Gloria Dei Estates

I'm in Gloria Dei Estates, and Gloria Dei has several locations. Some of them have independent living, assisted living, and memory care on one campus. Ours is just the independent living. They have activities here and luncheons. I would recommend it. It's a nice and safe place. The staff is excellent, particularly their maintenance men. They're just really helpful, kind, and polite. We don't have food in here, but we have kitchens. One of the reasons that we moved in here was because a lot of the places that we were looking at were charging almost $4000 a month, plus extra money for the second person. When we moved in here, there's a buy-in; but if you're here more than five years and then you leave, you get two-thirds of that back. The monthly rent right now is like $1225 a month. It's an older building, but the cleanliness is good. The layout is good. They have aerobics, Bible studies, and game night. Tuesday night is Bingo. On the last Friday of the month, they have a DJ come in for a couple hours from 7:00 to 9:00 with dancing. They have movies on Thursday.

I went to Gloria Dei Estates and they were very warm and very social. The apartments were roomy and there's a small entry fee that I could pay. I also talked to some of the residents, and they had a good experience living there. They said there are a lot of activities, outings, and events going on, and they seemed happy. They were just in the process of upgrading the community room and they couldn't do any trips or any events because of COVID, but as I looked at the calendar of events, I believe they looked pretty good to me.

They have activities at Gloria Dei (The Estates), and everyone seems friendly. Mainly, it is a place that we could afford. They have an outside courtyard with trees, and they can have a group there with barbecue. They also have gardens for the residents to grow stuff in. The staff seemed very affectionate and friendly.

I liked the apartments at Gloria Dei very, very much. It was very roomy, and the place was nice, but the thing that I objected to was the entrance fee because I don't understand why you pay an entrance fee whereas in ordinary apartments you don't, and you don't get any meals. In fact, management doesn't provide anything. They don't provide meals, and they don't provide entertainment; they don't provide anything. The residents are the ones who volunteer and get together to do things because management doesn't, so I kind of didn't like that.

My parents were past residents of The Estates. The environment of this place was very nice. There were quite a few people that lived there. Regarding the staff, they didn't actually come in and do anything. What they had was an emergency call system wherein residents can pull a "thing" for an emergency and somebody would come in and help them with anything. But my parents never used that. At that time, my parents had a very nice two-bedroom-two-bath apartment. They also had a small kitchen in their apartment. Regarding activities, I like that they had a big room where people would go and play games. They would have Wii bowling, bingo, pinochle, card games, and all kinds of things. They could even have parties there too. I would say their activities were the best feature with this facility.
