I visited this facility

Parkwood Healthcare was in lockdown for COVID when we toured the place. I didn't see any residents, so I didn't get any feel of how they felt about the place. It was clean and neat. The person I spoke to did not seem to be as knowledgeable about alternatives for funding. She was very nice and very pleasant, but her level of knowledge was just kind of generic.

Provider Response

Michele, thank you for providing feedback to our community. We aim to provide five-star experiences and welcome the opportunity to discuss any concern to ensure a five-star experience moving forward. If you would like to discuss your comments further, please reach out to Akash Bhatia, Executive Director.

The rooms are nice. The staff will give you the run around especially about MEDS. Some times they say there out of meds even though we buy them by the month so how how can they be out.The food is not up to par as I have tried at 2 other facilities that house friends of the family that seemed very good. The staff told my mom they didnt have her medicine and it would be 4 days to get more. The staff order the meds every month so how can they run out.I pay the bills and know what meds are delivered every month. Frustrated!

Provider Response

Our goal is to always provide exceptional experiences and we are sorry to hear of your frustration. I hope you'll afford us the opportunity to resolve your issues. Please contact our Executive Director, Akash Bhatia to further discuss.

My mother spent 3 years at Parkwood. The staff went over and above the call of duty to make sure that she was well taken care of. The director and his entire staff were amazing. They know every resident by name and check on them regular (if needed). I would recommend Parkwood to anyone looking for a home for themselves or a family member.

Provider Response

Thank you very much. We truly appreciate you taking the time to share your thoughts with us. We loved having your Mom as part of our community and appreciate your family's kindness to us over the years. Thank you again so very much!

My sister had been living independently but due to a fall and resulting handicap it was best that she live where she could have some assistance. Thank heavens we found Parkwood in Bedford Texas. The staff genuinely cares about each resident and goes above and beyond to see that everyone there feels important and loved. The meal service is well above average and many many social activities are offered. I find this facility truly exceptional! Emily Schwartz

My mother recently became a resident of Parkwood after being in my home 8 years. The transition was necessary as her cognitive abilities have deteriorated. I have to work, and she can’t be left alone. Parkwood has really amazed me! From the moment I came to check out the facility the staff was helpful, warm and welcoming. My mother has temporarily been in 6 different “skilled nursing” and/or “assisted living” centers due to her health, falls or other needs, and I have watched closely. Parkwood is by far the very best facility I have found — I would not leave her in the previous ones. The facility is clean and has an adequate number of staff (something you don’t find everywhere). The staff is accommodating and caring. All I have to do is call or text and I get the answers to my questions or guidance to the solution I seek. I can’t say enough good things about what we have experienced… you can trust these people with the care of your elderly relative! I highly recommend them.

Provider Response

Thank you for sharing your mother's story! Earning your trust through personalized care and support is our highest priority. We love to exceed expectations and are pleased this has been your experience. We look forward to your family being a part of our Parkwood family for years to come.

Have heard your social worker impossible to deal with-will make my own judgement shortly. After calling six times to the administrator and his asst. And no return phone call and then being informed of a power of atty by my Dad's 'girlfriend' and my ex-husband--i still believe my phone calls rate a return call. I do not know the scope of your tx, but my Dad tells me he "lays there all day and watches tv". No therapy, no assisted walks, NOTHING? No assisted bathing? REALLY? He has no dentures or hearing aids and zero appts to get them? Seems to me these matters would be dealt with. And activities?? "Lays there all day, everyday and watches tv" He gets fed three times a day and takes his meds- so I part with a positive.

We like Parkwood Healthcare because we have had very good experiences with them in the past; my mother-in-law, my wife's aunt, and my father all lived there. The place is clean. My sister will be in a pod that only has eighteen people in it. They all sit together and eat together in the same dining room, and they use the same activity rooms. The room overlooks the garden, and it's a bigger room than most other facilities, so there's more space. They play bingo and they have entertainers who come in. The day that we went through the first time, an accordionist was playing polka music, but they also have other people coming in with entertainment. They have a common area where they can watch TV and have some social contact. It's small enough where everybody knows everybody. In terms of activities, take your pick -- they keep them entertained. The atmosphere is friendly, warm, and welcoming, and everyone seems to be smiling, even the workers. We're happy with the selection and my sister is happy. It's absolutely clean, there's no bad smell, but it has a very clean smell.

Provider Response

Thank you for your kind words. We are so glad your sister is enjoying living at Parkwood Assisted Living. We strive to be the best place possible for residents to thrive, living to their fullest potential, while making friends and having tons of fun along the way.

