I have placed 6 out of catchment clients at this facility. One is completing her Associates Degree at a local community college, one is completing his GED, one is in a Peer Counselor program at RBHA, one is living independently. They have the best Dementia/Alzheimers unit in Central Virginia. They have the lowest attrition rate amongst these type facilities. They are very compassionate professionals.

I was checking out places for a resident and discovered the Madison house. I had visited 401 West Grace St., a Southside home on Forest Hill Avenue,,other adult homes further north on Chamberlain Avenue and one near carry court shopping center.. There is a dedicated and hard-working staff who manage to deal successfully with a lot of different types of people. Ms. Edna runs the place with an iron hand and sometimes substitutes for the cook. Some people would like a home with better facilities, locational advantages and less supervision. This is not for them. Smoking in the building is not tolerated and medications must be taken if required. The elevator is sometimes temperamental. The holes in the exit around the building have been filled, and it has been resurfaced. There are church services and activities for the residents if desired. Amazingly, I have never heard anyone complain about the food. That indicates an overall satisfaction. Everyplace has some faults and advantages. The folks pictured at the top of this page likely wouldn't pick this home but for others it would be the top choice.

This facility was the only facility that would accept my TBI client. They have a Psychologist and Psychiatrist on staff. They also have the only public Dementia/Alzheimer unit in central Virginia. I am a social worker in Tidewater and these folks are the best. Great food, professional staff and an eclectic taste of residents. They were quite diligent in making a smooth transition for my clients.I have placed (4) clients there and they actually accepted one pro bono. I strongly recommend this facility Tidewater CSB

Madison House is one facility that I wouldn't recommend to anybody. Everything is very low in my agenda, the parking lot, the place, etc. To me, the whole building, it was nice and clean, but my first impression when I walked in was that it was not organized. Their rooms were nice too. Most of their residents were out, so rooms were empty. They were also doing a thorough cleaning at that time. However, there was one lady resident there, when I stopped by, she begged me for money. That turned me off right there. I don't think when you go into this type of business that nobody needs to be trying to beg for money.
