When we toured Mirabella Assisted Living, I was under the impression that it was independent living, but have since been told it's assisted living. The facilities there are nice but old. The room apartments are large and have good closet space. Some of these assisted living places think that the people in assisted living don't need to bring very many clothes, so they have minuscule closets, but that's not the case at Mirabella Assisted Living. The kitchens are nice. The closets have nice spaces. It's just an older facility, and you have to expect it to be a little darker than some of the others. I looked at the menu and it looked nutritious and good. The staff member who gave us a tour was very good and nice. She was very patient with an old lady that had lots of questions. It's an older building and it's multi-story. I didn't want to be up on the third or fourth floor, I wanted to be on the first floor. So that's what we've looked at, a one bedroom with lots of room on the first floor.

Mirabella Assisted Living was fine, but it was larger, and it was more expensive, and we didn't like the feel of it as well. They have a dining room and some activity rooms. The staff members were friendly and kind and everything, but nothing stood out. They didn't seem to be overly happy to be there or anything like that.

We liked Mirabella Assisted Living. It was good. We seriously considered it for Dad. We met the director. We did the tour, and we ate eat a meal over there and the food was OK. The problem I have with the menus is they have pasta and then they have a protein on top of it, so they have spaghetti with meatballs or they had pasta with chicken like chicken Alfredo. For someone that doesn't like pasta, there's really no choice. They have another menu that you can choose from, which is a sandwich, hamburger, salad, or something like that. I didn't like that part. They had a nice garden and a courtyard and it's secure. I liked the director of memory care. She was nice. We looked at a semi-private apartment. It had a kitchen in there, and then it had two bedrooms that had full doors and walls, so that was good. One of the bedrooms had a small closet and the other bedroom had a large walk-in closet. The problem with them for us was the way they charge. Most of the time, memory care would have an all-inclusive price, but they didn't have that. When we were trying to figure out the pricing or how they figure their scoring, it took a little bit for them to finally give us the criteria of what they scored on. They did an assessment on him and they came back with this price and this level of care and we felt like they didn't score him high enough. We thought he would be at a higher level of care, but it should cost more. When we said that to them, they didn't understand what we were saying because they went back and they redid his assessment and lowered his score even more. I would have rather them score him high and then if it wasn't that, drop it down after he had been there for a month or two months, but to drop it down just to lower the price, I feel like that level of care thing was just a ploy. I understand my dad's dementia and what he goes through, so what procedures do they have in place? He had a stroke, so his level of care would automatically go up because of the stroke. So, what's their plan to staff that? They couldn't explain that to me. I just didn't feel comfortable with their philosophy. We saw their activity calendar and it looked good.

I liked Mirabella Assisted Living. The people seemed happy, and they had a special that helped. We really liked the room. Everybody just seemed so happy and nice. The rooms were large. They had large closets. They had a lot of light. They had vinyl flooring that would be easy for a handicapped person to maneuver. The employees that we talked to seemed happy.

We went to visit Mirabella Assisted Living. Their facilities were a bit dated, and the memory care was at the back of the building. They had a rustic lobby where you come in, parking was a little bit limited, and they didn't have the outdoor facilities that the other places I toured had. They've got a couple of little architectural alcoves where people can go out and sit, but they do not have good grounds around the building. They were a little short on parking and a little short on the outside capabilities. They were very attentive before I visited, and when I visited, they took good care of me, made sure I had all the information I needed, and gave me the tours and let me know what they had. Their biggest drawback was not anything that had to do with their facility, but the way they set up the memory care unit. You have a private room, but you share a bathroom. And unfortunately, with my mother's paranoia, that wasn't going to work. They have a nutritionist and chef. It was cozy because it was a little dark, but it was not everybody's cup of tea.

My mother-in-law is in Mirabella. They have been great trying to help get everything that she needs. They are very responsive. There's a pager button, laundry, wi-fi, and cable. She had to do quarantine, but you can go to the cafeteria or eat in your room. I was able to eat in there with her, and the food was good.
