I moved into Brookdale Imperial Plaza, and so far, it's been great. The place is clean, the staff is very polite and accommodating, and I liked it. I was impressed because it's well-kept, I have a studio, and it's very spacious. They have a shuttle bus, a medical transport bus, and an activity bus. They also have a grocery store here.

My aunt lived in independent living at Imperial Plaza for many years and had a wonderful experience. When it became necessary for her to move to assisted living, her experience changed dramatically in very unpleasant ways. Bathroom was not accessible for a walker or wheelchair based on assessment by OT (and by just looking at it), medications were dispensed inappropriately and communication between staff and with family was absolutely terrible. Very difficult to find anyone who knew what was going on with my aunt. No wonder there is so much staff turnover there. There were some wonderful staff people, but they are trapped in a disorganized, inferior situation that doesn't allow them to do their jobs properly. I would not recommend assisted living there for anyone. There are much better options for the same amount of money in Richmond.

I have moved into Brookdale Imperial Plaza. The view is gorgeous. I'm surrounded by huge trees. The folks are quite nice. They have all kinds of activities going on. This is a huge place, they have over 900 residents, and the staff members have so many people to take care of, but they're as always very nice. They are very kind and very helpful, but as I say, they have 900 people, so they're busy. They serve all 3 meals. They also have a bus, and for doctor's appointment, you have to pay $15.

I liked Brookdale Imperial Plaza, but the only room that they had available did not have a stove or a refrigerator. They cost the same as where I am living now. The staff was fantastic. The dining area was nice.

Brookdale was nice and large but too expensive. The person who took me on a tour was very nice, knowledgeable, and gave me a lot of insights about different programs that they had there. They took people out on outings and rides around the park daily. The place was nice and clean and in a good location. The hospital that my mom went to and another primary care physician were close to Brookdale. They had a lot of stores nearby. It was very convenient.

I had been to Brookdale Imperial Plaza many times and did not care for it at all. It was a misleading place as far as assisted living, and I was looking for assisted living. There weren't wheelchair accessible bathrooms, so the door had to be taken off so you could get in there with your wheelchair. In general, it was just not my idea of a place to live, especially for an elderly person. I thought they needed an inspection and to be told what the laws were in the State of Virginia to fix the place up. It was too old, and they were kind of working on it, but it was still just terrible. It was really unfriendly, and the staff had attitude. It had long halls to walk down, so it was more like going to a hotel somewhere and not designed for people to spend their last years there. It was not warm and comfy. I saw the one-bedroom and the studio with a private bath. They served three meals a day and had a bowl of fruit and drink machine for them to help themselves to.

Brookdale Imperial Plaza was one of the cheaper ones that I found. I have looked at others and they were just too expensive for me. They had very nice facilities, and you don't have to go outside because they have a post office, a bank, grocery store, and a restaurant inside the building. I like that because I don't have a car, but they do have a shuttle bus if you want to go to other places. They have both dependent and independent living, so if something happens and you have to be dependent, you can still stay there and switch. I ate there the day we went to visit and it was good. We went to tip the waiter, but they had a policy that none of them can accept tips.

Brookdale Imperial Plaza is a wonderful place. The staff is very cordial. They get to know the people. They work with them and make sure that everything is okay. I am very pleased with the way it is. My relative has an apartment, and it is very nice. I eat there. The food is good and delicious. They have all sorts of activities like bingo. They have a full calendar every month. They have a restaurant, bank, pharmacy, doctor's office, little grocery store, salon, and barber shop. It is like a community within a community.

The general appearance of Brookdale Imperial Tower is fine, and the housing is fine, but the nurses and the staff seem a little slow. They kind of do what they want to do. However, my sister is happy there. Her accommodation is fine. She likes it; it is a big campus, and she can walk around. They have music, concert, and things like that. Now, I think she is taking art class, so she does participate in the activities.

