I visited this facility

The Charleston at Cedar Hills was my favorite place. They had very good food. They did serve us a meal there, and I thought the food was the top feature. The facility is very nice, not too big, not too small. There's a nice kitchen area for the residents to use if they want it. It has nice grounds. Seemed like the management was very experienced and had been there a long time, which appealed to me. They had a good nurse-to-patient ratio, which I thought was great. Of all the places we looked at, that was my particular favorite. They had a nice activity room. This place wasn't too big and wasn't too small, it's nice to have it right in the middle. It seemed great overall. They do have two-bedroom units with a walk-in closet. They don't have very many, but the ones that do have a walk-in closet are very nice. That's the only place we saw that had that. The interaction between staff and residents seemed to be very good. They have very good nurses who have been there a long time, so the staff stuck around, which I thought was impressive.

I've visited The Charleston at Cedar Hills. It's a beautiful facility, they're very organized with activities and church options. They're very, very active there. They have flexible menus and the rooms were very nice. They had outdoor views of the mountains and nice sitting areas outside. The management staff that gave us the tour took a lot of time and they're good that way. They backed out on us because of the diabetes issue. Overall, they're good. We saw the dining area and it was wonderful, it's nice. I would warn people who have diabetes, to not waste a lot of time, because they're not going to be upfront right away about what they're willing to do, so we lost a lot of time that way.

The Charleston at Cedar Hills is a nice facility. The staff was nice, and I think my mom will receive more attention because it's a smaller facility. They have an activities calendar, and they do activities daily and weekly. They have a library, a salon, and they show movies. The building is very clean and well-maintained.

Provider Response

Thank you so much for touring The Charleston. We appreciate hearing what a positive impression our community, services, and amenities made. We strive daily to create an environment that our residents are proud to call home. Should you have any questions as you explore options with your mom, please don't hesitate to be in touch. My dad is staying at The Charleston in Cedar Hills. They've been willing to work with me on a lot of things. I would need to hire other people to go there. They've been really wonderful to work with us as we get different home health people in there. They have a really clean place, and I love their dining room. The place is small enough, and the staff is really good at keeping up since it's small. Their assisted living is up to level 4, but my dad ended up needing a 2-person assist. They can only go up to one-person, so we had to hire other people. The place is pretty well-maintained. My dad has been eating his food; it's pretty good. They provide three meals a day.

Provider Response

Thank you for sharing your experience. We are honored to be of help to you and your dad. As an MBK Senior Living community, The Charleston has a shared mission to nurture a culture of genuine care and provide our residents with an enhanced and engaging lifestyle. We're pleased to hear that our clean, welcoming environment, dining services, and caring team members have made an impact. My mother has been in The Charleston at Cedar Hills in their assisted living. So far our experience has been good. Her apartment there is very spacious, nice, and very clean. Their amenities are great; they have everything she needs. They have a dining room, a library, a movie room, and so on. It's a very clean and nice place, and the staff is helpful.

The Charleston at Cedar Hills was a nice facility. It seemed like it had everything we were looking for and what we needed. They have a lot of different room options and different levels of services. Overall, it was a nice facility. They have dining facilities and some group areas with TVs where individuals can meet, play games, or watch movies. They have church facilities, recreation, and physical facilities for exercising. The dining area looked large, nice, and comfortable, like a nice restaurant. The staff member provided me with information and answered my questions. The building is really nice and has a well-manicured landscape. One of the things we liked about it was you can increase to whatever level of assistance you want, like if you want them to manage your medications.

Provider Response

Thank you for visiting The Charleston at Cedar Hills. We're so pleased to hear that enjoyed our inviting environment, well-appointed residences, community amenities, enrichment and dining programming, and care services. As you continue to explore your senior living options, please don't hesitate to call if you have questions. We hope we have the opportunity to welcome you home to The Charleston.

We chose The Charleston at Cedar Hills. It's very nice and spacious. It looks like their staff is well-organized. There's a Walmart not too far away and some other shopping. We looked at a studio which seemed to be quite adequate and has a fridge, microwave and sink. The pricing was competitive.

My mother spent 11 months at The Charleston after she broke her hip. Each time I visited Mom her I was so impressed with all of the staff and the caring individuals who showed so much love, understanding, and kindness to Mother. I spent portions of 6 out of 12 months over the 11 months that Mother lived at the Charleston. I was so pleased with the level of care, the respect, and desire to help from everyone I encountered. Should my future require that I live in this type of facility I would certainly want it to be just like The Charleston.

