I visited this facility

We went to Commonwealth Senior Living at Williamsburg for independent living and it was a positive experience. My father-in-law probably would have signed the contract but when we went back, they twisted it and told him he had to go to assisted living. That just totally soured us on the facility. My wife was with me and she's far more good at noticing things, and she didn't feel that it's a level of maintenance. She found several things, like loose cabinet doors and things in the apartments. She didn't think the facility was comparable to some of the others we were in. There were no bottom-floor apartments, which was not something my father-in-law was interested in and they seemed to be darker and less open than some of the others we visited. They had nice people, though.

I visited this facility

I went to visit Commonwealth Senior Living at Williamsburg. I met with a staff member who was very knowledgeable, pleasant, and very good to deal with. She answered all of my questions, provided me with all the information, and asked appropriate questions of me, so she understood exactly what I was looking for. I've been through the dining areas, the areas where the activities are, and the beauty parlor. The upkeep of the place is very well-kept.

I visited this facility

We toured Commonwealth Senior Living at Williamsburg. It was very nice. The staff were very helpful and nice, but they weren't quite as thorough as the tour staff from the other place. But they still were really good about giving us information when we asked for it. The living atmosphere was nice. It's worth considering for your relative. It looks like they take good care of their people there.

I am a friend or relative of a current/past resident

My friend has moved into Commonwealth Senior Living at Williamsburg. I've seen the menus, but he has not gotten to take advantage of that yet, which is pretty upsetting. I guess it would take a little bit of time to get adjusted. Anyway, I spoke with a lady yesterday on the elevator and asked her how long she'd been there, and she said six years. I asked her if she likes it there and she said, "I wouldn't have been here for six years if I didn't." My friend is not partaking in any of the activities yet. All prices are high. The room that he's in right now is a smaller independent living room than a lot of the other rooms are. With him continuing to stay there, he is on the next move-in list if another room becomes available that he could move up into a larger apartment.

My friend has moved into Commonwealth Senior Living at Williamsburg. We were very pleased with them. They were very courteous and kind. The facility is excellent. It is well-maintained and well-staffed. My friend has a private room there that is very nice. It has all the memory care facilities necessary for her. They have shared rooms, too. They have an outside garden area. They have different activities that would inspire each individual person. There are activities for painting and drawing. There are games, puzzles, and group activities as well. For their individual rooms, they have memory boxes by their door to assist them in finding their own personal rooms. Of course, they have 24-7 care. You can be there and visit within that 24-7. They have lots of different activities for the people there. In terms of the monthly fee, it's comparable to everyone else.

I visited this facility

We went to Commonwealth Senior Living at Williamsburg and we liked it. The lady who gave us the tour was wonderful. She was very accommodating. The staff seemed very good, but the common area for the memory care residents seemed very cramped and crowded. I didn't like the way it was set up. The dining room was lovely. They had either a single room or they had doubles with sharing a bathroom. In the bathroom, the tub area was raised and we thought that that would not be as accommodating as one that has a flat walk-in shower because you'd have to step up to get into the tub. We didn't like that and we didn't like having to share a bathroom. Outside the dining room, they had a list of activities for the month. They had themes for the month. Their theme was Castles of the World, so they were doing virtual tours of the castles in different countries every month. They seemed very organized with all of that. They had outings. For veterans, once you've got a price, it would not go up. That was their salute or thank you to the veterans, and I liked that very much.

Commonwealth Senior Living at Williamsburg was nice, but their pricing was higher and I didn't like the way that they structured it. It made me have to calculate things. The rooms would be a little bit too small for both my parents, but outside of that, they were nice and accommodating. The facilities were nice, too. They have tons of activities. Every day they got activities going on.

We looked at Commonwealth Senior Living at Williamsburg. I like the whole thing. It was clean and it had a lot of activities. The staff was very nice. They were all very nice and very friendly, all of them seemed to be. The food looked good. We got a great big cookie that was delicious. The facilities are great; it is just a larger facility that's all. I kind of like the smaller one a little bit better.

Provider Response

I visited this facility

I'm leaning towards Commonwealth Senior Living at Williamsburg. They have large apartments, which is what I like, and I also like the activities that they had to offer. I like how do they have arranged the floors that the independent living is on, and their club is nice. The people are extremely nice. The staff is very, very nice, and Kelly, who took me on the tour, was extremely knowledgeable and very helpful. I'm getting a one-bedroom, but it has a big living room, a big bedroom, a nice master bath, and a nice kitchen. They've got everything you need in the kitchen. You can cook your own meals today if you wanted to.

