The staff is nice and friendly. The residents room's needs a good cleaning. I visit my friend at least 2-3 times a week and I see the same grime and dirt in her room each time. I am sure her chair has not been moved and cleaned beneath it in months.
The only time the table and dresser in her room is cleaned is when I do it. Today while I was there the cleaning person came in and went through the motions of cleaning the floor which was one swipe through the middle of the floor with the vacumn cleaner. when he left the room there was still debris and dirt from a plant still on the floor which I cleaned up with wet paper towels. The baseboard has dirt and dust on it which has not been cleaned since she has been in the room for more than two years.
The food is passable but really not what should be fed to the elderly.
The daylight staff are very pleasant but the evening and overnight staff leave a lot to be desired in the care of the residents. It seems they expect the residents to go to bed soon after the evening meal and not to ask for or expect any help or attention for the remainder of the night

I am a friend or relative of a current/past resident

I visited this facility
I am trying to move my husband in The Mayflower. It is in walking distance from my home, and I have known several people that have lived there. They kind of have a very active and lively group, which is what he needs. They have shared rooms with a shared bathroom, and they also have private rooms with a private bathroom.

I visited this facility
We didn't like the building that the Mayflower is in. It is an old hotel and my mother-in-law would have had a hard time negotiating and finding her room there. Because of the size of the facility, I just felt like she wouldn't be getting as much attention. One thing that I did like about it, they have a bus, and they take the people out on trips a lot.

I visited this facility
I only went to Mayflower for a visit, and this is an old Mayflower Hotel converted into a facility. It looks bright and old. It’s not really fancy, although the architecture is beautiful. The director is very nice. The rooms are small. Overall, it's a nice place to visit, but I would not want to live there.

I am a friend or relative of a resident
As I mentioned, we did get to know the staff and many of the residents that lived there. The staff were very friendly. They would typically greet you with a smile and a "hello" as you came in. The home is very nice, it is a very old boarding home that feels like a home. I have been to three different retirement homes and this one was by far the nicest. I liked it because it was not so sterile and white-washed like many other care facilities (hospitals, etc.). Many of the residents I spoke to were happy with the care they received. I would often go on the weekends for family luncheons. The food was very good (down home cooking) and there was always plenty of it. Also, they often had live music playing from a pianist or local band. The other great thing about the Mayflower is that the residents are able to go outside on the patio when the weather is nice. I appreciated the freedom that my grandmother was able to have during her stay there. Overall, I liked the Mayflower.

There is nothing good to say. I have seen to much bad and feel sorry for the residents there.

I visited this facility
I visited this facility with a group of volunteers over Christmas, and I was pleasantly surprised with the entire experience. We had a really nice time caroling and visiting with the residents. The group of workers that we came in contact with were kind and helpful to the residents without being overbearing or interfering with those who expected some independence. The living and recreation areas were quite nice and well-maintained. The facility smelled and appeared to be very clean and spacious, and it is located in a beautiful town with a lot to offer and a lot of links to American history. The food appeared to be good, and there were a number of events going on to keep the residents busy with social time and community activities. If I had a relative that needed to live in an assisted living facility, the Mayflower would be my first choice as it is the best in the Lexington area that I have encountered.
