Some staff are slow to respond or not at all. There were times I would ring the call bell and no one would respond. Some staff (CNA) totally ignored my loved one. Some of the CNA’s who were assigned to my loved one would walk past the room and not check to see is they needed anything. I would sit up to 4 hours and not know who was assigned to their room. I would not send my loved there.

Westport Health Center was like the kiss of death. It was disgusting, and understaffed, which isn't the nurse's fault. But they were extremely understaffed and extremely slow to respond. I have nothing nice to say about it. The food was not very appetizing, at least what was brought to the room. There may have been a dining facility, but my father was in his bed the whole time.

If you are reading this review and/or considering placing yourself (or your loved one) in this facility --- RUN! while you still can. Please do not go through the same heartache that we had to experience placing my father here. Our nightmare started when my father was being discharged from a local hospital during the holiday. Unfortunately, because my father had COVID this was the ONLY facility in Richmond that would take a COVID patient. (Could not take him home because the entire family had COVID. Also, could not visit him for eleven days from the date of onset of a positive COVID test). When I began researching where the hospital was going to discharge my father – I begged the case manager to please not discharge him to Westport. The number of violations the facility had on the Virginia Department of Health website was disheartening (please do the research yourself). I browsed again today and Westport had another surprise visit with more complaints that were “founded” back in January 2023. Upon admission, the discharge summary from the hospital showed my father as non-ambulatory, unable to feed or drink (this is what is called a “feeder” a patient unable to feed themselves), he could not communicate well and was extremely weak. Trying to call and can updates from this facility were impossible. Imagine trying to call during the Christmas holiday! Zero communication. I was calling frantically trying to get information on how he was doing, etc. After 24 hours, I finally got a supervisor on the phone who put me in touch with the floor nurse. I was told my father had fallen out of bed but there were no apparent injuries. Excuse me! The family is supposed to be notified when a patient falls out of bed. My dad’s chart stated he was a fall risk however no safety parameters were put in place to prevent this from happening after the first fall. Fast forward 6 days later I received a call from Westport that my father had fallen again out of bed – this time however he was heading in an ambulance back to the hospital. I cannot post the photos here because they are way too graphic. My dad looked as though he had been in a combat zone. He was covered in blood – huge knot on his head, his arms, knees and legs had open wounds and the worst of all – my poor father had bloody open wounds in his mouth and a massive hematoma on his right side. Dad could no longer communicate and tell me what had happened to him. I have to live with this horrific image in my mind for the rest of my life. Prior to his arrival to Westport, he was “stable” enough medically otherwise they would not have admitted him as a patient. The emergency room physician stated dad needed to be referred to hospice (He had declined rapidly. Do not want to share too much medically because of the graphic information). I cannot imagine the pain he went though with the number of injuries he sustained falling out of that bed AGAIN! My father died seven days after being admitted to this facility. PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE – DO NOT PLACE YOUR LOVED ONE HERE! I do not care what any of these other reviews are stating that this place is great, etc., – READ THE VIOLATIONS on the Virginia Department of Health website. Make your own informative decision. Just know I took the time to warn you. RUN!

This facility is a HORROR SHOW, starting with the rank smell that hits you as soon as you go down the hall. The staff are uncaring, and apathetic. My father-in-law spent his final days prior to death in this facility and suffered GREATLY. He could not ambulate, speak or drink on his own and he was left to fall out of bed twice. By the time the ambulance transported him back to St Mary's it was hospice bound. I cannot say with more conviction in words to be VERY cautious about this facility. Other residents were calling out for help and my human reaction was to give help. I tried to tell the staff and they told me not to be concerned. Months after my loved ones passing, I am still haunted by the experiences I had while in the building. Negative stars not possible but warranted.

The Good, Bad & Ugly My wife needed rehab after extensive leg surgery. I visited, they had a good gym & promised 3 hours of PT & OT a day. She may have gotten 2 hours one day. The Ugly started after we arrived at night. She had a high level of pain and they told her they could not give her the prescribed pain med, the pharmacy was closed until the morning. Fortunately my wife had the surgeon's cell number and called him. I was able to go get some so I could to give to her then and another dose for her next scheduled dose since the pharmacy would only be open after the 2nd scheduled dose. Someone took the second dose from her in the night. One night they made her and her roommate go out in the hall because they were spraying rooms. They did not spray her room. This is indicative of other bad experiences that I do not have space to write about. There are some good people working there. But communication between levels of people is horrible. One person says one thing and someone later says that is not correct. Food was so-so. They are understaffed for aides. After 1.5 hrs in a wet bed my wife called saying "Get me out of here." For her mental health, I did. Better management , better intercommunication & more staff are all badly needed.