I visited Brookdale Imperial Plaza. It was a nice place. Everybody was really nice. They took me up to the fifth floor and showed me a nice room, which was like a loft. It was really nice. I like that too. They have a little bit of everything, and that's what I really enjoyed about the place. They had doctors, the post office, the dentist, a little store, and a place where you can get your hair cut. They had a little bit of everything. I was really impressed. I like to mess with flowers, I have a little small garden in the back, and they have a place where I could do my own gardening. They had activities going on, and that was very interesting. They would take you out to the grocery, and I also like that idea. They have like four or five buses.

The rooms were a little bit larger. I probably would've chosen Brookdale Imperial Plaza if the one we chose didn't work out. The rooms were larger than some, and the price seemed to be about right. The people had more privacy.

Imperial Plaza is a very lovely place. I like everything about this facility. I like the rooms. Every time a person moves out, they update the room. They have plenty of restaurants and they have grocery stores inside. They also have a lot of activities. The staff who assisted me was very nice and very informative. The residents were very friendly as well. I just wish they have more covered parking area because they do not have that. They have a few spaces, but it's very limited. The rest of them is open space parking and you can get wet if it's raining. But I think that is the only negative for me because the rest of it is nice. I also specially like the fact that I can rent and I do not have to buy into their food plan. And I am still capable of cooking and I like to cook.

I was very, very impressed with Imperial Plaza. They changed management, and many improvements have been made. I talked to one lady from the staff, and she was excellent; her name was Denise. My uncle just moved in to Imperial Plaza and so far it has been very good. It's a beautiful facility. We met residents there and everybody was very warm and very cordial. My uncle liked the facility a lot and I think he will have a good time in this facility. The staff knew everybody's name. They explained the meal package situation and they really had a nice-looking restaurant. They had a grill for grill time. They also have a little pub style where you can have a glass or wine or a hamburger which he love. They have a mini mart, a mini pharmacy, and a bank so he would really not have to go out.

Don't even bother wasting your time with this facility. It is poorly run. The managers don't care aboit the residents. They never call you back when you have concerns. The staff in Assisted Living is HORRIBLE! They curse and yell. They never respond when my loved one hit their call bell. They never changed her linens or her clothes. The management teams is the worst I have ever experienced. The only highlight was a companion that was very attentive to my loved one's needs. I am sorry I even considered this an option.

My father in law is in Imperial Plaza. There were multiple levels of service available, independent, assisted and nursing. There are amenities on the property like banking, a grocery store and it’s close to my home. They seem quite competent and helpful and he’s very happy. He has a larger than adequate one-bedroom apartment with a small kitchen and bath. He’s playing pool, poker and goes to the gym.

Imperial Plaza was an older facility but it was fine. It was clean and accommodating. Their activities were pretty much the same as with what the other facility had. I thought there were a lot of similarities at what they were doing. With regards to the residents that they have there, they seemed to have a younger population even though the facility was older. I would recommend this facility but they need to clarify exactly the age level that they are providing for even though there were some who were around my age.

I did check out Imperial Plaza through I had a tour with the staff there. It was a very nice facility; however, it was too big. It was a very big place. They have over 1100 residents and I think they have six buildings onsite. It did offer quite a bit. They provide daily activities, like different games, for their residents. The one thing that was very positive and good was that there was a lot of flexibility in terms of meal plans. You don't have to include all your meals and you can do ala carte. You can rent a studio or a one-bedroom or a two-bedroom but you don't necessarily have to have all the meals. You have that flexibility, so economically that's a good think for people who don't want to eat all three meals a day. They can choose what meal plans they want and that is a good feature. Also you can transition to another care level and you don't have to move again. They have a transition. So you can go into independent living to assisted living to memory, they're all in the same place and that is a good thing too.

