    I visited this facility

I visited Vinson Hall and was very impressed with it. A young lady gave the tour who was very efficient, very professional, and very friendly. The dining room areas seemed very pleasant. It looked very good. I liked what I saw.

I am a friend or relative of a current/past resident

Vinson Hall is unique in a number of ways. It has a pleasant hilltop campus in McLean that keeps it private even though it lies across the street from a small shopping center with bank, supermarket, drug store, and restaurant. My mother was part of the WWII generation of wonderful, decent, smart people who moved in here between 10 and 20 years ago. She has wonderful friends and Vinson Hall provides them with weekly activity programs, bridge groups, support groups (for the hearing- or sight-impaired for example), a "courtesy car" and small bus for shopping and doctor visits, and a few guest rooms for visiting relatives that are less expensive than the local hotels. The employees are also generally very nice people. The residents seem to like the food, too, though I have the tastes of a younger, more health-conscious person and would like to see fewer starches and creamy sauces. This is an individual matter but the dining system is very convenient for people who don't want to cook anymore. Finally, they have a gem of a chaplain. One important note: My mother has been able to hire her own caregivers but this may be changing so that one has to use the Vinson Hall consulting health aides. This would mean having whoever was assigned and would not be as good for the residents, though some have good luck with requesting the same person all the time. Being gracious with the staff is an important part of enjoying life at Vinson Hall.

    I am/was a resident of this facility

Vinson Hall Retirement Community is a very nice facility. People seem to be enjoying the food. They have confident nurses. My wife, and I were in an apartment and she had fallen down several times so she had to move to the nursing facility. My apartment has one-bedroom, two-bathrooms, living-,room, and a very small kitchen. It is very comfortable. My wife in the nursing facility has a smaller, but decent-sized room. We have several dining rooms. We have a little bar. We do trips to theatres. People come in here to play music or some speak about educational stuff.

    I visited this facility

Vinzon Hall was suggested by my daughter. I liked the atmosphere. I went back to see it probably 5 or 6 times and talked to the marketing people. They just built a new expansion, and I found an apartment there, a brand new one that I liked. It was a two-bedroom apartment. I planned to move there in April. I ate there, and I thought the food was good. The staff was very accommodating in showing me around. They gave me a lot of time. I chose the place because I am a military wife of a retired officer, and that was who they mainly had there, and I wanted to be with people like me. The ground was very nice. It was well landscaped, had nice full grown trees, and it was a very pleasant environment. I would recommend them, but it was restricted to retired military and state department people, so it was not available to everyone.

    I visited this facility

Vinson Hall Retirement Community is almost totally different than any other nursing facility. On one side of the road, they had a very extensive assisted living and first class stuff, and on the other side of the road, they had a new building and complex, which handles nothing but dementia and Alzheimer's patients.

    I visited this facility

Not a very good volunteer coordinator, but the community overall was very nice. From the perspective of a person wanting a place to live in their old age it provided great assisted living and facilities/accommodations.
