We went to visit Brookdale Westover Hills. It is fabulous. It's smaller, but it's immaculately clean, and after every person moves out they do a lot of painting and carpet repair. It's very bright. The apartments or the assisted living, they don't have even a small kitchen facility. They have just a medium-sized refrigerator with a little freezer on top and a microwave, and there's no room for anything else. I was looking at it. This is kind of hard for me to even find a place to put the coffee pot, because that's how small the dining areas in those apartments are. At least the one I saw, because they are assisted living, and their point is to encourage you to come down to the dining room and make friends and be sociable. So there's very little in the way of kitchen facilities in the apartment, but they are very nice. Some of them have balconies, and some of them have just patios, depending on what floor they're on. They have multiple elevators. But, for you to be admitted there, you have to be able to go down one set of stairs in X number of minutes. If you can't do that, they don't accept your application, and that makes sense. If the elevators go out, you being in a multistory building could have a real problem though. They've got nice facilities all over that building. They've got game rooms, they've got craft rooms, they've got a TV viewing room. They've got small reading rooms where residents who would like the same interests could meet in those rooms. In the dining area, I didn't see the food, but the dining area looked like a posh restaurant and the menu book, I saw the menu for March and it looked very good. Most of them do, if you're not happy with the regular menu, they usually have some alternative. This one did have something not to turn it to the rest. The bathrooms are nice, and at least in the assisted living that I went into, the bathroom was nice. It was large. There was enough room if you needed it to get into it with a wheelchair, and when they played around it, it had enough grab bars for you to get to the shower (easy and so forth). The staff member was very good. She's been with them a long time. She gave a lot of information. She did a very thorough tour. She's not in the money area, so there was no discussion of costs with her. That's not her job, her jobs are the tours.

My mother-in-law moved into Brookdale Westover Hills last week. There isn't anything that we have not liked. All of the staff and the residents are very friendly, kind and happy. The facility itself is very well-kept, and it's easy to find your way around. There's always someone around to help you should you get lost. It's large enough without being too large. The food is delicious. We had chicken-fried steak, a wonderful apple cobbler, and their dinner salads. My mother-in-law had several different items that she enjoyed. She gets to choose from roughly five entrees for every meal, plus choosing which vegetables she would like. She can choose what she would like to drink and what she would like for dessert for every single meal, and it's all very fresh and nice. They also invite and encourage family members to dine with the residents. And if they don't want to eat in the dining room on a given day, they can go and get their lunch to go. They'll package it all up for them to bring them back to their room, or they will deliver it to them if that's what they choose. They have a lot of choices along the way, which means at that age in a place like this, they can feel like they still have control. They have an actual movie theater with about 15 recliners. On every floor, they have multiple meeting places where residents can work jigsaw puzzles. They have one that's a designated library. They have a workout room and a couple of rooms for group meetings like Bible study, and things like that. They have field trips where they can go to two different stores. They have people come in to entertain at least once a week. Every day they put something under their door to let them know what the activities are for the day and if there's anything that they need to be aware of. In the elevators, it's also posted What the activities are for the entire month and also for the day. There are four floors, and every floor is near the center of the hall. There are super comfortable chairs. And I think if the resident needs to stop and rest before they get to the end or whatever, there are multiple places like that on every floor. There are multiple restrooms everywhere, too, so they're pretty accommodating.

My father will be moving into Brookdale Westover Hills. Communicating with the people was very easy to do. They're very open to being flexible with the tour. We saw the memory care area and the director of memory care spoke with us, did a tour of that area, and she was very knowledgeable. I liked the amenities there. It's designed and developed for a memory care person. It's more than what you typically find in a facility like that. The menus looked good. They're not the same menus that I've seen at other facilities, so that was important also. He's getting a semi-private room. It looks like it's going to have enough storage and it's going to be adequate for his needs. The community rooms are well positioned so that they can have visitors. The whole idea is that you're not going to be in your room that much, so the rooms don't have to be big and lavish or anything like that. The goal is to get them out of their rooms. I think it's going to work out well. The two rooms share a bath. There's like a little bit more than a three-quarter wall between the two bedrooms. They have a room that has specific activities if you want to do games or whatever. They also have stuff geared towards men, and it wasn't all just like puzzles and checkers. They had different things that they could put together or sort things to kind of help them with their dexterity and their memory.

The tour at Brookdale Westover Hills was good. The only thing is we barely saw any residents out and about, and maybe that was a fluke, but my mom and I didn't like that. We wanted to see more people interacting in the social areas, and we didn't. Maybe we came at a bad time. My mom's very loving and she's very friendly, and she wants people to be around and up and about, and that place was like everybody was in their rooms. The staff who gave the tour was great. The room or apartment was like a mid-level hotel. The upkeep looks fine. The dining area was much smaller than the other place we toured, but it was a smaller facility. It looked like it had cafeteria-style dining. They weren't utilizing their dining room because of COVID, but they were reopening the dining room this week.

Brookdale Westover Hills looked good and homey. The staff was very open, very caring, and very good. They talked about visitation and you can take them out when you need to. They have games there to play. It's overall pretty good.

I toured Brookdale Westover Hills for my friend, and it was very eye opening, because I didn't know anything about that. The place was clean, and the apartment was nice, so I have really good comments about it. The person who assisted us was very friendly and very nice. She told me everything that I needed to do and what the process was. I've seen the dining area, and it looks very good. There were no activities when I was there -- everybody was in their room -- but I think there were some people sitting downstairs. They had a beauty salon and a barber shop in there, but I could not see it because the door was closed.
