I am a friend or relative of a current/past resident

My mom is in the memory care of Dow Rummel Village. She started in an apartment in the assisted living area, which was a nice size with a bedroom and a bathroom, a little living area, and a kitchen area. And then after about a year, she was moved into the memory care unit, which is a little smaller. And the reason they do that is that they kind of forget where they're going and how to get around in a bigger room. So, she has a smaller room, but it's perfect for her. She's got a bathroom, an area for her couch and a TV, and then her bed. And the care is excellent. They've all been very, very good with her and she likes it there a lot. They have a big swimming pool. They do activities with them every day with like, exercise-type things. They have a nice exercise room. They have a community there where they have restaurants. You can go and sit at restaurants and eat with your loved ones if you want to. They have outdoor seating areas. People do their hair for them. The swimming pool and the workout area stuff are in the whole middle of the area. It's not in the market. So when we go to the memory care unit, that's all in the lockdown area. But they do exercises with them there. They have exercise activity time and they have a church there. They take them to church, they have a music area, they have concerts and stuff. They say my mom is very competitive.

My mother will be moving into Dow Rummel Village. They had the right program for my mom and it will fit all of her needs. It's a very well-kept, nice-looking facility and has an incredible number of amenities. The staff was very knowledgeable, very caring, and very thorough.

I visited this facility

We looked at both assisted living and independent living in Dow Rummel Village. There's also one type they call Flex, it's in between where if you need more care, you can add that on like if the person needs help with meds. That's paid, I think, by the month so then you end up with a monthly total. As their client's age and they need more care, they just start to add on like if they need laundry services and so on. I kind of like that instead of having just one set fee and you go from assisted living to needing lots of health care, it jumps up a lot of money. This way you can add it incrementally. I think that's a good marketing device, that's good for the people. The staff members were wonderful people. They just took the time to listen to my parent's needs. My mother is very hard of hearing and the woman that helped us was very polite. We're just really happy with the staff that we met there. They have anything from 2-bedrooms to studios, and we looked at three different rooms. They're all very, very clean and well laid out. I thought they were very well thought out. They have a large pool, a workshop, and an art studio. They have a Main Street store, it's the main hallway that they call The Main Street. They have a very large dining room and a deli. Each floor has a little coffee shop on it with snacks and items. They have a very large meeting room that would be suitable for family get-togethers. It has a baby grand piano, a fireplace and is just really decorated nicely. The person that led the tour told us there were 40 items on the menu so it sounds like they have a pretty wide array of food. The deli is soup and salad, I believe, and fruits and things like that. We visited three different places and this one was the nicest.

I just moved my aunt at Dow Rummel in Sioux Falls. I was able to virtually tour it and we chose the place because they have an onsite physician so all her care could happen right there. They also have a lot of things for their memory care residents to do. It's practically a brand-new facility, so it's really nice. They have a swimming pool and a hot tub, and they have therapy that they can offer to their residents there. It's also very homey and comfortable, and they have this little nook for the residents to stop by. It's kind of a five and dime store. They have cereal boxes and things on the shelves, and if they want to go shopping they can do that. They have a controlled courtyard, so like a garden area with heated sidewalks underneath so they could still walk out on cooler months and to make sure there's no ice on the ground. They just have a really nice place and the whole unit is set up in a circle so there's no getting lost and they can just kind of walk laps. It seems like a very good place for her to go. She has a full-size bed and a side table. It's kind of like a studio apartment so there's not a full kitchen, of course, because it's the memory care, but there is a little dormroom size fridge so they can keep snacks or water and whatever they need. They have a little kitchenette. The bathroom is huge, it's big enough for wheelchair access if they need it. We didn't need to bring towels because those are provided. They have a way of emptying garbage and replacing things like toilet paper and paper towels from the outside of the room to her closet, which is really kind of cool. They have access to what they call a spa, they have one room where they have a walk-in tub, those tubs that you can walk-in and they seal them up and close them. She was very excited about them. The staff seemed really nice. They all came down and introduced themselves while we were moving her in. They seemed welcoming. What I like the most is the fact that it was very clean. They have housekeeping that goes into the rooms every day. They do the laundry and they're just everywhere, so the place didn't have that weird smell like how some places have because they're not well kept. It just felt like home. It's a big community and it's comfortable. I really can't say about the food though, but she said it's good and that they have cupcakes and ice cream in the afternoons, so she's really excited about that.

Let me start by saying, I am not one to post unflattering things about businesses. I realize not everyone has the same experience. My mother-in-law has lived here for about 6 years now. Its definitely an adjustment. We eat brunch with her every Sunday. They have a restaurant on site called Covells. The food for the most part is decent, but the food this Christmas was absolutely horrifying. Sunday brunches are so much better. My complaint is I've never in my life, with any restaurant been literally sick to my stomach. PLEASE NOTE, CHRISTMAS Dinner should be at utmost concern. Many of the residents can not go anywhere else. I'm so disappointed in that ugh lunch.

