I visited this facility

I chose Warwick Forest Retirement Community because of how the apartments were laid out. It wasn't near as big as another place I visited, and the area outside was pretty compact and easy for me to get around. They had a gated entrance and covered parking, and they had assigned parking. I first started by looking at a one-bedroom, then I went to a two-bedroom unit because the two-bedroom units on the first floor have outdoor entrances. I like that because it made it easier for me to walk my pet, and I didn't have to walk her through the hallways. They had swimming, physical therapy, workout rooms, a couple of different dining rooms, a casual bar, and movie nights. I liked it better than some of the others that I had seen. It's large enough for me. I had a meal, and it was very good. Their menu and the service that they provided were very, very good.

My mother has lived at this facility for 10 months. Since day one there has been nothing but communication issues. Her “care plan” was never properly reviewed until after she lived there for 8 months…even after we repeatedly made attempts to discuss with staff. After an extensive discussion with administration and what was perceived to be an agreed upon plan there is still no follow-up to that by the staff. There are certain prompts that we discussed she needs on a daily basis that she does not get. As a result this directly effects her quality of life at this facility. Calls to various members of the staff either go unanswered or brushed off. Their turnover is surprisingly high, especially considering we were told during the sales pitch this was not the case. Even worse is the fact that unbeknownst to me they were administering a cancer medication that she had been off of for three years. There is no accountability whatsoever at this place. Their only saving grace is the beauty of the facility itself and the quality of food that is served. It’s gotten so bad that we have been actively seeking a new residence for her to move into as soon as possible. I write this to make others aware that the sales pitch is misleading and they will never ever be a proper advocate for your loved one at a time when they need it most.

Warwick Forest Retirement Community was lovely. They have a lot of amenities like a nice big library, a pool, and a workout room. That would be my first choice, but you have to pay a lot upfront and then you have to pay a lot every month. The rooms were nice, though. When we first moved into this area, my husband and I looked at their beautiful little cottages. They'll move you there and paint the walls, which would be very accommodating if you have the money. It's also in a pleasant setting. It's wooded, grassy with walking paths, benches, and so on. It was very nice. The lady who did the tour was very nice, very knowledgeable, and not pushy.

We chose Warwick Forest Retirement Community for my mother because it was convenient and appeared nice and everything matched up to what we were looking for. The rooms are nice and fairly large. So far, so good. She's only been there for a week or so, so we're just kind of seeing how things go. My mother isn't one that participates in a whole lot of different things. They have activities, but it's limited because of Covid. Everything is pretty much inside there in the building, and they're not letting people come in because of Covid. She seems to be okay with the food.

We have toured the Warwick Forest. The place was really nice. The specific floor plan we were looking at has additional storage room. Their separate storage area is very large. We had a choice of the carpeting, wooden floor, and the paint color, and which was really very nice. They had a theater, which is a little bit unusual, as other places we visited did not have a theater. They had standard transportation to doctors' appointments, shopping centers, and to local artistic theater. We ate there after the tour was over. They had the typical meal plan where you get 30 meals per month per person. The only downside is they do not carry over at the end of the month, so it is a use-it or lose-it meal plan. They have two doctors who live on-site and will actually come to your apartment to see you, house call style, which would be very appropriate. However, you're not required to use their doctors. If you don't want to switch from your current doctor, that's fine with them, but it is available to you.

My mother was in Warwick Forest for 20 years. When she was in independent-living, she was very happy. When she moved into assisted living in January of 2016, that’s when we saw a difference in care. The nursing staff was good, but they were experiencing a high turnover. The food was not good at all; half the time, it was cold. They didn’t have enough to go around for selections that were given for entrees. The community was built in the mid 70s, so it was dated.

I am/was a resident of this facility

Warwick Forest is the best one we liked. It's a large facility and affiliated with a hospital health system, it's very well-funded, and it has life care, independent living, assisted living, dementia units, full nursing homes, and a rehab facility. The maintenance is wonderful, and the rooms are very nice. We have a 1350 square foot apartment, and the food is good. It's not gourmet, but it's good food. It's like a restaurant-type system, and the restaurant is open from 8:00 in the morning until 8:00 in the evening. You can eat any and as many meals as you want there. You have an allocation that's approximately $10 a day as a part of your rent, and $10 goes a long way here because for example, you can get a buffet breakfast for $5 which is all you can eat, and you can get a $7.50 buffet dinner which includes everything from dessert, to entrees, to vegetables and all kinds of stuff.

