I think one of the things that makes Morningside West second floor, such a friendly place is because of one particular staff assistant named Jocelyn! She is so kind and efficient to each of the residents as well as their friends and families! She is a devoted employee

Provider Response

Alliew, thanks for your feedback on our team on the second floor -- and for your special recognition of Jocelyn! We were very happy to read that she makes you and everyone around her so warm, welcomed and comfortable.

I liked Morningside in the West End. Their prices were very value-oriented. I liked their head nurse, she was very knowledgeable. The rooms were on the small side, but still had plenty of space. The dining area was well-kept and clean, with plenty of space to get wheelchairs in and out of. They had a nice courtyard that they could go out into. Some of the rooms lead out to this courtyard. Some of their nurses had been there for 7 years, which is unheard of nowadays in these places.

Provider Response

Thanks Kathy! It was wonderful to read that you really liked what you saw of Morningside in the West End. We're glad that the value, the dining room and our lovely outdoor spaces all impressed you -- and we appreciate your shout out for our nursing team. Please let us know if you have additional questions, and we hope to see you again soon.

I am a friend or relative of a current/past resident

My parents moved into Morningside in the West End last Tuesday. All the staff that I've met thus far, I just had a good feeling about them, that they were going to take good care of my parents and they didn't appear to be lazy and like they weren't going to help them in any way if they needed help. I did have dinner with them the first night they moved in and just wanted to see what it was all about because sometimes they have to eat in a room, for some reason I don't know why, but the food was pretty good, I thought. I was impressed with the food. It's very nice and clean. I think the whole place is pretty nice. I love the back. I think what caught my eye when it gets warm is the back courtyard that's enclosed, that you can't escape from like if my dad were to wander back there, he couldn't get out. My mom's been very involved. She's played bingo, they've done puzzles and card games, they've done sing-alongs, and a karaoke- type atmosphere. They have exercise classes, they have entertainment that comes in and so far they do church service, I think every other Sunday. They're in a studio deluxe, and each has a twin bed. We're debating because we are on a waiting list to get a one-bedroom, I didn't realize that it could be another $1200 above, it's crazy. In their case(studio deluxe), it's only $900 extra a month. But then you have your extras like it's two hundred fifty dollars for the medicine management, and depending on what their level of care is, they might add a little bit more for that. So I do like the fact that the second person doesn't cost the exact same as the first where you got double your money.

This place is responsible for the death of my grandfather. He died from complications of Covid-19 in April. The LPNs/CNAs were NOT wearing masks when caring for him well into the pandemic, and who knows if they are wearing them now.

Morningside in the West End was nice, and the tour was nice and very informative. The memory care unit was on the smaller side and I wasn't quite comfortable with the setup. The rooms were down a long hall, and I just felt that if my mom was in her room it would be too far away from the attendants' station and all the activities, and I wasn't comfortable with that. The community itself was fine and it looked like it had everything that my mom is going to need. The people seemed pleasant and everybody seemed to know everybody else, so from that standpoint, it was fine. The staff was very helpful and open. It would probably just not fit what we were looking for for my mom.

My mother is in Morningside in the West End and it's been a positive experience. Her room is very clean and very nice, and the layout is good. I don't have any negative things to say. The staff is very accommodating. I've eaten with her and the food was fine. They have lots of activities. She has played bingo a couple of times, and they had a St. Patrick's Day celebration with live music and family was invited. They had really nice food and were really welcoming. They have different churches come in and different denominations to do Bible study, and art and exercise. The residents also have quite a bit of downtime, but they're hiring a new activities director.

Morningside at the West End was wonderful. I really liked it but two things happened that changed our mind. We wanted to make sure that my mom had a carpeted room, so I put a deposit on it saying my mom needs a carpeted room because she falls, but they went ahead and took out the carpet and put down flooring instead, so that upset my sisters. The room was OK. Also, the day my sisters showed up to tour with me, the director of sales had called in sick, so my sisters didn't get the full effect of her warm personality the way I had, so that kind of swayed their decision. They also thought it looked a little dingy. They did have a special program for memory care patients and a salon. They're very attentive and attuned to Alzheimer's patients and what they need. The staff is wonderful.

Morningside in the West End was nice, but it didn't look like a cheery place. They had a nice, little area in the middle that was outside and you could sit in. There was also an area with a stained glass window that was beautiful. Value-wise, I think it would work for my brother because they don't require a community fee to get in and their prices are more reasonable. I didn't really like their studio apartments because they seemed cramped. They had a lot of activities, I saw some for their activity rooms, and they were preparing to take the men to a baseball game. They have a chef that makes good food, and they have happy hour every Friday like 2:00 to 3:00. The person who gave me the tour was lovely.

