I am a friend or relative of a current/past resident

My mother has moved into Hickory Hills Alzheimer's Special Care Center. They're very in touch and personal with each resident. They keep them very active and treat them like family. They play games. They have old movies that they watch. They give them literature to read. The rooms are very good-sized, and they have restrooms in their rooms.

Provider Response

Hello! We want to thank you for leaving a positive review with us. Here at Hickory Hills, we strive to give our residents, family members, and staff excellent care. We hope to continue having positive experiences with you in the future.

I visited this facility

My husband will be moving into Hickory Hills Alzheimer's Special Care Center. The tour experience was very nice. We went through the whole building and outside (except the kitchen). The thing I liked most about it is that it was small. They only had 44 people there yesterday. It's very cozy. It's like being home almost. The staff was very well informed. She knew what she was talking about. The rooms were very cozy, very nice, and very clean. The whole place was very neat and clean. The dining area was very nice and had tables for four. There's a little TV room. I felt like it's a safe place. I felt like there's no way he could leave the building without them being aware that the door is open, so that was good. There wasn't anything I could say that I didn't like about it or the staff that I met.

We chose Hickory Hills in Hendersonville for my husband because it just seemed more appropriate for him. He's only been there a little while, but I'm very pleased with everything so far. The staff is great. As far as I know, the food is good, but I've not eaten there. It's very clean and nice. I haven't gone into his room, but the floor plans looked nice. This is all still new, but I am extremely pleased with the way they treat him and care for him. I know that at Christmas they did gingerbread houses. They do crosswords and they do games. The family is not involved in the activities.

I am a friend or relative of a current/past resident

My parents are in Hickory Hills Alzheimer’s Special Care Center. It's a secure memory care facility. It's open, airy, light, and very nice, and I immediately felt comfortable there. The staff is really good and seems to really care about the patients and dedicated to the facility. The other facilities that I visited were more clinical feeling and felt more inviting. The food appears pretty good, and their menus seem pretty varied. They do 3 meals a day plus snacks in between. They're very concerned about the patients not losing weight. They're very proactive in making sure that patients are getting enough to drink, staying hydrated and that they're eating good food. They have a fairly busy calendar of activities every day of the week. They encourage the residents to participate, but they do not mandate that they participate. Some of the activities are puzzles, games, crafts, and other activities that they invite families to participate such as meals or parties.

Provider Response

I am a friend or relative of a current/past resident

My friend is in Hickory Hills Alzheimer's Special Care Center. I love it. It's wonderful. The staff is great. They have a hair salon where she also gets her nails done, and they go on outings. The food is really good. She has her own room. There's a fireplace room, pet therapy, entertainment, live music, and bible study. They have a lot going on there. Everybody is very nice and very friendly. It's a beautiful facility, very clean, and nice.

They helped when we were in crisis. Louise was especially helpful. I wish they had more itactivities for higher functioning people. The food is good but my mom wishes she could say whether she mywants ketchup or not. They also need more outings as once a week doesn’t cut it for my mkm. She is a little stir crazy. My momma momalso doemoI’m like having a roommate but the cost for a private room is prohibitive for us. It is a beautiful place.

Provider Response

Thanks so much for your feedback. I'm so glad Louise and the team at Hickory Hills was available to help you when you needed the support for your loved one. Providing Meaningful Moments through our activity program is one of our top priorities. Please stop by and speak to our Administration at the community. We would love additional feedback on additional programs that your loved one may enjoy,

I am a friend or relative of a current/past resident

My wife has been a resident at Hickory Hills since Sept., 2017. This is our first experience with Memory Care so I checked the area thoroughly. It seems that every facility has a few "reviews" that don't get top marks. Some of that I have learned are from former employees with an ax to grind. But some are honest opinions of people whose perspective is very narrow. Alzheimer's is a very difficult field and some who need assisted living or independent living included would do better to look elsewhere. The name is Hickory Hills Alzheimer's Special Care Center; and, that is what they do; and, they do it very well. The rooms are modern, laid out in a square with one separate hallway. The residents can walk around the square under roof or go out into the center courtyard in nice weather. There are fully staffed nurses stations at both ends of the square. The staff from top to bottom legitimately gets to know your resident and cares about them (and trust me with some Alzheimer's residents including mine that's not easy). This includes administration, nurses, caregivers and maintenance, laundry and food service personnel. All of these folks know your resident, call them by name, and look after them. Activities vary from day to day; and, not all residents (including mine) participate fully. You do not want to make an Alzheimer's patient do something they don't want to do. June 21st was The Longest Day Alzheimer's national fund raising celebration; and, Hickory Hills was the Hendersonville focal point. Four hours of fun, games, horses from the Hendersonville Police mounted patrol, and food. The residents loved it all. I think I have said too much; but, I want everyone to know that I am not related to anyone at Hickory Hills except my wife who is a resident. This is a very tough job; and, they do it very well.

I visited this facility

Hickory Hills was really beautiful, newer, updated, and very pleasant. The rooms were very nice, beautiful, not very old, and not very big compared to other places but nicely sized. They had transportation when it's needed and activities all day long. The staff was very informative and very responsive to what we said our parents would need. They were great. The surroundings and the furnishings were pleasant. Everything was very nice and very comforting.

I visited this facility

Hickory Hills is new, only about a year old, and it's laid out nice. My problem is, it's very large. They have a personal trainer, the building's laid out in a great big circle, and they walk inside the building in this circle. They also have other social classes and they have full service for meals. The staff was trained to meet and greet you. The room they showed me was a little on the dark side. I think the facility has too many clients, but not enough staff.
