I am a friend or relative of a current/past resident

This nursing home's management staff members don't accept calls regarding the patients needs and they are not friendly to the patient's friends or family or the patient either, in my experience at this establishment The nursing home is big and very nice but they don't have enough staff to cover the hours needed to be full for seeing to each of the resident's needs. If a family member is upset with another family member, the management chooses sides and will go out of their way to stop the other family member from having any contact with the resident and that to me is unacceptable. They should remain neutral in cases of that nature. It should be between the family and not any of the staff to keep one family member away just because the other family member has problems with said family member, especially if the resident wants to have contact with their loved one. I would not recommend this nursing home for anyone's loved ones because I feel our elderly deserve the very best and they certainly don't get that here at Heritage House nursing home.

I visited this facility

To be a big nursing home, they have so few patients, the morning staff are extremely friendly and helpful but while we were there shift changed happened and the afternoon shift wasn’t as friendly. The patients all seemed extremely happy and well cared for, the only downsides that we saw was #1 the inside of the building needs a major overhaul, It looks so outdated! #2, Some floors in a few of the rooms were extremely sticky. We felt like housekeeping could step it up. #3 We heard from several patients that the food is terrible, but we did not have the opportunity to try anything.

Questions to ask: 1. Is the facility staffed to meet the needs of the patients 7 days a week? (Current answer is NO) 2. How does the staff relate current patient needs to other staff members? (Currently there is a great deal of miscommunication that results in negligence of care for patient needs) 3. When care plan meetings are held, how does the leadership team communicate the determined needs to the staff, and how long does this take? (My dad died prior to agreed upon actions were put in place.) 4. How do you insure that quality staff is present and informed about the facility as well as the patients, when “agency” staff is predominantly utilized? 5. If you are aware of staff shortages for any time period, is there a plan in place for leadership staff to work additional hours in order to prevent patient needs from being neglected? (Staff reported needing assistance and leadership staff did not answer calls to assist staff with patient care and information.)

I visited this facility

Originally, I rated Heritage 2 months ago. To this day, I'm still extremely impressed by what I see concerning the care of the patients. The facility is clean in appearance and in smell. It is run with the precision of a good hospital. The staff appears to be compassionate, caring and they appear to take pride in their work. Clients are engaged with activities, including therapy. There are three physical therapists and pet therapy (parakeets) to engage residents. Our church community is welcomed each month to minister in song and in sermonettes. We thoroughly enjoy speaking with, praying with, and loving the patients at Heritage Home. They Brighten our day.

I am a friend or relative of a current/past resident

My dad was in this nursing home as it was close to us. After a week or two they complained that he was giving them problems. He has dementia. They sent home to a Behavioral Unit for like 20 days. They had no issues with him. Heritage agreed to take him back long enough to get their money and they sent him packing, allowing social security to be sent back and Medicare lapse to where nothing was covered. Now they're claiming he owes them $300 instead of accepting his social security check and forwarding to the new care unit like they should have. I do not recommend this place to put your loved one.

I wouldn't put a loved one in Heritage Quitman. Some good nursing staff but often neglectful. A lot of personnel changes often. Even staff doesn't have a lot to say about the quality.

I am a friend or relative of a resident

The Heritage Nursing Home is great. It’s everything that we could expect and more. They handled my relative’s type of illness. Most all the rooms that I’ve seen are single patients in each room; they’re all very nice. The staff is so good and so caring. They keep the family updated; they have conferences with you every 3 months to give you a progress report. We’re very pleased with it.

I am a friend or relative of resident

My relative is in this facility and the nursing assistants show genuine love and care for the residents. Unfortunately, there has not been any attention paid to the upkeep or modernization of the facility. Of major importance, the living quarters are subpar in the dementia/Alzheimer’s care ward. The rooms are small and administration is squeezing in two residents into a room. This may be ok if these were short term stays but for most this is now home. Additionally, the activity room is very sparse and there are not many comforts there or in the outside section. With just a very few dollars and planning, this nursing home could rise to the top. They should either build more accomdations for residents that need locked doors, or reduce the population of their intakes in that unit.