We're quite happy with Morningside in the West End, but the expense is what is getting us now. My mother has been in there for four months now. The place is very clean, very modern, and up to most standards of what I would want for my parent. She's in a very nice location. The staff is excellent, and the food is good. The cost is the only thing that is a problem for us because she has adjusted well and the place is beautiful. She gets a little bit of money and the difference is approximately $3,600, which I have to come up with every month. Her room is more of an apartment. She's by herself and she has her own private bath, a microwave, and a small refrigerator.

My husband is in memory care at Morningside in the West End. The physical part of it is very nice. They have a pretty garden and a nice outside place for them to go. The food is good, but the aides could use more training with dementia patients. The rooms are all private with a bathroom. Everything is well kept and convenient. It has a good and comparable price.

My mother was at Morningside in the West End. It’s small, two floors, very nicely appointed, and a lot of the downstairs rooms opened to a beautiful courtyard. They were attentive, thorough, and did a good job. It was called the deluxe studio, which was just one room, and it was nice and small but had a kitchenette with a little refrigerator, a microwave, and a sink. The food was good. There’s a chef that’s been there for nine years who is very good, so there was a choice of menu items at each meal, and the food was hot, attractively presented, and tasty.

My mom lived at Morningside. One of our biggest reasons for choosing it was the person who spent time with us. She was just phenomenal, flexible, and really tried to work with our schedule. They had a beautiful courtyard in the middle, and the facility wrapped itself around it. They had everything you could think of there, like a nice activity department, church services, a salon, and a very nice dining room. I liked it because it was smaller and had two times that you could go for each meal. They also had a very small dining area for patients who were more advanced in memory care.

Morningside in the West End wasn't that big. It was just a two-storey building, and it was very nice and very clean. They had wide hallways, but I didn't really get that homey feeling from it. It was lunchtime, and there were a few people in the dining hall who were mostly asleep at the dining table. I didn't see any of the residents out doing anything. There were no activities going on at the time that I went by. The staff was very friendly, and all that I talked to were very nice. It was a good place; however, the feeling I got whether my uncle would be happy there would be a 4.

Morningside was really nice. The staff was very warm and friendly. They knew all the residents that we saw on the tour by name, so that was kind of nice. It was totally an assisted place. It was smaller, and the rooms were very smaller, but everything was really nice. I saw the dining area, and I saw some people eating. It looked like they had really good food. They provided transportation to doctors' appointments. The place was very nice. It was warm and inviting.

The people at Morningside in the West End were friendly when I visited. They spoke to all the residents. The facility looked nice and clean. This one had an outside yard that residents could go and sit outside, and that would be important to my dad when the weather gets better. They had planned activities also. Overall, I was impressed with it.

At Morningside in the West End, the staff was very helpful. It had a nice entrance with a piano and a foyer that we enjoyed, and the rooms were spacious. It was actually an upscale facility, and we felt that it offered more than what my father needed. The dining room was nice and homey. I thought it was an attractive and clean facility, and I liked the central courtyard that they had.

Morningside was a lovely community. I think by far, it had the most beautiful facilities. It was very clean and very updated. Their front office staff was very friendly; however, it bothered me that the sales coordinator didn't seem to greet any of the residents by name. I think he was more of an office person. I didn't get the feeling that everybody knew the residents and that's kind of important. I felt that was lacking. Also I felt like the feedback I had gotten from other people was not as positive. However, the facility was wonderful. The rooms were beautiful. The one they have that I have never seen before is that it is a two-story building and it is built in a square. There is a completely enclosed courtyard in the middle, so everybody has a view out their window. The downstairs units that are on the courtyard actually have a screened-in door that they can walk right outside the middle, but it is enclosed, they can't go anywhere else. That courtyard looked gorgeous.

We have an out-of-the-family guardian who selected Morningside for my father. This is a very conveniently located facility. The rooms were fine. The staff was very good. However, I would say that people should ask what we didn't ask - what the ratio of staff to the residents was. They have less staff on the weekends. My father is limited in mobility, so he doesn't participate in very many things, but he does go out to meals.

We chose this facility because of the combination of the location, layout of the facility and the staff. The food is very good. The staff, particularly the director of nursing and the director of the dementia unit where my father is, I was really impressed with both of them. He stayed in a room with a bed, dresser, chest of drawers, a few chairs, a closet and a bathroom. It's a little smaller than some of the other ones I looked at but it was clean and I didn't get a smell. Even though the other ones appeared to be clean, sometimes there would be an odor. It seems to be, on the number of residents that they have that they're a little short staffed and should have more staff available.

My personal experience with this facility was great. My Grandmother was placed in this home in 2010 and we hardly heard her complain. The staff was always very friendly and helpful. There were a few maintenance issues which I cannot recall anymore but I do remember they took a little longer than expected to be fixed. The nurses were great and really knew what they were talking about. My Grandmother liked it enough to stay for two years until relocating out of state.