The Charleston staff are my heroes. I moved my parents back to Utah from out of state, and was surprised when the place I had arranged to move them was unable to admit my parents for a few weeks. I couldn't leave my parents in a hotel room for two weeks, and they couldn't come to stay at my house because of stairs. MacKenzie at The Charleston was able to get us admitted on very short notice. They really were a lifesaver to me and my parents. All of the staff are dedicated and very caring. It seemed like I spent a few weeks as a resident there myself, because I was in and out so often, and everyone I talked with there was just a pleasure to work with. A big thank you to Robin at the front desk, and Wayne too. You guys are all the best!

I spent almost three months at the Charleston at Cedar Hills while I was recovering from surgeries involving broken bones. It was a wonderful facility run by kind and caring people. I could not have received any better care and if I get to a point in my life that I need a permanent care center, you can be sure that I will be moving to the Charleston at Cedar Hills. I highly recommend this facility and give it a five-star rating!!!!

Provider Response

What a truly wonderful HOME for my mother we found in The Charleston. We wanted a place she could call and feel like her home. She has met many peers to become friends with and she loves the branch so she can worship the way she was accustomed to . I like how she is cared for from the staff. She is treated better than family and everyone calls her by name. I really enjoy eating lunch or dinner with mom because the food is prepared like a fine dinning restaurant. I really enjoy the other patrons at the center I and my mother have made many new friends. Thank you Wayne and Staff for being there for our Mother and family .

Provider Response

How wonderful to hear. We're so grateful that The Charleston is meeting the needs of you and your mother -- and that she feels right at home. Thank you for choosing The Charleston, it's our pleasure to be of service to you and your mother.

The Charleston at Cedar Hills is clean and nice, and dad felt at home immediately. The price range and the food were good. The staff had been great so far. They have activities for them all the time, and they had a library and an exercise room. He has a very nice 1-bedroom room. Of all the places we looked, we were happy with that one.

The Charleston at Cedar Hills is a small community, not overwhelming with the number of residents. The rooms are large and the rates are really good compared to some of the others. It’s cheerful and bright, which is what attracted us to it. I’m a little bit disappointed with the food and the food service, but overall, it’s been good. My dad is comfortable at this facilty, in general, and his needs are being met overall.

I really liked the Charleston. In fact, if it were a little closer to me, I probably would have chosen this one. I really liked the way they are set up, the offerings, and just about everything about this place. The rooms ware a good size and well designed. I can't say enough about this facility. It is very nice.

At 83 my elderly mother was suffering from sevier dementia. After my dad past the symptoms worsened to the point we believed it best for her to have professional full time care. I was terrified to put my sweet mother in an assisted living of any kind but believed she would have a better quality of life with her family close and professionals on full time. After much debate and a painful decision making process we selected the Charleston. The facility was 25 miles from my home, but we felt good about the move. Earlier this month my dear mother past away. To say the staff Charleston was exceptional during my mothers time at the Charleston would be an understatement. The staff became like family. They cared for her like she was a dear relative and friend. She was not only cared for but she was loved. MacKenzie, Aubrie and Megan were exceptional. They went beyond the traditional care giver roll countless times to make sure not only my mother but our family was cared for. Without hesitation I would recommend the Charleston in what can often be a painful and confusing time. Much gratitude to my Charleston family.

Mom moved to the Charleston at Cedar Hills about 1 ½ week ago, so she is all set up. The staff that worked with us was very kind and very considerate, and they made mom feel very much at home. They have contacted an outside pastor to come in and visit with her, they have got it all set up for her to go to church and everything, and all that meant a lot. It is a very classy place. Their dining area has chandeliers and tablecloths, very nice tables, and fancy chairs. It sits right up against the Wasatch Mountains, so out of some of the windows when you look out -- and it seriously is probably no more than a quarter mile from the mountain -- you are just looking right out at a really big mountain. It is just really a beautiful location. I think one of the main issues we had was being able to keep her dog, and she was able to do that. One other thing we like about the Charleston is that they have between 70 to 80 residents, so it is not quite as large, and it is a little more personable.

The one we like best is called The Charleston. The experience with them was really good. They were very helpful. We went there twice in fact, and then my siblings went back and saw them on their own too. Each time they went, they were very helpful. What we like best about it was that the rooms were larger than most other places that we saw, and they were homey and nice. They have a little library. They have entertainment almost everyday. When we were there, they had lots of things to do for the patients. They had sing-a-long, checkers, chess, and puzzles. They have a cooking area where they have cooking demonstrations. They have a lot of things going on.