Have to remove mother-in-law after 2 months due to severe bed bug infestation. Staff provides no care. A family member in the independent living area had to move due to a bedbug infestation, which started when a neighbor moved out. Belongings had to be trashed. This relative was traumatized by the situation. Do not put your loved one in Imperial Plaza. I rated it as one star only because it would not allow me to rate it a zero.

I picked Imperial Plaza for my mom because of proximity and I had prior knowledge of the place. The room was decent and they had multiple dining rooms which were very nice. They had food choices which seemed to be good. I tried the food and it was good; my mom also thought it was good. They had plenty of activities like bingo, travels, exercises and movies. I liked that everything was onsite like the drugstore, doctors, physical therapists, occupational therapists, etc. The place seemed to be quite clean and they tried to make it homey and friendly. I thought they could improve the application procedure and make it simpler, more straightforward. I would recommend this facility to others.

I visited Imperial Plaza once. It was a very, very nice place indeed. It had beautiful apartments, especially those that were in the new building. They had different styles of rooms, though they were all closed in. For activities, there were day trips and the like. The lady that showed me the apartments and handled the internet call was the sweetest and was absolutely wonderful. I had lunch with her when I was there so we did extensive talking. The food was also very good and professional served. It was simply excellent.

My Mother has lived in this facility for the last month. The staff were nice and friendly. The assistant living supervisor was unfriendly and very unaccomodating. She would not work with e or return my phone calls for a concern with y mother. We moved her out. This place might be good for independent but I would not suggest using it for assitant living.

My grandmother lived at this facility for about five years, and it was a delightful place to go visit her. The staff were very friendly to me, my family, and my grandmother. Activities were common, and there was a reliable shuttle to the grocery store so residents did not have to drive themselves or rely on family members. The outside areas for residents to spend time in were beautiful and well-kept. One thing these areas are known for are their population of albino squirrels, which are fun to watch! The dining areas were also very nice. There were three different rooms that one could eat in, two for more casual dining and one for formal dining. A hairdresser, doctor's office, and general store were also on site. All in all, it was a great community that included most amenities on site, making it very convenient for the residents. I would recommend it to anyone.

Imperial Plaza is an exceptional assisted living community located in the older and established Ginter Park neighborhood of Richmond, Virginia. Their campus consists of three high-rise buildings that are all connected through interior passageways, so residents can travel from building to building without leaving the climate-controlled environment. They are also affiliated with a nursing facility, so should a resident need more intense, specialized care, it is only a few steps away. Imperial Plaza offers personalized assisted living plans, which works well for the diversity of residents that live in the community. Although many of the residents are fully independent and are there for peace-of-mind, others need gentle reminders or assistance, which another part of their population requires more services. I toured Imperial Plaza on two separate occasions when I was looking for a place for my mother. Imperial Plaza was one of my top choices, although in the end, I went with a community that was smaller. Imperial Plaza operates as a little town. With a bank, post office, beauty salon, doctor and dentist offices, general store, theater, arts and crafts room, physical and occupational therapy and more, this community works best for those who have the ability to get around on their own, even if they are restricted to a walker or a wheelchair. The buildings are large with long hallways and even though they are interconnected, it takes time to get from one place to another. This is a consideration for those with limited mobility. Apartments are available as small studios to deluxe one and two-bedroom units, but those in the assisted living part are usually in the studios. There is a fully qualified nursing staff available to provide assistance, whether it is transferring from the bed to a wheelchair, or toileting help. Everyone seems nice and helpful, although I was concerned if they had enough employees to offer the level of help to all of the residents living there. Imperial Plaza has a robust calendar of activities to keep the residents occupied, ranging from square dancing demonstrations to antique appraisals and everything in between. When you walk through any of the corridors of Imperial Plaza, there are always residents on their way to some activity. Although there is a formal dining room where residents take their meals, Imperial Plaza also has a restaurant-style meal location where you can order from a menu (for an extra fee). It seems to be very popular. Although it's an older and larger assisted living community, Imperial Plaza has a good reputation and its fees are reasonable. But those choosing Imperial Plaza probably should be outgoing and self-confident going in, since it is so large. My mother would not have been happy there because it was so big. But I was impressed with how it operates and all of the amenities. It definitely is worth a look, as it is one of the premier assisted living communities in the greater Richmond area.

