My brother is at Trinity Hills of Knoxville and everything is going fine. The food is good. They have nice rooms. They're big and they have a kitchenette and wheelchair-accessible bathrooms. They have a game room, a library, a TV room, and whatever the people need. They have two or three patios and areas to sit in. The only thing is they need more and better-trained staff.

We have chosen Trinity Hills of Knoxville for my mother, and she's moving in on Tuesday. It's very clean, and it feels very homey. The room is very nice, it has laminate wood floors which kind of give us a homey feel. Very roomy, the bathroom very large, and has a nice walk-in shower with all the bars and everything for safety. It has a very large kitchen nook, with a microwave, small refrigerator, small size kitchen sink, and cabinets space, so lots of room and storage. The staff is so, so nice, everyone is very sweet, everyone always greets you, even if they don't know who we are, they're just all very inviting. We have not sampled the food, but I do know that they have a chef on-site and it's restaurant style. So they get to order off of the menu what they want to eat. There is some variety, then they have certain things that they always have, like soup and baked potatoes. They always have that. And then every day there are certain entrees they can choose from. It's a very nice dining area, even the lighting in there is pretty like they have chandeliers and things like that. So it makes it feel like home. They always have bingo. They have a grand piano in the great room and it's off of the dining room. And they have someone that comes and plays music while they eat. They have a fireplace that they can gather around. They have movie days, they have special speakers that come in, and they have a chapel there so they can have Sunday school and church. They can go on outings if they want, and they have a little shuttle that they can go on outings, and then just all kinds of activities constantly, whether it's crafts or things like that.

The atmosphere at Trinity Hills of Knoxville was more of a Christian-type. They're so accommodating with any problems and questions that we've had. It was very, very clean and easy to find your way around. It was within our price range, too. It's not very far from where the rest of the family lives in the area, so it would not be far from us when we go and visit.

My mom moved into Trinity Hills of Knoxville. It's more like a family. Everybody kind of helps everybody else, not just the staff, but also the people that are in it. It's excellent. Her room feels more like an apartment, because it has a kitchenette, kitchen cabinets on top and bottom, even though it only has a microwave, and a small fridge. It has a sink, which is nice. The activities are awesome. They do breakfast, two activities, lunch, and then two more activities, and then dinner. Sometimes they have church, once during the week, and on the weekends, but they also have the gospels in the morning, which is very important to us with Mom's faith. The weekends are a little bit more like that. They do breakfast, lunch, dinner, but they have bingo on Saturday and then they have Sunday school Bible study and worship on Sunday. She gets dessert for lunch and dinner. They offer sugar free. She's diabetic, so that's important and she loves it. We had a meal there and it was really good.

My aunt and my mother are now in Trinity Hills of Knoxville. Because of the COVID lockdown I haven't gotten to experience them that much, but I had been able to see the place and it was nice. The staff seemed really nice, but I haven't been able to visit my loved ones very often. My aunt and my mother have adjoining studios. One of the studios is their bedroom and the other is a sitting room. They have a small kitchen area and their own bathroom. It is newly remodeled and newly painted. It is a nice room. They also have activities, but my mother has Alzheimers and my aunt has Parkinson's, so they both have to be prompted. However, because of COVID they can only have so many people in each activity, so they haven't been participating that much. The food is not great, but it is adequate. We haven't really found anything bad about the place, but we haven't found anything wonderful either. The staff members that I have met have been really nice.

This is a nice sized community tucked in The Holston Hills area near multiple places like the library, post office, Kroger and pharmacies. The apartments are fine, and cleaned regularly. It is possible to create a cozy new home there in transition. The residents are friendly and supportive of each other. There are activities in crafts, music, games, readings, and some exercise, but they lost the original in house PT and exercise programs presented when we signed up. The facility has spaces for them. There is a nice library and generous lounges throughout with Tv available, plus a nice chapel for movies, chapel, citizens meetings, memorial services, and visiting entertainers. There are always volunteers coming to entertain, and the Chaplain is an incredible devoted man who actively loves everyone. Originally it was billed as a nondenominational spiritually based community, but it seems to have drifted more toward Christian, which is a missed opportunity. The staff are caring, but there is too much turnover in nursing. The memory unit needed a lot of improvement, and the new director was working on it. There is promise here and room to improve, but this is true everywhere. My biggest complaint was around medical communications, and the fact that many nurses seemed to be overworked and not well supported because of turnover. The people themselves were usually lovely, but they became burned out over time. This is also industry wide as a challenge. Food has room for improvement. Not enough fresh fruit and greens. Memory care unit is very understaffed, so people are under stimulated depending on who is working. That was being worked on, but too often the big TV was blaring often over stimulating for demented residents, and interfering with attempts to communicate. The alarm systems in the rooms need upgrading, and the rules about bed rails, and potential “restraint” are not supportive of safety, but this is a state law issue primarily. There was room for more creativity to keep people safe. Too many falls were happening and there should be an aggressive campaign to prevent falls with a positive focus, not a punitive tone. The best part was the heart and genuine love and caring here. The staff includes a group of folks from this community who are really called to serve here that make all the difference in the world. I hope they will get the funding to realize the potential there. The need is great.