I visited this facility

The tour we had with Parkwood Healthcare was very satisfying and very informative. The person who gave us the tour answered all our questions and provided more information than we had asked for in order to make sure we fully understood their services. Their price was a little high, but the price included a lot of things that the other facilities charged as a set of additional prices. The rooms were more than satisfactory. We didn't get to see the large room since we were going for smaller rooms. The rooms have plenty of space and are laid out very nicely. They have the necessary emergency-alarm systems in place, twenty-four-hour nursing availability, and doctors on standby. They have free meals, physical therapy and memory care in place, game rooms, gathering rooms, communication rooms, and outdoor facilities for them with shade, which is important here in Texas. Right now, we're considering Parkwood Healthcare for my brother.

Provider Response

Thank you for your kind words, Mitchel! While we strive to be the best option for families, we understand that sometimes we're not a fit. We enjoyed meeting you and appreciate your candor. Should things change in the future, please keep us in mind.

My sister moved into Parkwood Healthcare, and it's very nice. The staff is also very nice, very knowledgeable, and very helpful. My sister doesn't talk about her room because she has dementia, and I can only say based on what I have seen through video that it's very nice. She is in assisted living, and they have memory care if that is needed in the future. They are keeping me updated about her, and they're good with that. They have a piano, which she enjoys playing, and a courtyard, and the facility is clean, too.

Provider Response

Nelda, it is truly an honor to have earned this amazing review! We are honored that you chose Parkwood Healthcare to care for your sister. We appreciate your trust in our team members, and we are grateful for the opportunity to support her and you. Thank you for taking the time to share your experience with us!

My mom is still in rehab at Parkwood in Bedford, and she's in the Covid unit right now. She's been there for about six weeks or maybe even closer to two months. She has been in the independent living side, and she has an apartment there. She had some friends over there, so that's where we put her for rehab. We really don't know if she'll be able to go back to her apartment or not. My mother loves the staff a lot and she doesn't really want to go anywhere else, but I would have to say that the upper management has not been very forthcoming with us and we have felt frustrated at times though I know they have a lot of people to take care of. The staff that takes care of my mother is very nice and she likes them a lot, so they must treat her very nicely. She says she likes the food though I've never seen it. The facility is nice and clean and when she was in the rehab, she had a big window that she could stay at, and she really liked that.

Provider Response

Sharon, thank you for sharing your experience. We appreciate everyone's trust in our team members, and we are grateful for the opportunity to support our residents and their family members. We are happy to pass along your comments to the team here at Parkwood Healthcare. Again, thank you for taking the time to share your experience with us!

My brother is in Parkwood Senior Living Healthcare. He loves it, they're great people. His room is what you'd expect, it's got a Jack and Jill bathroom, and it's nice. It's a room, it's utilitarian, and not a home by any means, it's a rehab place. The employees are very confident and caring. They get to know their people and residents. They're proactive, if they see a need they don't wait for the person to ask, they offer whatever assistance is needed. They're very concerned about their people. There's housekeeping twice a month.

Stay away from this SNF. They didn't want to give my father liquids or help him with eating after his stroke. He spent 26 days in rehab hospital where he was making great strides and everyone loved him. He was good the first 2 days at Parkwood and then was not himself. I was constantly asking about his meds, if he ate, what he ate, what he drank, etc. He was not himself starting on day 3. He got severely volume dehydrated from lack of liquids and they crushed his b/p time (which were time release over 24 hrs) and that gave him entire meds in system all at once. They gave him pain meds when he didn't need. Never took pain meds at home. Gave hime b/p meds when his b/p was normal causing it to drop too low. On day 7, I arrived and looked at him and knew something was wrong. Asked them to take his b/p and it was 70/40. They were not interested in making sure he was doing well. I ended up calling 911 to get him back to the hospital. The severe dehydration and b/p dropping so low due to them crushing the pills contributed significantly to his death a few days later. Don't trust these people.

My dad had a stroke and went to a rehab hospital til insurance no longer paid and then we took him to Parkwood to continue rehab until we could get his home ready. I explained he had bad eyesight and needed help as he could not yet transfer himself. He went there for therapy. I'm not sure what kind of therapy he got but the one day I was there for it, it lasted less than 15 minutes. On the 3rd day, he started getting fuzzy and not right, would improve later in day, and same thing repeated. Speech Therapy would not allow him water but only small sips of a thickened liquid. Then they started crushing his blood pressure (time released) meds which is a big NO-NO. I learned they were doing this too late. His bp would drop significantly by mid-morning so they didn't give therapy. They did not help him eat and several times gave him nothing to drink with his meals. I was there. They gave him BP meds when he didn't need them which caused his BP to drop significantly. On 7th day, I walked in and immediately saw something was wrong. OT had been working with him and said nothing. I asked nurse to check his BP and it was 70/40. Seems there response is always just to put patient in bed. He acquired horrible bed sores in such a short time. I ended up calling 911 and getting him to the ER at hospital. Between the severe dehydration and the over-dosing of meds due to crushing them, he was in horrible condition. I don't recommend this facility for anyone that cannot advocate for themselves. I honestly believe had I not moved him, he would have been dead the following morning.

