom has been great, she gave me a rundown, and told me they're there to take care of her and I can call anytime. I appreciate that, so that's awesome. I haven't tried the food, but my mom has been eating it. That's good because she hasn't been eating the hospital food. The atmosphere is really awesome, the staff is just friendly, and welcoming. Like if the residents are watching TV there's staff members checking in on them, or even participating with them. The residents would walk around and say hi and ask about your day. It was very welcoming, friendly, and comfortable. They have activities every day, they have a calendar I can download and look at to see the activities. Once in a while they might plan something outside the community; something that's simple and easy. There's always something happening every day. My mom could use the interactions and I am impressed by that. It's private pay, but they have a Medicaid bed and that's why then could take mom in. The cost is right. It's spot-on.

Thank you Ocie for taking the time to write about your experience in our community. We are so glad we were able to accomodate your mother, and that you feel she is comfortable and cared for in our community (and has gotten her appetite back)! We look forward to continuing to help your family during this transition and beyond. We will pass your kind words onto our deserving staff.

I was impressed with everything at Orchard Pointe Memory Care. Christie and Melissa -- whom we've been dealing with -- are very nice, and I like the community very much. The staff is very accommodating, nice, and they treat you well; they talked to me like I was a good friend. My husband had a meal there and he said it was pretty good. I liked the atmosphere of the place, and I also liked the outdoors. I think it's a good idea that they have community dogs because it's important for the people. There was a little bit of an altercation in the hallway, and three staff members took care of it right away.

Orchard Pointe Memory Care was small and didn't have that many things, but the staff was really nice. The residents had their own, nice rooms. When we went through the secure door, it smelled bad. They had activities for the residents to keep them engaged, though it's hard to keep them engaged because they were looking at the walls and didn't know who they were. They needed more staff.

Orchard Pointe was nice, large, and open. It was very expensive. The staff was nice, and everybody was polite. The dining area looked clean. We weren’t there too long, but nothing was wrong with the place.

Orchard Pointe was nice. It was an older place, but the rooms were nice. The staff was nice, very friendly, and actively engaged with the clients.

I’ve been to Orchard Pointe Apartments three different times. They had a Halloween party one time I was there. The hallways are kind of narrow, the rooms are smaller than some of the other ones I've seen, but they have a memory care center, which is what we're looking for; my wife has dementia, and they specialize in memory care. The people that I talked to seemed very friendly and very cooperative, so I was pleased with that.

After a REALLY bad experience in another memory care facility, we were very happy to have found Orchard Poine. The staff are caring, friendly, sensitive and professional. I have already recommended them to others.