I have been living at The Charleston in Cedar Hills for 6 years now. I am in a studio apartment, and it is of good size. It has a bath, a kitchen, a sink, a microwave, and a small refrigerator. I have no problems with the staff. The food is OK, except they continue to have new cooks. They are always training new cooks, and they run out of dessert often. They have several activities. We go to Walmart once a week, and we play bingo twice a week for an hour. We also have watermelon socials in the afternoons. I think they are fine, but I have just been here too long.

My brother and sisters and I have been thrilled with the care our mother has received at the Charleston. She has had a very difficult time with her health and she has received the loving care she has needed. Those who assist her have become dear to her and love her like their own. She loves them and regularly tells us how kind and efficient they are. We chose the Charleston because my wife's father had been there for over a year prior to his death. We were so impressed that we brought our mother there and have not been disappointed. We have had every questioned answered and have received timely assistance. The employees could not have been better. Thank you for the love and kindness shown to all of our family and not just our mother who is a resident. Five stars from the Christianson family!

I am posting a review because I feel like anyone looking for an assisted living center needs to know the most current feedback on The Charleston. Two years ago when we place our mother there we were so pleased with the facility and the overabundance of care they provided. During the past year however, services and the care we signed up for have been gradually decreasing. The food is not good but my mother was willing to compromise on food because she liked her friends there and the religious services and activities. Mother is a very friendly outgoing person and makes friends easily and going to meal time is one of her favorite parts of the day. (for friendship during the meals, NOT the menu). The food is basically prepared by young people with little cooking skills right out of high school and is filled with preservatives, fried food and high calories. I have suggested a simple salad bar several times for access to fresh vegetables and salads for the residents but have never succeeded. There is only one washer and dryer for residents to use on each floor. Each floor has approximately 30 residents. Mother usually has to do laundry in the very early morning hours to have any access. Her studio apartment is about 485 sq feet and she pays about $2,536. We try to take her to her doctor appointments as much as possible but we work ourselves and have busy schedules. She has just been informed by the director that future doctor transportation costs for the residents will be $1.50 per mile plus $15 per 30 minutes of waiting time. It would probably be about $35 to $45 to take her to one doctor visit. " I think that was the straw that broke the camels back." We have decided it is time to start looking for other assisted living arrangements. One interesting sidenote: The Charleston has recently spent quite a few thousand dollars on upgrades in landscaping and interior paint and design in the common areas but at the same time, are cutting the resident services almost every week. Any upgrades to the resident apartments are being done only if a resident leaves. What has happened in the last year is very disappointing.

When our family was faced with a rather quick decision of moving Mother to a higher level of hands on care, we knew we had our work cut out for us! The bar was set high and on the first day of visiting this facility, we knew this was going to be “home” for our Mom. Everything and everybody made it feel right. The Charleston at Cedar Hills has meant our exceptions and more. We, along with our Mother are extremely happy with our choice and are thankful that she is well taken care of and we can all sleep well at night!

It was a difficult decision to move my grandparents across the country from KY, but after looking over several assisted living facilities, we decided that The Charleston was definitely our top choice for them. The facility is wonderful and the staff is amazing. They are always looking for ways to help us as family and definitely are concerned with the welfare of my grandparents. I am so glad we chose this facility and we have had a wonderful experience since day one. I would recommend this facility to anyone looking for a way to assist aging family members. They really are the best in Utah.

The Charleston was a nice facility, and it looked like it was relatively new. The place was clean. The residents seemed to be happy and well cared for. They have small apartment-like units, and you can put your own furniture in. They have cleaning services available. It was very nice, and the people were helpful and friendly. The dining area was very nice, and they have a small gym.

We did a facility for my wife. We quite liked it, but the challenge was that my wife didn't fit in very well, so she didn't stay. She was at The Charleston at Cedar Hills. She was in and out of there in two weeks. I went and toured several facilities that Caring.com recommended, and this was the nicest facility in the bunch. The facility was very nice, very clean, very well kept, and very well managed. The challenge wasn't with the facility, the challenge was with my wife. Nevertheless, the staff was very friendly and attentive. The rooms were clean and larger than most places. The dining room was really nice, big, and spacious. It was very well taken care of and very clean. They're serving varying amount of foods. Regarding activities, they had a great library, a nice walking path area around the unit, and a beauty salon, and it was very nice. In fact, my wife used it several times. Overall, I like The Charleston because it was very clean and very well lit, the rooms were larger than the other places that I toured, and the people really seemed to care a lot of bit about their tenants, more so than the other places that I visited. I would highly recommend the facility. It was a great facility.

