About Davis Home
Davis Home is committed to serving the needs of older adults who are no longer able to live at home but do not need nursing home level of care. We are a Vermont licensed Level III Residential Community Care Home accepting men, women and couples. As times change and the physical space between families grows, extended families are taking on greater importance. Davis Home endeavors to fill in that space by creating an environment that is safe, structured, supportive, warm, and as close to “home” as possible. Davis Home has an outstanding reputation among doctors, social workers, home care providers and other members of the community for offering superlative care and exceptional services. Davis Home is located in a residential section of Windsor, convenient to shopping and entertainment, restaurants, banks, churches, library, barbers and hair salons, dry cleaner, a pharmacy , art galleries, stores and gift shops. They are all just a short walk away. Davis Home accepts private pay, Vermont Medicaid including Assistive Community Care Services (ACCS) and Choices For Care also known as enhanced residential care (ERC) residents.
At an Old Home day celebration in Windsor, August 16, 1901, one of the distinguished speakers was the Honorable Gilbert A. Davis. He summarized the many needs of the community, among which was a home for older adults, to be organized under the Act of 1892 which had been introduced in the Vermont State Senate. A large committee was appointed but no action was taken. It was not until 1955 that such a home was made possible by the daughter-in-law of Gilbert A. Davis and widow of his son, Gilbert F. Davis, who left her home and furnishings on State Street, and a trust fund to help maintain it, to be known as The Davis Home. The Davis Home operated as an assisted care home for 45 years when in August 2000 the Board of Trustees made the decision to close the home. It was purchased and re-opened in October 2000 and has been flourishing ever since. Carrie Jewell purchased the Davis Home on January 1, 2006.
What Makes Us Special
In addition to high-quality care, safety and supervision, Davis Home provides all meals and snacks, laundry and housekeeping service, and medication management. All residents have private or semi-private bedroom areas and share common rooms, such as, living areas, sitting areas, and the dining room. We serve our meals “family style” and our staff eat along with the residents. A registered nurse and licensed practical nurse are available either on-site or via telephone at all times to provide nursing overview and manage the residents health care needs. Our nurses work closely with all of the residents' health care providers. All rooms at Davis Home are equipped with a 24 hour call system with a button to alert staff of emergencies and illness. There is also awake staff for safety and security round the clock. We have an “open door” atmosphere, all visitors are welcome to stop by anytime, even enjoy a meal with us.