Imperial Plaza was not a very nice place. I didn't like it because as far as your laundry, you either had to go down the hall or you had to go down to the basement to do your laundry. They showed us a couple of rooms and the carpets were spotted. The stoves in the kitchen looked like something my grandmother would have had, so you just know how long ago that was. It just did not look like a very clean building. It was also old. I would not live there. The man who showed us around was okay. It looked like they had a lot of things to do. Truthfully, it did not give you a good impression. We were just more or less anxious to get out of there. I also don't think it's in a great community.

The sales team is amazing! And then it is impossible to get anyone to help you with anything once you have signed the contract. When my father was ill and then passed, I left 6 messages for various people in the accounting department. I got one call back who gave me her direct line and then never picked up or called back when I tried to reach her. I would get transferred around to multiple people and voicemails and sometimes just disconnected. Terrible customer service, especially during one of the toughest times.

My husband and I have lived here for about 3 years and for the money you can't find anything like this. We looked forever and never found anything. There are wonderful services available here. There is a doctors office on site and nurse practitioners that can come to your apartment if you cannot make it to the doctors office. The staff is very friendly as well as the residents. I recently moved to Imperial Plaza in the last few months and I am happy with my experience here thus far. Most of the staff is very friendly and helpful. I really like the variety of activities offered. Most places don't offer nearly as many activities as we have here. I also like the fact that there is assisted living here as well as a rehab in the community so that if my friends transition to different types of care I can still visit with them. Overall this is a nice place to live, everywhere you go can make improvements of course but I like what they can offer me here.

We went to Brookdale Imperial Plaza. We had a couple of meals there that were very good. The prices weren't great. They didn't seem to have a variety on the menu. It's a very large complex, spread out with several buildings. They had independent living, assisted living, and mental care in the same facility, but everybody eats in the same area from all the buildings and to get from most of the apartments to the dining area, you've got to take two elevators, which was inconvenient. They have corner units with a deck or patio on two sides of it, which we liked, but there were just too many things that we didn't like. They had a recreation room, a theater, barber shop, and a podiatrist. They seemed to have all the amenities, and everything we saw was very good, but the buildings were pretty old.

Brookdale Imperial Plaza is convenient to everything. There is a card playing group here and a knitting group. There is a movie every Tuesday and live entertainment in the auditorium every Monday. There is just something to do every single day. We have a dining room and two smaller places to eat, but you pay for your meals individually. I can sign up for transportation if I need to go to my doctor's appointment. Each building has a laundry room and a physical fitness room. I have found every staff member to be helpful and quickly responds to requests.

The staff at Brookdale Imperial Plaza was knowledgeable. We had an opportunity to talk to some of the residents who were enthusiastic about living there. They had a lot of activities available. The rooms that we looked at were quite small, so that was disappointing. Only one building's rooms included dishwashers, which was disappointing, too, because my sister would be preparing her meals herself and a dishwasher would be important to her. The unit that had a dishwasher was more expensive.

They have pretty good activities going on. The staff is right there with them and talking to them. They are knowledgeable enough. They keep them occupied. My mother is now at Imperial Plaza. She has been there for a month now. Everything is good in this place. It is a much older facility. It is not as pretty as the other facility we considered, but it has really been lovely. Their food is excellent, which is important to my mom. She likes it there. They have their own bank and their own beauty salon. They just have more things because they have so many more people. It is more of an a la carte thing where you pay extra if you want them cleaning your house or pay extra for a meal. It is not all-inclusive like the other facility, but we believe that it made more sense for my mother at this stage in her life. They have all kinds of activities, like lunches and bingo. She is not doing exercise activities, but she is planning of doing that in the future. Based on what my mother needs, I found their services good. They are meeting all my mom's needs. If you need any long-term situation, I think Imperial Plaza is a really good choice.

