Some staff are slow to respond or not at all. There were times I would ring the call bell and no one would respond. Some staff (CNA) totally ignored my loved one. Some of the CNA’s who were assigned to my loved one would walk past the room and not check to see is they needed anything. I would sit up to 4 hours and not know who was assigned to their room. I would not send my loved there.

Westport Health Center was like the kiss of death. It was disgusting, and understaffed, which isn't the nurse's fault. But they were extremely understaffed and extremely slow to respond. I have nothing nice to say about it. The food was not very appetizing, at least what was brought to the room. There may have been a dining facility, but my father was in his bed the whole time.

If you are reading this review and/or considering placing yourself (or your loved one) in this facility --- RUN! while you still can. Please do not go through the same heartache that we had to experience placing my father here. Our nightmare started when my father was being discharged from a local hospital during the holiday. Unfortunately, because my father had COVID this was the ONLY facility in Richmond that would take a COVID patient. (Could not take him home because the entire family had COVID. Also, could not visit him for eleven days from the date of onset of a positive COVID test). When I began researching where the hospital was going to discharge my father – I begged the case manager to please not discharge him to Westport. The number of violations the facility had on the Virginia Department of Health website was disheartening (please do the research yourself). I browsed again today and Westport had another surprise visit with more complaints that were “founded” back in January 2023. Upon admission, the discharge summary from the hospital showed my father as non-ambulatory, unable to feed or drink (this is what is called a “feeder” a patient unable to feed themselves), he could not communicate well and was extremely weak. Trying to call and can updates from this facility were impossible. Imagine trying to call during the Christmas holiday! Zero communication. I was calling frantically trying to get information on how he was doing, etc. After 24 hours, I finally got a supervisor on the phone who put me in touch with the floor nurse. I was told my father had fallen out of bed but there were no apparent injuries. Excuse me! The family is supposed to be notified when a patient falls out of bed. My dad’s chart stated he was a fall risk however no safety parameters were put in place to prevent this from happening after the first fall. Fast forward 6 days later I received a call from Westport that my father had fallen again out of bed – this time however he was heading in an ambulance back to the hospital. I cannot post the photos here because they are way too graphic. My dad looked as though he had been in a combat zone. He was covered in blood – huge knot on his head, his arms, knees and legs had open wounds and the worst of all – my poor father had bloody open wounds in his mouth and a massive hematoma on his right side. Dad could no longer communicate and tell me what had happened to him. I have to live with this horrific image in my mind for the rest of my life. Prior to his arrival to Westport, he was “stable” enough medically otherwise they would not have admitted him as a patient. The emergency room physician stated dad needed to be referred to hospice (He had declined rapidly. Do not want to share too much medically because of the graphic information). I cannot imagine the pain he went though with the number of injuries he sustained falling out of that bed AGAIN! My father died seven days after being admitted to this facility. PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE – DO NOT PLACE YOUR LOVED ONE HERE! I do not care what any of these other reviews are stating that this place is great, etc., – READ THE VIOLATIONS on the Virginia Department of Health website. Make your own informative decision. Just know I took the time to warn you. RUN!

This facility is a HORROR SHOW, starting with the rank smell that hits you as soon as you go down the hall. The staff are uncaring, and apathetic. My father-in-law spent his final days prior to death in this facility and suffered GREATLY. He could not ambulate, speak or drink on his own and he was left to fall out of bed twice. By the time the ambulance transported him back to St Mary's it was hospice bound. I cannot say with more conviction in words to be VERY cautious about this facility. Other residents were calling out for help and my human reaction was to give help. I tried to tell the staff and they told me not to be concerned. Months after my loved ones passing, I am still haunted by the experiences I had while in the building. Negative stars not possible but warranted.

The Good, Bad & Ugly My wife needed rehab after extensive leg surgery. I visited, they had a good gym & promised 3 hours of PT & OT a day. She may have gotten 2 hours one day. The Ugly started after we arrived at night. She had a high level of pain and they told her they could not give her the prescribed pain med, the pharmacy was closed until the morning. Fortunately my wife had the surgeon's cell number and called him. I was able to go get some so I could to give to her then and another dose for her next scheduled dose since the pharmacy would only be open after the 2nd scheduled dose. Someone took the second dose from her in the night. One night they made her and her roommate go out in the hall because they were spraying rooms. They did not spray her room. This is indicative of other bad experiences that I do not have space to write about. There are some good people working there. But communication between levels of people is horrible. One person says one thing and someone later says that is not correct. Food was so-so. They are understaffed for aides. After 1.5 hrs in a wet bed my wife called saying "Get me out of here." For her mental health, I did. Better management , better intercommunication & more staff are all badly needed.

If I could load pictures you would see pictures of dried feces on wall. They served my mother same lunch and dinner for 7days in row. All the disciplines assessments were done as if they might be interested on her. BUT NO ONE EVER RETURN TO OFFER THOSE SERVICES. REHAB CAME ONCE AT INITAL VISIT AND NEVER RETURN. CNA was rude and on phone in front of me. How would see act when I was not present. MOTHER WAS ALWAYS IN WET BRIEF WHEN I ARRIVED. Wound care nurse was knowledgeable. Promise of air mattress but never arrived. If you have an elderly parent. Get them out.