Provider Response

Dear Janie, We are so happy to hear that you have enjoyed your time visiting our community and feel it may be the right fit for you. I’m so happy to hear that Kelly has been helpful. I visited this facility

I toured Commonwealth Senior Living at Williamsburg and they're amazing. They are wonderful. The thing I liked about them is they reached out to me around Covid time and were trying to figure out if I had what I wanted. They said they could drop off a package for me here. They were telling me they could bring me something. I thought that was nice of them, even though I did not agree to move there as yet.; they would have been on my list. Their facility is extremely clean. They have a lot of activities as well. They always invite me to come for dinner so many times or there were times when they had different events like festivities, and they would invite me to come. I didn't get to go to any of those. She had invited me to come to lunch with her because I love Cracker Barrel and she wanted me to come to the Cracker Barrel or come to them and have lunch. They are very accommodating. Their apartments are not bad at all. The rooms are medium size, and they're not very small. The staff was wonderful and very, very nice. She calls me all the time. She called me last week.

Provider Response

Dear Wendy, Thank you so much for taking the time to share your experience with us. I’m happy to hear that you are developing a good relationship with our community. Our door is always open, and we will continue to invite you to our events. Please let us know when you are free to meet some of our residents. I think you might like to hear what made them choose our community. We hope to hear from you soon! Best, Patti Fitz Executive Director

I am/was a resident of this facility

I moved into Commonwealth Senior Living at Williamsburg. They've been very cooperative. They helped me move in. The breakfast menu is very minimal, but the food is OK, and there's a variety. I like the atmosphere. It's a little close to the railroad tracks, but you can get used to that. The staff has been very accommodating and has helped me a lot. They have movies, bingo, and they take people out to different restaurants every week. It's a good place for a good value. One of the drawbacks is they don't have covered parking, and the parking lot is quite full, so you have to hunt for a parking spot quite often.

I am a friend or relative of a current/past resident

I visited Commonwealth Senior Living at Williamsburg, we thought it was fantastic, and we ended up moving my mother there. The staff is very professional, caring, they have many scheduled activities each day, and they take the residents on field trips each week. It's really spectacular. I can't say enough about it. The have a very good staff ratio, they went out of their way to assist her during her transition, and they even hired an extra staff member for 72 hours to be with her during the transition period. The staff work as a group, there are several checks and balances to make sure everything is done professionally, and all the activities and goings on are as advertised. It's very expensive, but it was actually cheaper than the other places we looked at.

I am/was a resident of this facility

The basic reason we chose Commonwealth Senior Living at Williamsburg over a couple of other places is because they'd provide care for my wife if she progresses with her illness through the end. The food is good, but not exceptional. The staff is caring and compassionate, but they're understaffed. My wife requires two people to transfer her and there is not always two people available readily, but they're hiring new staff members and we're optimistic about the future.

I am a friend or relative of a current/past resident

Commonwealth Senior Living at Williamsburg is pretty good and things are going pretty well for my sister. It's really clean and we like the size of my sister's unit. It has a larger kitchen than most, a different entryway, and has just been re-carpeted and repainted. We liked the idea of having out meals provided. Most of the people are older than my sister, but she's pretty happy there. They have Bible study, Bingo, Happy Hour, and cakewalks. My sister also works out in wheelchair aerobics. They have a vehicle that can take them to doctors' appointments on Tuesdays and Thursdays. I like the dining area because the independent people eat in a different place from the assisted living residents. The food is good and my sister likes it. They don't serve lunch, but they take them out for lunch every once in a while, and they take them to the grocery stores where they can buy food for their noontime meal. They eat dinner between 4:30 and 6:00. The independent living area is immaculate and very clean.

I am a friend or relative of a current/past resident

The room size at Commonwealth Senior Living at Williamsburg is very nice. It’s right about 750 to 800 sq ft. It had a living room, a little kitchenette, and a bedroom. They renovated the entire second floor for assisted living, so everything is new. The drywall and electrical works are new. Plumbing, flooring, and all the finishes are new, so it’s like moving into a new facility. The nursing staff is great. I’m still getting to know the executive director, but the lady who leads their sales department and also their chief nurse were just great. The food there is excellent. They have a farm to table and a bay to table program, so the produce is all grown locally and brought in from local farms. The bay to table is basically anything that’s caught in the local rivers or the Chesapeake Bay, so it’s all fresh fish. Commonwealth Senior Living at Williamsburg is cheaper than the facility my mother just moved out of. The other ones we looked at in Williamsburg were comparable, if not, more expensive in price, but they didn’t have the type of food menu or the attention that I see her getting right now.

I visited this facility

It looked like they offered everything. They checked on the patients in the evening and middle of the night to make sure they were OK and made sure they took their pills. They bathed them if they needed assistance, provided food and laundry service, and handled diabetic insulin shots. It was full service and beautiful, too. It was everything we were looking for, but we were just not ready. They could improve on the price since it was unbelievably expensive, but it was priced the same everywhere else. They were very kind and seemed like that they had a lot of people working there that had been there for a really long time, which pleased me.