Warwick Forest was a very good place, and it's probably where we're going. It was clean and well-organized. They had independent living, assisted living, and memory care. When your money runs short, they don't kick you out, but there was an upfront fee. They provide buses to the stores and trips. The environment of the place was good.

We have my parents in Assisted Living at Warwick Forest now. I’m very happy with them; they’re very responsive, and cleanliness is great. Dad fell last night, and they got him up. They have EMPs. With the transition, his blood sugar was going up and down, so they started monitoring it every four hours and kept an eye on it. Usually there’s one grumpy person, and I have found that grumpy person, so we just avoid her, but it’s been really good.

Warwick Forest was very good. The staff took as much time as we needed and answered all of our questions. Today, I visited my friend and the person who led the tour, probably two months ago remembered me and my name and I thought that was very good and thoughtful. My friend liked it.

We checked Warwick Forest out, and they've all been very nice and very friendly. It's a lovely place. The apartments were very nice and well furnished. Everything was nice. We have eaten there several times, and the food was very good. They had two lovely dining rooms that were well furnished with lovely settings like a nice restaurant. They have a swimming pool, a movie theater, and an exercise room, and they have bingo.

Warwick Forest was a lovely area. It appeared to be well-maintained, it had everything that we needed, and it will be near my daughter's new house. They have movies and exercise, they have a swimming pool, they have grounds which you can walk on, and they have buses. They have just about everything that you need. It has three different restaurant type venues -- one is for formal dining, one for café dining, and another one is bistro style.

Residence areas are competitively priced but not too well maintained. Independent living apartments are attractive in design but somewhat noisey. Inconsistent oversight of general maintenance could indicate management indifference?

I like the location and I like the facility here at Warwick Forest. I like the surroundings. I visited to check the cleanliness and how they are treating the patient. From what I could see, it is clean. We spoke to a person, and he was OK and very knowledgeable. He answered all of my questions. The place was very colorful and very inviting in the entry way.

This is one of the best facilities here in the Hampton Roads area. I have looked at and visited all facitlies - and by far, this is the most family oriented, friendly and caring place. The residents are treated as family-as are the members of family that do not live there. I would not want my mom to live any place else.

I have a brother who had to have total hip replacement surgery. He also has a history of seizures and blackouts. He was recommended to go there after his discharge from rehab. The staff was very helpful and courteous. The doctors there are very experienced with their knowledge of medical treatment. They have a very healthy menu plan for any diagnosis and the food is actully tasty. They also have a chaplain if either the patient or family want to consult with. The social workers make sure supplies are ordered and ready for use in facility and transitioning home. I would recommend this facility to any that is looking into long term care. It also has a very clean atmosphere, recreational activities for residents, as well as a library, and an exercise room. He is now able to function fully without any assistance and transitioned well back into an independent home.

I visited this facility

I visted the assisted living facility as a volunteer. Upon my first visit, I noticed the immaculate docor and aura of the building. To the right of the front doors was a fancy, large sitting area with multiple shelves of books. The staff was friendly and inviting. After geeting to know a couple staff in particular, I was intrigued by their genuine care and affection towards the elders. The guest's schedule was relaxing but fun and engaging. They got to partake in activites such as bingo, concert nights, mall trips, and much more. Most of the poeple living there I met seemed to have a pretty upbeat vibe to them. Although their conditions and situations, they definatly seemed content and at home in the facility.

Visited this facility

We have lived here in Independent Living for over three years. We are very disappointed, mostly in the quality of the food. Also, the new portion was poorly designed and constructed. Lowest quality appliances were provided. Administration markets this as an upscale community. Occupancy is low because of the economy. Administration is more concerned about attracting new residents than providing for the happiness and well being of those who have already moved in.