If I could load pictures you would see pictures of dried feces on wall. They served my mother same lunch and dinner for 7days in row. All the disciplines assessments were done as if they might be interested on her. BUT NO ONE EVER RETURN TO OFFER THOSE SERVICES. REHAB CAME ONCE AT INITAL VISIT AND NEVER RETURN. CNA was rude and on phone in front of me. How would see act when I was not present. MOTHER WAS ALWAYS IN WET BRIEF WHEN I ARRIVED. Wound care nurse was knowledgeable. Promise of air mattress but never arrived. If you have an elderly parent. Get them out.

I do not recommend Westport to anyone! After less than 48 hours at Westport, my husband was transferred today to another rehab facility. He was at Westport for physical therapy and rehab following surgery for a hip fracture. During the 40 or so hours he was there, he and /or I observed or experienced a patient wandering outside the facility from the waist down except for a diaper, a lack of courtesy to patients and family, mistakes regarding medication and appointments outside the facility. After being contacted by the practice that did his surgery, Westport attempted to convince him to stay. He repeatedly stated that he wished to leave, and he left as soon as his transfer paperwork was complete. I do not recommend this facility to anyone.

My father was a at this facility up until yesterday. I am begging anyone who is thinking about sending their love one here please do NOT. My dad came to this facility for short term care because he had a small wound on his back side. They advertise that they have wound care when they do not at all. my father was here for only 3 weeks and in that time frame he now has 5 wounds on his body. the people at this facility shouldn't even be taken care of a dog let alone a human being. no one answers the phones in this facility. we were able to get a cell phone in to my dad so that we could talk to him. he would have his own waste on him for hours and sometime over night because no one would come change him after calling the nurses over and over. my family had to call a ambulance service to get him out of this place and have him take to another HOSPITAL because now he has a UTI and his wounds are now infected because of this place. this place needs to be shut down and the hospital he is now at has already got Adult Protective Services involved to report this place. once again if you send your family member here they may not make it out. Just a side not when we were able to get someone in management on the phone we told them more than one time what was going on and nothing was done about it.

I am/was a resident of this facility

Rooms were terrible with no one answering calls for assistance for bed pan, LEAVING you to wet yourself. I would have died in this facility if my husband & daughter hadn't removed me FOR HOME care. I wouldn't recommend this facility to ANYONE LEAVING a love one there. This place SHOULD LOOSE their license.

This place is terrible! I was hired through a agency to come watch some of the patients who need extra help (Companion basically )due to a nursing home not being able to care for those who really need attention. One of the nurses claimed I don’t do anything but it’s her job to give meds and change the patients in general. She kept nagging and disrespecting my client by lifting her the wrong way. I wouldn’t recommend this foul place. They need to be evaluated. It’s evident they hire anyone.

This place is a dump. Smells like urine when u walk in door. Understaffed. My stage IV father was there for rehab. They did not respond to buzzer- he would have to call switchboard to get help for a bedpan. Then left in urine and feces when had accident. Facility doctor is HORRIBLE!!!! Misdiagnosed gout in father's knee, would not put compression cuffs on father's legs. We Ended up having transported to hospital- had to have knee drained and father had blood clots in both legs that required having an IVC filter put in to prevent clots going to brain, heart or lungs. Wouldn't give appetite enhancer or high calorie supplement (per oncologist) to battle weight loss and loss of appetite. Food horrible. No door on bathroom in room, when we asked about lift for toilet seat said we could bring one in. Ended up having to hire care to sit in room 24/7 to care for him. Facility did not want to leave bedpan, wipes or cleaner in room. DO NOT leave your loved ones here!

I visited this facility

This is a lovely place, but the working staff needs to learn how to be friendly and caring. When visiting my mom last week, she needed help and I pushed the call button twice and no response. On the third push, finally a voice answered. What happens when the patient is in serious trouble and no one is there with them. This was very alarming. I totally agree with the other review that there's too much noise in the hallway and the staff has too much time on their hands. The food tray are never delivered on time and the food is cold 95% of the time.

The food cart is left sitting in the hall for at least 45 mins. until the trays are passed out and, of course, the food is cold by then. The dementia patients are mixed in with other patients and every time they get "loose" really annoying bells go off. They have wandered into my parent's room as well. They fill the ice water pitchers at 4:30 in the morning from a cart that rattles all the way down the hall. The bathrooms are not compliant with ADA regulations. They often seem under staffed. The only positive thing about this place is the PT/OT department which really does good work.

I visited this facility

The administrator is dynamic and involved. The environment is very clean and fresh. There is lots of activity and bustling energy. The rooms are a bit small compared to other facilities, but this one would be one of the top 2 of the 5 we've visited this weekend, with The Laurels being number 1.