Dow Rummel Village was good and had a good living atmosphere. The workers seemed to be all good. I think it's a good, clean, and a safe environment. The activities are fine and it would be a good place to live.

My mom and brother live in Dow Rummel Independent Living. I was there yesterday for a visit and had such a wonderful time with them. Every staff member call them by name, residents visit with us when we walk by. Dinner at Covell's was wonderful. The facility is spotless! They truly love living there and that is so heartwarming for all of their family! I read the calendar and I am always so impressed with the monthly activities that are available for the residents. For October they have a "homecoming" week & how fun this will be! I will be coming to Sioux Falls for the Fall Festival after seeing this.

There are a lot of very active people at Dow Rummel Village. You can go from independent to assisted down to nursing home. The place is very clean. They have nurses in the facility. The staff is very friendly and helpful.

Overall, the place is the best in the city. As far as the grounds, overall it's gorgeous. Dow Rummel Village is like a city in itself. There is a mall, a deli, and two swimming pools. They have very sweet people. It looked like the patients that I saw in assisted living were very happy. It is a beautiful and fabulous place. They had many people on the waiting list, so my mother-in-law would never have gotten in there. She had no choice since she had to go somewhere. It's a beautiful place, and that's where I'd go.

My wife was a resident of the Memory Care Unit for three and a half years. I have nothing but praise for the care she received. The staff was caring, compassionate and well qualified. Her room and the care center was clean, bright and comfortable. In three and half years I never left there worried or apprehensive. I always knew she was in good hands getting the best of care.

Dow Rummel Village is a wonderful place. The staff were wonderful, accommodating, and very pleasant. They showed us around the facility and we were very impressed with what we saw. They try to help us in any way they could. Everything they have is ideal. The place is probably a little expensive due to the fact that they do have everything right there.

I am/was a resident of this facility

Dow Rummel was a comfortable place and felt like home. Several years ago my mother wanted to move back here to South Dakota and I was looking for a place and I found Dow Rummel. However, she wanted to stay in California where it's warmer. Later on, my sister in-law lived here and she was kind of an influence to have us move here also. I've been in 4 different locations due to health and life issues. I have experienced different areas in this complex. I have enjoyed their company, their care and their concern of my well being. I am happy to be here. I am currently living in an apartment here in Dow Rummel. I had it downsized a little because I needed to be in an assisted living. We started with 2 bedrooms because my husband was still living at that time. When he passed away, I didn't need it anymore so I moved to a one bedroom apartment with a den. From there I moved into assisted living where I get more care than I had in independent living. It's kind of a big room with a bedroom and a bathroom. It has a kitchen and a living room combined. It's a sufficient room for me. The food here is good. They serve good servings and a variety of dishes. The staff are very kind and caring. They feel like family and we feel like a family to them. That's the kind of atmosphere that we have here.

I am/was a resident of this facility

I read about Dow Rummel on a paper and they were having an open house so I just drove out and visited the facility. My husband was with me and I wanted to look at some of the apartments. He said he doesn't think he wants an apartment. The personnel who gave us the tour said they have a cottage so we went to see it and he just loved it right away. So that's where we lived for a while which is still part of Dow Rummel. When he passed away everyone wanted me to come out of the cottage and have an apartment so I won't be isolated. So then I came up here and took an apartment and I've been here ever since. It has been 8 years now so It's been a really nice experience. During my stay here, I've had 2 different apartments. At first, I had the 2 bedroom, 2 bath apartment and I have some friends and relatives come over which was nice. After a couple of years, I really didn't need all that room. I happened to be hospitalized and while I was there my kids found this apartment where I am in right now. It's small but it's very homey looking. It looks out for you to see the front gate and I see the people moving about outside which I really like. I wanted the apartment to be painted in yellow and they did. It's very homey. I'm not a very picky eater. I have told them that I only like to have small portions and they have followed my request. I'm very satisfied. The staff are perfectly wonderful. They are so nice and so caring. I'm 90 years old now and I just feel right at home here. People are so nice. I couldn't be happier.

I visited this facility

I visited Dow Rummel with my grandma as she was looking into assisted living facilities. The outside appearance of the facility was excellent. The interior area were very well-designed and well-lit. The thing I noticed the most was how friendly the staff was. Almost every one we saw on our tour greeted us and smiled. They all seemed happy to be at work, unlike the staff at other places we had seen. This facility offers their residents pretty much everything they need on-site. They don't have too much of a need to have to venture out shopping on their own it looks like. The food the residents were eating looked and smelled good. I had an overall very positive impression of this place. From the schedule we saw and through talking to residents, it sounds like they offer the residents a wide range of activities and opportunities. I think that is awesome. The only factor that held my grandma back from living here was the monthly cost. It was just more than she was able to afford.
