My parents moved in at Maristone of Franklin. It's very nice, very clean, and very laid out well. The amenities and apartments are very nice. You can't really do exercise in the garden, but they do have a place where they can do those things. There is a barbershop/salon that takes one person at a time and a nice dining area. Then they have a little kind of activity area upstairs. It looks like a really nice little pub, it has a nice little bar area, and a big TV, lots of seating where they can go up, and there's a balcony that overlooks the garden. They have activities every day, and they come around and let you know that the activities are going on. They have a little gathering area downstairs by the front where you can do visitation right now. During COVID they don't let you go back to their rooms. It's a little frustrating, but I understand.
I'm a little bit undecided about the staff. The director seems fine, but I'm undecided yet on the quality of the cleaning crew. They took my mother's meds the other day and they just set them on the counter and said, "Here, take this." They didn't give it to her and watch her take it, and that's basic nursing 101. She is a level one, a level of care when you're asked to ensure the patients are taking their medications and you watch them take the medication. I was a little frustrated with that. I don't think that the laundry and the apartment are getting cleaned weekly, like they're supposed to, so continue to be frustrated with that.
My parents went in at literally the worse time in human history to be in a new living environment, so they were not given the same orientation that patients would normally get. They did not feel welcomed. They didn't feel like there was anything to do that's not like they're in a prison. I had to speak with the staff about that, have them go and do that orientation, welcome them, talk to them about the things that they can do, and encourage them to get outside their rooms, which they are now doing, but not without a nudge. My parents are not very good about personal hygiene and they're just so old. It's frustrating, and I've asked them to kind of be a little more direct in pushing that they do those types of things, like shower every day, and they're not doing that. The staff is not pushing them to do that, so I think that they could be a little more direct in their care; more than I'm seeing. I think we've got the food squared away, they've done it really well. My mom was not happy at first, but that was because of, I think, other things going on there, so the food seems really good.