My mom couldn’t get anybody to help her go to the restroom all day long and for her dinner one day all they gave her was a bowl of corn and a scoop of ice cream. If it wasn’t for the ice cream I would have thought she was being served prison food. This is ridiculous for the kind of money that is spent here for them to take care of loved ones. Staff seam to be really rude and very in helpful. The rooms are just BLAH at best. Things need to change around here. I do not recommend this place for anybody

Lucy, the Social Worker is the most unfriendly, non supportive, non sympathetic person you will ever meet! This job is not for her! To be in this business, patients and family should come first and she did not help with anything we asked her. She would laugh at comments and questions asked. It is very sad that she is placed in a facility like this!

Parkwood Healthcare is very cordial in allowing Mom to go there. They met all her needs in the rehab and helped us in the transition into assisted living. It is one-stop shopping, basically. Mom does the exercises, and they have bingo and readings. The meals are very good. The place is organized and clean, and there's a doctor on duty.

We moved my Dad to Parkwood six months ago. I had two friends from church had live at Parkwood and are very happy so I thought that was the best possible referral. The staff is always around, super helpful and friendly. You can be busy and social, or quiet and reclusive. Plenty of activities offered The choice is yours. Meals are good and take-home is available for those times when you have a conflicting appointment with lunch. This is an older facility, but it is well maintained and the residents love living there. Dad has acclimated well and is enjoying life at Parkwood.

My Mom was a resident of Parkwood Retirement Independent Living and is now a resident at Parkwood Healthcare Assisted Living. Additionally, she has had two medical rehab stays at Parkwood Healthcare. The Parkwood experience for my Mom and our family has been excellent. The staff is professional and caring and the facility is well maintained. We experienced another rehab facility and another assisted living facility in the past 18 months and we can tell you that Parkwood Healthcare is head and shoulders above the others. Nothing is perfect... But, the Parkwood Healthcare staff has always taken excellent care of my Mom.

My sister lives in Parkwood Healthcare Community. The food is good, and she’s got a very nice place. She has her own furniture, and she had it fixed really nicely. It is an older building, but it’s all been redone and up-to-date. It’s open, airy, and bright. The staff is nice.

We had lunch at Parkwood Healthcare, and they were very welcoming. The admissions director was very good -- the best one that we talked to -- and I really liked her a lot. I like the apartments, the facility, and that they have different types of care. Very pretty area where it’s located. They had planned activities like card playing, and it was of decent value.

My friend was able to get into Parkwood Healthcare Community with Medicare. It’s mainly the staff that makes it wonderful. They are right there when she needs them; all she has to do is push her button. They’re very busy, but they have so many people working there that they can cover everyone. She has therapy every day, which is wonderful because she needs it desperately. The rooms are very clean, and she has a TV in her one-room suite; someone is in another room, and they use the same bathroom. She’s able to see outside and enjoys looking outside. I’ve talked to her about the food, and she says it is wonderful. The admissions director was wonderful; my friend was at a rehab facility at that time and she saved my friend a room in a suite.

I visited this facility

Parkwood is an older assisted living facility. Even though it's old, it's very established. It had very high accolades from both people that have had their parents there and from a friend who is a doctor that runs a hospice company. So it was from a variety of sources that I derived these recommendations. The facility also has a nursing and rehab wing to it. I would recommend them. When my sister and I visited it, we were most impressed with the hands-on staff and its realistic price for the services given. Also the office staff and their head nurse were extremely helpful, cooperative and very patient with us. They worked very well with us and that's what impressed me the most. I didn't see any problem with the actual care part, but then again, we weren't there for a lengthy period of time. As for the facility, they really need to do some updating, e.g., putting on new carpets. Their laundry facilities were definitely very dated and small. We did see their rooms. They're older and a little bit worn-looking, but they were clean. They were more like studio-sized rooms. They did have a few bigger rooms but they're a little out of our price range so we didn't bother to look at them.

My mother with AD had rehab at Parkwood after partial hip replacement surgery. She was able to stay in the rehab wing but they do offer an Alzheimer's wing as well. I was very impressed and very pleased with the nursing/aid staff. The management seemed to have a passion for taking care of the elderly and showed me what all they were doing and continuing to do in order to take care of the residents. They took very good care of my mom while in rehab and in fact we took advantage of her stay and took a mini vacation knowing she was well taken care of so when we returned we were able to bring her back home. They were very organized in giving out their meds and anything extra meds that were needed. The aides were very patient with the residents even when you saw the residents get angry with them for the normal reasons that AD and dementia presents ( several had AD as well as it was apparent) They were prompt to come to her when she called ( tho she never remembered). I only wish they provided respite care as well as I would definitely place here there for a day or two at a time to get some rest from taking care of her. I would highly recommend them.