Do not rely upon their assurances that your loved can and will be allowed to "age in place". While they are more than willing to charge for level three, four and five care, they are either unable or unwilling to allocate more than one aid per resident on a consistent basis. We were raised from level two to level four status (and our monthly bill went up by thousands) and were assured that additional aids would be consistently available to assist with the personable needs of our family member. Only one aid was consistently sent, however, despite the substantial increase in care cost. When it became impossible for a single aid (though we were already paying for additional aids) to care for our family member, we were evicted. She was definitely not allowed to "age in place".

The Charleston was very nice. It was fairly new and it looked like they had fairly good care. It was kind of small. Their rooms were smaller than what we needed. It would be OK it they were a little larger. They had activities and things like puzzles, people came in to perform, study groups and religious services. The woman gave us a very nice tour. She was very knowledgeable, kind and easy to talk to. She answered all of our questions. Their dining room was very nice and very well put together. The whole place is clean and decorated nicely. They were great for what they offered and I would recommend it to others.

This beauty is only skin deep. Very disappointing. My sister-in-law stayed here for several months. As her condition deteriorated, so did the service and the care. Promises were not kept. Hurtful things were done and said by staff. And within a week of telling my sister-in-law they wanted her to stay and would tend to her increasing needs, they told the family she had to be out within a few days and that the facility was unsafe for her. (Apparently, using only one person to assist her getting up out of bed when two should have been used, she was dropped!) And the last two days of her stay, they forced the family to pay an extra $480/day for someone to sit in her room for 24 hours/day. This was completely unnecessary, expensive and embarrassing to her. We are looking to report her ill treatment to the local ombudsman. The extraordinary unprofessional manner displayed here after the kind and caring front was devastating. Buyer beware!

My father was in The Charleston for three months. It was a large facility with more sophisticated care. They have an activities director, church services, beautiful dining room where residents could pick from a menu. The food was excellent. The building itself was very nice. I think they try hard to do their job. But my father's condition progressed to the point where he was wandering. And the facility is not contained, so there was a possibility that he could wander away. That was one of the reasons that we had to move him to a more self-contained place. They tried hard to help him and I think that they're very good facility. I was impressed with them.

Honestly I feel like they do a great job. She has her own place that consists of a living room, bathroom, and bedroom. They allowed my grandmother to bring in all of her old things. It looks just like her old place. The staff seems very nice and caring. I have never seen one act inappropriately or frustrated with anyone. I even dated one of the girls that works there. The food seemed OK. They have a rotating menu and an a la carte section that stays constant. It was nothing incredible, but it gave enough variety to work. The quality of the food was medium. Nothing really special, but also not just a piece of burnt toast and mush. They frequently have events for all those that live there. Performances, games, etc. to try and keep them entertained. My grandmother never says anything negative about the place, even though she prefers not to go to dinner, just lunch.

My mother has lived at the Charleston for over two years now. We are very pleased with the care and concern of all the staff. They are friendly, very helpful, always cheerful, and kind. We feel perfectly at ease knowing that our mother is in such a clean, friendly environment. The one complaint that she has is that the food is sometimes not very good. She loves fresh vegetables and fruits and she says there are not many of those served. We would recommend the Charleston to anyone looking for a clean, friendly, safe, and pleasant environment for their loved one.

My mom has lived at The Charleston since 2006. It is a beautiful place with staff far better than most facilities. I stay with my mom for 4-7 days every couple of months, so I know how the staff interacts with the residents. The staff loves the residents and I had NEVER seen any unkind or inappropriate act there. I grew up visiting nursing homes, etc. and I know a good facility. This is top notch. There are gorgeous paintings and decor that reflects the original owners southern touches, being from Charleston, SC. Along with the posh decor the dining facility provides a large variety of cuisine and the food is good. I eat there 3 meals a day when visiting my mom. There is also a lot of activities for the residents daily, exercise programs, a salon and physical therapy too. The community comes in several times a week and sing, or provides musical entertainment of some type for the residents. They love this! They also take them shopping once a week and go for trips to see the fall colors in the canyon or to see a theatrical play, that and more. I trust the Charleston and my mothers' care more than any other place I've visited. This is the best assisted living facility ever!

This facility is absolutely gorgeous, something akin to a resort or 5-star hotel, just the sort of vacation-like facility that the residents have earned and deserved. The residents are treated so well that I think my friend is getting a little spoiled. She has everything she could need, especially friendship and close relationships with the staff and other residents. They have all sorts of activities. My friend was in raptures over a fashion show a week or so ago, entertained immensely by the employees. She's also mentioned something about an upcoming birthday party. I'm glad she's being treated so well. Her family no longer worries about her and neither do I.
