We visited Elizabeth House, and we liked it. The room was a good size. It was nice and clean. We couldn't look around too much because they wouldn't let us go where the other people were because of COVID. We could only look at the one room.

We urgently needed a place for my aunt and Elizabeth House was available and affordable. The director and head of nursing were very welcoming, and during her 18 months there both were very caring about the residents. However, the owners seemed to care only about cutting costs, filling beds, and keeping the facility understaffed. The aides cared more about their cellphones and visiting with each other than fulfilling residents' needs. When a new director came in things got even worse and we had to get my aunt out of there!

My dad was a reseident of Elizabeth House for 4 years. During that time they had 2 substantial price increases. The first was 12% with promises being made to upgrade the facility (carpet, new flooring, paint, etc). That was a broken promise. When I visited weekly his room never appeared to be really clean. At best the trash was emptied and that was it. The room was dust, carpet was full of dirt, stains. The bathroom has never smelled fresh or clean on any time I have visited. The facility has had another increase this year to raise resident rents another 10%. The majority of residents are on fixed incomes. So how do you justify raising each year to more than a resident is able to afford with no improvements to the interior or exterior of the facility. I have attempted to have conversations with current administrators and pretty much what I got is either you stay and pay or go elsewhere. They were not willing to work with our family so that our family member could remain. I feel we have had legitimate complaints throughout our 4 years at the facility and they have never really been addressed to our satisfaction. The administration does not care about its residents. They only care about their bottom line. Do not send your family to this facility. The administration is rude and talks to family members disrespectfully so imagine how they are treating residents. I moved my family member to another facility.

Elizabeth House was affordable, and it was in a good location for us. The appearance was clean, and it was an excellent place. You have to bring your own furniture. They did help with things that my cousin didn’t have right away. They had a storage room with things that they let you use until you got what you needed. They did have activities, but he didn’t participate because he was too sick by the time he got there. I have no comments with the food; we were there many times when the food was served, and it looks like you get anywhere like that. I don’t think places like that ever seasoned their enough for our liking, but it was a good menu, and the food was appealing. We like the place, the price range, and they had room available.

I had high hopes for Elizabeth House as a potential facility in which to place my mother. It was close to my home and I could walk there in less than 10 minutes. I was really counting on this assisted living facility meeting my needs, but unfortunately, it came up short. When I entered the front door, everything looked bright and inviting. But finding someone in the marketing department who could answer my questions took a lot of effort. No one seemed interested in speaking with me, and when I was finally taken on a tour, it was done so quickly that I had no opportunity to ask questions or spend time examining the different areas of the facility. Elizabeth House is small and intimate, and on the surface, it looks very cozy and comfortable. However, the very quick tour pointed out some deficiencies that I felt needed immediate correction. For example, there was a strong odor of urine in the halls, combined with the smell of bleach and disinfectant. Although I understand that these odors are common in assisted living facilities, Elizabeth House seemed to be trying to quickly mask the odor, rather than cleaning the source of the problem. The admissions staff answered questions, but did not go into a lot of detail, so I had to dig to get the information I was looking for. Although there is a calendar of activities, on the afternoon I was there, two scheduled events had been canceled, and the residents were sitting around in the day room looking bored. One lady was practically falling out of her wheelchair. No one seemed to be paying attention to her. The rooms at Elizabeth House were large and spacious, but the lighting was very dim and it did not look like the housekeeping staff had emptied out the wastebaskets in several days. Trash was overflowing from almost every recepticle, and that was a big red flag for me. Elizabeth House has the potential to be a first rate facility, but it seems like the management needs to make major changes to the way it operates. In checking their ratings on the Medicare.gov site, Elizabeth House could stand some improvement. There were many things that I liked about Elizabeth House, but the current situation and lethargic attitude made me rule it out. Perhaps it might be good for someone else's loved one -- but it was not the right place for my mother.
