I am a friend or relative of a current/past resident

My husband went there for rehab. I was excited about San Gabriel until I got there. It isn’t as advertised. I found the staff and nurses lacking. The food is terrible. I will be bringing in food for him if I don’t take him out of there. The recommendation I was given had 4 stars. This isn’t a 4 star establishment.

I am a friend or relative of a current/past resident

I have been in the building regularly, engaging with many if not most of the people in admin, many nurses, CNAs and social workers etc since 2017. My POV is varied and long-term. I don’t think anyone is actively abusing my relative & there are a few employees there who care about the residents. My Grandad was admitted to San Gabriel in 2017 after a stroke. They continued to feed my Grandad when his stomach was clearly distended and he wasn’t digesting at all; he was dying and they kept shoving food in the tube. He went on hospice for a short while -far too short for a place that should be well-versed in the dying process- and died. My grandma has been admitted to San Gabriel after 2 injuries and then moved there as a resident. The people there are just doing a job and checking boxes and don’t seem to care very much about quality of life or details. Poor pay for employees equates to poor quality care. Hiring kind people willing to go the extra mile just isn’t going to happen when you can’t hire enough people or pay them what it’s worth for them to look at it as anything other than drudgery that includes old, smelly, weak, rude, confused and or incontinent patients. If you want anything done here, you have to create a paperwork trail. My grandmother’s clothes and personal bedding were disappearing although they were all clearly labeled. All sorts of pjs showed up with her name on them. You can’t just write a person’s name on a random shirt and gaslight them that it was theirs. Her vision deteriorated until she was legit blind and no procedures changed. I think bc employees knew her when she had a little vision they just ignored that her abilities changed, even after I put a written request for new care plan. Her food is supposed to be on a plate with a little fence so it doesn’t fall off, and cut up for her. It’s been about 6 or 8 months and it still isn’t. They changed her cup color so she can see it better -not helpful if she’s BLIND. People don’t introduce themselves when they come in so she knows someone is there. Recently she got a light case of covid and was put in quarantine. They gave us a new room# and phone#. We were never able to reach her on it. I called the front desk to get updates on her condition, got transferred, it rings for literally 7-10 minutes, I call back, I get transferred to voicemails, I leave messages, I get no callback. I went up to the facility to find out what’s going on and find she’s been moved to another room (another phone number) and we weren’t updated. Still no callbacks. She finally answers her phone and talks about needing her talking clock, lotion, tissue box, electric razor, and for all that’s holy, A GLASS OF WATER, and she can’t find the trash can. These are things that should’ve moved rooms with her. And if she has the items and can’t find them bc she’s blind, why can’t anyone spend 45 seconds with her to help her locate them?? Only when you start a formal complaint does anyone spend two minutes to do these simple compassionate acts.

I am/was a resident of this facility

Everyone was very nice except of a couple nurses. I’m very mad because I had them do my laundry but they lost some of my clothes and now they are coming up with every excuse in the book. I feel they owe me money for my lost clothes. I love going to Rehab for physical and occupational therapy they are the best

I visited this facility

Tried desperately to get my father here, due to the location. Was given the run a round for a week and then told he did not qualify for Medicaid when I had two homes that stated that he did. Refused to call back. Did not even look at our financial records. Blatantly lied to me and my mother. We are good people that really could have used their understanding and help in a time of need. If they treated us like this how would they treat your loved ones!!!

My mother was admitted to San Gabriel Rehabilitation And Care Center following hip surgery. While there she contracted covid extending her stay. The day after her discharge she ended up in the hospital for dehydration, malnutrition, UTI and a bacterial infection. Also her BP was 70/30. That place needs to be shut down immediately. One star is more than they deserve.

I am a friend or relative of a current/past resident

My mother was a resident here for about a year. She passed May 8th. During this horrible pandemic, the staff, nurses, EVERYONE in this facility checked our temperatures, made us wash our hands, put gloves on us, new masks and a cloth robe to wear while inside. We were able to sit with my mom and be with her until her last breath. The facility took every single measure to make sure the residents and staff were safe. I always saw staff being attentive, caring and loving. If I had to make the choice to admit a loved one to this facility I would do again. No one has control of this virus, unfortunately it is the inevitable. I thank everyone at San Gabriel for their hard work, determination and too keep all staff and residents safe.

My grandmother stayed here for a few weeks and she ended up having a stroke. This place is horrible. They messed with her meds and she hated every minute here. In addition, the halls reeked of urine and the nursing staff didn’t seem to pay attention to anything going on with the patients. This was the beginning of the end of my grandmother’s life and I know this facility played a role in that. She begged everyone to get her out of this awful place.

Amazing care and nice facility. Thank you to the nurses/cna's that cared for my dad. He passed in the facility, but he was very sick and our family was very impressed with the love of the staff. They didn't make it look like it was their job as they cared not only for my dad, but for our family. I tough life event was an amazing experience due to those inside San Gabriel.

I visited this facility

In August 2016 I visited this facility "for future reference" for elderly parents. I couldn't find anything to be impressed with, starting with the smell when I walked in.. But mostly it was the marketing/sales person. She never did offere me one single bit of information; she made me ask every question. I even had to ask if I could go on a tour (again, didn't offer). Never got a straight answer about how many rooms or beds there were. At the end of the tour I asked if I could have a copy of the activity calendar and a recent menu and she went over to her printer and then said "oh, my printer doesn't print legal-sized". I have visited all the nursing homes and assisted living facilities in Round Rock and Pflugerville and this was my strangest experience. First impressions count. P.S. I don't recall the woman's name but it WAS her full-time job, because ultimately I asked her that.

San Gabriel Rehabilitation & Care Center is OK. They treat him very well, and the only problem that we are having right now is they moved him into a room with a roommate and my dad is not very happy with that roommate. But he's very happy with the food, and the people that are taking care of him; that's the most important thing. I have tasted the food, and it's very good. They're home-cooked meals. They keep them active, and they encourage the residents to be active. The furniture needs some updating.

The building and grounds are beautiful, modern, well kept, very clean and orderly. More importantly, the staff was extremely caring and well trained. The entire process from pre-admission with Leaha, until my fathers recent passing was very organized, reasonably priced, compassionate, and family centric. My family would like to extend our special thanks to Marioma and her entire nursing team for their kind and compassionate treatment of my father. I would highly recommend this facility to anyone who is in need of elder care for their loved ones.

I visited this facility

I toured San Gabriel a few weeks ago and found that this facility exceeded my expectations of nursing homes. The quality of staff and the amenities such as their court yard garden and therapy center in my opinion was just wonderful. I am not yet at the point of needing to live in a nursing facility but I am beginning to look at future locations to live in sometime in the future. Spacious dining rooms allows me to be mobile and I very much enjoyed that they offered Sunday Church services. I would be happy to move into such a wonderful community when the time comes.
