I am a friend or relative of a current/past resident

My father received negligent care from Maple Ridge Memory Care. He went over a month without an attempted shower, change of clothing & teeth brushed. His treatment record was kept “shoved in a drawer & never looked at” per the director of nursing. When I finally received them, they detailed 3 months of not receiving services outlined on his care plan. They forget to feed him, deliver food without utensils in locked to go boxes he cannot open. We delivered feedback to every staff at every level but things did not improve. Read the 10-13-23 licensing report before putting your loved one here.

Mom is at Maple Ridge Memory Care. It is very new, clean, and fresh. It feels almost like walking into a hotel lobby in a very nice way. The staff are very friendly. They have chair yoga, dance parties, and cooking activities.

My mother moved in and they're doing a good job with her. Her room is very nice, it's a very nice place and her room is also very clean. They play a lot of word games and stuff like that, and the people that are there they intermingle, and they're not just shut away in a room or anything. With COVID right now, the meal times are different than normal, they're more strict and more careful. She hasn't said anything against the food. Everything seems good.

I went here and it looked like an excellent place. I would love to have my mom there. It's very clean. The residents looked pretty happy, and the staff was very welcoming. It looked like they genuinely cared for their residents. They were flexible on their menu too. They're able to accommodate many different kinds of diets. They gave me a list of activities, and it looked like they have them every day. While I was there, I saw people working on puzzles, reading the paper, and stuff.

I visited this facility

It was very nice. It's cheery, it's welcoming, and the staff was wonderful. I met a nurse, I met the director of course, and actually, a couple of the people followed us on a tour that is living there. They're struggling with memory, but they just were part of the tour, which is fine. The room we looked at was pretty basic. I mean, it was nice enough, it was not the largest room they have, but it was empty because nobody was living there. It looked like it needed some woman's touch in there. But I've seen some of the furnished rooms in the pictures and their catalog, and they're nicely done. So once you get in there, you can do your own thing, but it only comes with a bed and a dresser, and that was pretty basic. It has plenty of room, plenty of space, a nice large bathroom, and it's wheelchair accessible. They've got a closet and a fridge. They've got a little bit of storage room beside the dresser, so there's enough room for things like a club chair, twin or full bed, a nightstand, and a TV, of course. Size- wise, there is a larger room that, of course, comes at a thousand dollars more a month. They have a little beauty shop for people to get their hair done. And it's kind of set up like a little town center, so it's very nice. And we did like the fact that when you're taking the tour, you know it's not just in one area, everything is right there where you eat. It's like you can go down and around a bend, there's the dining room and you can go a little bit further and there's outside space and around another bend is like a craft room or a seating area. It feels very homey. There was a dining room and then there's a private kitchen. If I wanted to come and make dinner for my mom, I could just come and do that in this private kitchen. They have thought of a lot of things. I saw a group of mostly women, but some men doing some exercising in this one area, and they seemed to all be enjoying themselves and they also had a calendar of activities and I've seen it on the walls and tables. They had crafts that the people who live there had made and are quite lovely. They're very creative that the people who work there have taken time to put some thought into what they do every day, and it was very impressive, I thought. So that was the reason we chose it, because my mom is kind of very artistic, and I said that would be a great fit for her because I think she'd enjoy some of the stuff. We didn't have a meal or anything, but what they do is they offer them two different meals. They show them visually because people can't read the menu sometimes or can't remember what a meal might look like or what a steak might be or whatever it is. So they show them visually two different plates and they can point to which one they like, you know, which one that looks the best to them. There are certain brightly colored plates and things like that. There's visual interest to get people to eat because a lot of seniors don't want to eat anymore.

I visited this facility

It was very good, very clean, and they seemed to be very good about telling you exactly what they would do and on and on. The rooms weren't small, but they were medium-sized and something that I thought my husband would be able to handle. They were clean. I was pretty impressed with them. The activities were kinda limited, but they certainly provided some type of activities that he would've enjoyed. The staff was very friendly and accommodating. The food was excellent.

I visited this facility

It was very clean, and I liked the layout of the place. There's a lot I liked about it, but there wasn't a lot of personal interaction that I've seen. The doors were closed, and it felt like a hotel. I think that for some people, it would be great. I really liked the layout of the rooms and how they're spacious. The person who accommodated me was great. She answered all my questions and took a lot of time with me. She was very understanding, and I really liked that person. But I didn't actually interact with a lot of people there. I saw the dining area and the menu, although I didn't try the food. The dining area's really nice. They were getting ready for a holiday party, which I thought was fun.

About Maple Ridge Memory Care in Essex, Vermont

Welcome to Maple Ridge, a truly nurturing and loving setting for seniors with memory loss. We take the time to learn about our residents and celebrate their uniqueness every day. We love their families and truly work with them to ensure a transparent, honest, and supportive partnership in care.

Maple Ridge is the only memory care community in Chittenden County with its entire leadership team trained as Dementia Certified Practitioners.

To help our residents truly thrive despite the limitations of their memory loss, our memory care program is intentionally named AspireCare. To that end, we custom design a thoughtful rhythm to each resident’s day that includes all of the research-proven components of good care for those with Alzheimer’s and related dementias.

We aspire to provide the best possible life for our residents and do not let their memory loss limit them. Our days start with appropriate, nutritious meals, senior-friendly exercise, meaningful activities that provide purpose, entertainment, trips, and music, and ends with a good night’s sleep. Our nursing staff is unobtrusively there, to help with any health care needs that may arise.

At Maple Ridge Memory Care, AspireCare is both our lifestyle and our therapy program. This unique holistic program of nurturing care is offered to every resident. Advanced Communications Techniques

We know in that in normal communication what you say is of primary importance. However, in the case of seniors who are losing their ability to process information, how you say something is more important. Our communications training is extensive, unique, and deeply meaningful to our residents and staff.

The Rhythm of the Day

We have learned that consistency is vital to our residents. We begin each day with slow, comforting waking routines as well as a nutritious breakfast. The day continues with easy warm up activities to help residents gain confidence. After lunch, each resident continues the day with more active, physical, and mental activities designed in a personalized manner. For example, our exclusive Down Home Cooking® program is often happening resulting in a favorite afternoon treat. The rhythm of the day winds down with a light dinner often accompanied by soothing instrumental music. Comforting movies or reading aloud may occur before getting ready for a good night’s sleep.

Advanced Wellness Care

At Maple Ridge Memory Care, we take great pride in our customized and thorough staff training for our RNs, LPNs and nurses’ aides. Each member of our leadership team is a Certified Dementia Practitioner. In addition, our AspireCare training for all direct care staff far exceeds Vermont requirements and is the cornerstone of our care. We also partner with community experts and specialists in various healthcare fields to provide exceptional and holistic care for our residents.

Research-Based Dining Program

Research tells us that along with appropriate activity and good health care, diet is vital to maintaining health, particularly for those with memory loss. Our compassionate dining program is a significant component of AspireCare. It stimulates appetite with an appropriate dining room atmosphere and choices that are best for those with limited dining ability. Our food is homemade, not preprocessed, and has the right mix of fresh and Vermont-sourced vegetables, whole grains and proteins to maximize enjoyment and health. Sugar and fat are kept to a minimum, but never to the extent that food is not delicious!
