I am a friend or relative of a current/past resident

Barton House is just amazing in every way. They have 20 rooms and the complex was completely remodeled after the 2021 Texas ice freeze. it is light and airy with even a lake behind the wrought iron fence in the back yard. My LO goes out almost everyday. Showers are outside the room and this works very well as in his previous facility he would undress and try to cleanup up himself. Each room has it’s own sink and toilet. The owner and management treat the staff well and therefore there are many long term staff who really give loving, individualized care. Showers, room cleaning, meals are frequent plus as needed. My LO has been there eight months. You won’t be disappointed.

I am an only child of a single mother. When my mom got sick it was one of the hardest times of my life . She was in and out of facilities that where depressing and in my option , inhumane ! and only care about $. On my way to the hospital with my mom after pulling her out of one of these facilities. I called the barton house with my mom next to me and with tears in a grown man eyes , Ronda a ( angel) form the barton house answered the phone... a answer to prayers ... With compassion and care she informed that they understand and the owner had a similar experience with his mother and started the barton as a result. I then spoke to Katie the Manger who was just as caring and compassionate. This is a direct reflection on ownership. In my option Compassion and Caring is what is missing in this industry ... I would rather have my mother in a dump where I could sleep at night know she is being CARED FOR. Oh and guess what, the place is amazing , on a lake , cook on site, salon, etc etc five stars... trust me I have seen quite a few. So why say all this , am I getting a discount ? fake review...etc etc . Nope, my mom is there now. Just a son to another son or daughter out there with no hope with a tear in there eye. my hope is that the Lord Jesus Christ will lead you there like he did me.

I visited this facility

Barton House Memory Care had a low ceiling and was old and depressing. There was too much furniture in the living room. All of the people were sitting down. The rooms looked sad. They had toilets and sinks in the rooms, but they would take the residents to the communal shower, which we don't like at all.

Provider Response

Dear CM - I am sorry to hear that we didn’t meet your expectations on your recent visit to Barton House. We’ve been providing specialized memory care services in Sugar Land since 1999, and we’ve never heard descriptions like that. We think our building and staff are the best in the industry, so we’d love for you to come back by for another visit and see what Uncommon Care is all about.

We chose The Barton House because of its size. It doesn’t have a lot of patients, so we felt like my grandmother would get attention there. We really like the person that we met with and gave us a tour. We really enjoyed that. We enjoy that it is dedicated just to patients that have dementia. We like that they serve the patients' food and that the patients are able to eat on their own or get help if they need to. We really felt like my grandmother would fit there. The staff is helpful and kind. The Barton House is not really very fancy, but it is a home for people with dementia, so there are not a lot of things, but it is nice. Outside of the rooms, they have a memory box where you can put whatever will help them remember that that’s their room. The room itself has a bed and a cabinet. That’s really it. They have a nice big garden. They have a nice outside area that is all locked in, so the patients can go their on their own. They have a nutritionist work on her diet, and they have accommodated our dietary restriction, so it is really nice.

Provider Response

Thank you so much for your kind response about our Alzheimer's residence in Sugar Land. We are so happy to have your grandmother as part of the Barton House family. Hope you can come and enjoy our great backyard with your loved one as the weather gets a bit cooler!

I am a friend or relative of a resident

My mother was an Alzheimer's patient and lived in The Barton House until she passed away in October and I cannot say enough about how caring and skilled the staff of this facility is. They treat each and every person as though they are family members, extending not only excellent care, but even love to the residents. Barton House is a small, intimate facility and is always well maintained. The food is very good and served four times a day to prevent the resident's from losing weight, as they tend to do with dementia. The residents themselves are kept clean and groomed to ensure their dignity. Each day, their hair is combed and styled and they are dressed in their own clothes. Those who need it are excercized regularly and family members may visit 24 hours per day. They even have a walled-in garden on a lake with pathways and a gazebo for the residents and family to enjoy. My mother needed the stimulation of being with others of her own age and condition and participating in group activities, which were always age and condition appropriate. As much as I worried about taking her from our home, I found the overall quality of her life improved and that the care she received there was the best possible. I would unreservedly recommend The Barton House to any family with an Alzheimer's sufferer in the family. They are absolutely the best, both for the resident and the resident's family. If any of the staff read this, thank you for taking such good care of Moosie.

Other

My Mother was a resident of this facility. She was asked to leave another facility due to agressive behavior they could not handle. Barton House attendants took about 5 days to work with my Mom and figure out how to redirect this behavior. They were wonderful, all of them; each and every employee from the director to the handiman, even the hospice workers they used!! When we needed Hospice for my Dad we called the same workers for his assistance! You could not ask for a more caring and loving place for a loved one suffering from this horrible disease!!! I will never be able to thank them enough!

Visited this facility

I accompanied a friend of mine to visit her grandmother who is currently a resident at Barton House in Sugarland, TX. My first thoughts upon arrival were that the exteriors were appealing. This place has great curb appeal. The grounds are very well maintained. The lawn is trim and neat and there were lots of flowers planted around the facility. I saw some of the residents being assisted on a walk around the courtyard. Upon entering the building, I noticed that the staff was very friendly and helpful and seemed to genuinely enjoy their jobs. I was impressed with the cleanliness of the facility and the staff's diligence. This seems like a quite a nice place for the elderly to stay.

About Barton House in Sugar Land, Texas

When a loved one is diagnosed with Alzheimer's disease, it's difficult to know what to do. Home care is simply not feasible for most families today. And the alternative, institutionalization in the locked wing of a nursing home, is far from ideal.

In fact, most cognitively impaired people don't need the regimented care provided in a nursing home. What they need is a place designed specifically for them. With an environment that feels like a home, not a hospital. And a program of care that stresses individuality and interpersonal contact.

All of the staff at Barton House receive special training in working with the cognitively impaired. And all are hired as much for their belief in the basic dignity of every person as for their professional skills.