Imperial Plaza has everything right there; my mom doesn't have to go anywhere if she doesn't want to. There's a store, restaurant, hair salon, and pharmacy. It's all enclosed; you don't need to go outside from building to building. It is close to me as well, and very nice. They have one or two bedrooms. Their meals are pretty good and decent, but I take most of the meals to her. They have bingo, music, and trips, but they're pretty expensive. However, they don't have as many as they probably could have.

We liked it very much at Imperial Plaza, but it's just that we want to come up closer to family. It was a much bigger place than where we are now. It's both independent and assisted living. It was very good. The staff was very nice. Food was great, they have like three dining rooms. They have a large dining room and have a menu so that's like going into a hotel. You can get anything you want. They have quite a few different activities, like bingo and card games. They have a big auditorium that held plays, musicals, and all kinds of things like that. We would highly recommend it.

I visited this facility

Actually, I thought Imperial Plaza was really great. They were just a little bit expensive but not too bad. It was also really big. I felt that it would overwhelm my mother-in-law. Also, it was farther from our home. We like to just pop in, and that wasn't a place where we could just pop in. The staff, though, was great. We looked at a studio and it was nice. They did have the same kinds of activities. I know they did have bingo and other sorts of games there, too.

I visited this facility

I was able to visit Imperial Plaza. The staff that accommodated me was very nice and knowledgeable. They were able to give me a lot of paper notes that I can read. They told me that they have shopping and they take the residents to the grocery store. Everything from the visit was fine.

I visited this facility

I thought that Imperial Plaza was much too old for me to live comfortably. They told me I would be in independent living, but they also had a lot of assisted living people there. The age difference between myself and the other residents turned me off. It seemed like most of them needed assisted living instead of independent living. They took me and showed me a room, and it didn't impress me very much. The size was just too small, all it had was a refrigerator. They had other units that had a small kitchen, but with my budget I cannot afford it, so what I had done was eat out a lot or utilize their cafeteria. They sent food in a box, and I've got to admit, it's like any other institutional meal. I'm sure it was healthy, but it didn’t stand out as special. I saw people sitting in the hallways. They weren't doing too much, you're just vegetated there like that. I couldn't be like that to myself again. Somebody should be offering them entertainment or give them mental health. It's like inmates are let out of the jail just waiting for their next meal. It's kind of pathetic. But they offer more than the previous place I lived at before.

I visited this facility

Imperial Plaza was all self-contained. There's a walking area connected to different buildings where they have a beauty shop and different things. But the overall appearance when you walk into it just seemed very dingy. I looked at the rooms, they were very dark. And this was in daylight. They could lighten it up and make it a brighter color. The staff was very good, knowledgeable, and they were anxious to show you what they had. But for me, it sounded like I was going to walk into a tunnel tuft for getting older, and I didn't want to do that. The minimum age there is 80. They might be right for some people, just not for me.

Imperial Plaza just happened to be the place where my mom has friends, which is important. It's something that fits within her budget. They have a lot of activities. She likes the food.

I am a friend or relative of resident

My father -n-law received the worst experience due mainly to very poor management. I commend most of the nurses and PT staff who try to do a good job in such an environment.

I am a friend or relative of resident

My Mother lived here for three weeks in Assistant Living. Our experience has not been very good. The nurses were all kind but I had a very bad experience with the Assistant Living Supervisor. She was very unkind. I would not recommend this facility for assistant living.

The staff seemed ok. There was an incident in which my grandmother had a unexplained bruise on her face. I am not sure if my grandmother did something on her own or if it was done to her. But I do know that my grandmother was unable to walk and was in the bed all day so I am not sure how she hit her face on something. The facility was clean and smelled good.
