We toured Blue Skies of Texas West. You have an investment that you make that can be and probably would be very substantial for some people. The difference from the other place is the upfront cost. The community is excellent. We took a tour, but we also went for a luncheon there, and they have a professional chef on staff who prepares the meal. The person who gave us the tour was very connected, very interested in us, and made sure that we understood every aspect that we would need, to be able to make a decision about their facility. The dining area is like a cafeteria style where it's got a lot of tables, but people get to come and eat, and they get an option. You could select how many meals a day you want to partake in or participate in. If they just want one big meal a day, then that's what they can have. If they want to have almost like a restaurant kind of setting, then that's what they can get also. So they have a lot of options for the food. However, on the preparation side, there's a professional staff that is there that prepare the food for all the residents. You almost feel that you've stepped into a restaurant when we were there with the setting and the sweet staff, and having the excellence of the chef on the property all the time. They have many, many groups, and they have many options for the residents to be able to participate in. They have walking trails. They have all kinds of outdoor activities. They have pools and they have options for people who want to participate in pool recreation and also pool fitness activities.

We toured Blue Skies of Texas. They offered some options from building our own house, so we have a floor plan that we want and we all live in the thing, and then of course when we die, they get the house. They also offered us existing houses. They also showed us in descending order, going from independent houses, into duplexes where you have a house, parking garages in between those other houses. And they've also shown us apartments in the towers, which we rejected pretty quickly. They were very small. My library wouldn't even fit into the places. Right now, it's the best place we looked at. The people working there were very good. We even argued with one of them over something and she stood her point. She had evidence and stuff that supported her. She didn't change because she saw that we were not liking what she was saying and she stuck to it. She showed us the evidence. She showed us information, and I thought that was great. The structures were good. The cleanliness was good. The hallways, when you enter the elevators, the closets, they were all clean. The cleaning staff did a very good job of it and continues to do a good job on the place. You can find what you want there.

My mother is in Blue Skies of Texas. She's been there for 22 years. She must have liked it because she stayed there for long. It's very nice there. It is a bit more expensive than where my mom-in-law is, but it also has more facilities. They have an indoor swimming pool. They're helpful, but they have a lot of people to look after, so I feel they're sometimes a little bit quicker with you. They had lots of activities, but with the virus, all of that has been shut down. Right now, she's in assisted living. We had to up our game about a year ago. The independent and the assisted living are all in the same building.

My wife was at Blue Skies of Texas for rehab after she broke her hip in August of last year. They did everything they're supposed to do. It's clean, they had security, they were always there when she needed them, and she wasn't locked up confined. She could push her button, and somebody would answer. I could call and I would always get somebody on the phone.

We went to Blue Skies of Texas. They had a nice, brick, beautiful house. It was 1,600 sq. ft. and had everything that you could possibly want in it. But the idea is that you buy in, and so the house was gonna cost $200,000 that I had to put up. On top of that, you pay your fees, which are $4,000 a month. That includes our meals and all that, but the chances of us living more than ten years are kind of not there. So at that point we lose everything because we don't get any rebate, we don't get anything back on the $200,000. I'd rather use it on something that would benefit us. You have to live there over ten years before you start to get money back on the house. That's the only downturn, but the place is beautiful. It's nice that it's all there. They come in once a week and they can clean your house, they dust it, they do everything, they change light fixtures, they take care of the yard; I don't have to call somebody to come in and do the yard. They just take care of everything. All I would do is do a little cooking, and if I don't want to cook, we can ride over to the main dining room or they can bring it to us. The lady that showed us around was excellent. She was real nice, she asked another couple to come and talk to us from their point of view; they lived in the apartment. It was nice to hear from somebody else. We had a light lunch with them, and that was very, very nice. The food was good, but it was limited because they had the dining room closed, and they bring them their food. It was beautiful when you go in. They had a big meeting room, the dining room is in the basement, but it's beautiful, and it's huge. When you walk into the building, it looks almost like a hotel. They have all kinds of activities in there, they have all kinds of art works done by members that live there, they have a lot of arts and crafts, they have a huge library. It's more like being in a resort; excellent. I would recommend them to anybody that can afford it, and that is still young enough to enjoy it.

We truly feel so lucky we found Blue Skies Freedom House (memory care). We had no idea our time remaining with my father in law would be so short but through all our challenges the Blue Skies community remained truly compassionate and comforting. While the facility itself was very nice, his room was regularly cleaned and the entire facility was bright and cheerful, it was the staff members that made all the difference. Every staff person we met, from those providing the full care of my father in law to those we just passed in the halls, to the doctors, nurses, aides and administration support, were cheerful, friendly, respectful and so caring. My father in law regularly said everyone was taking such good care of him and we know everyone did all they could to tend to his comfort. The respect and honor demonstrated by the staff was truly fitting of such an honorable man.
